Abstract: Oxalanilides of formula I ##STR1## in which R is C.sub.6-22 alkyl or C.sub.6-22 alkoxyR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently, hydrogen, C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.1-12 alkoxy, C.sub.1-12 alkylthio, phenoxy or phenylthio; provided that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may not both be selected from alkylthio, phenoxy and phenylthio;and R.sub.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-8 alkylcertain of which are novel, are useful as UV-stabilizers in organic polymers and organic polymer-containing coatings, particularly automotive finishes. The compounds have low volatility and excellent solubility in organic solvents such as are used in liquid finishes.
