Abstract: Provided is a biomarker capable of specifically diagnosing acute kidney injury. An acute kidney injury-specific biomarker is a miRNA that is primarily present in the blood. The miRNA is miRNA-5100. Furthermore, miRNA-5100 can be used as a method for diagnosing acute kidney injury. In this diagnosis, when the expression of miRNA-5100 is decreased in the blood, it is diagnosed as acute kidney injury. As an acute kidney injury test kit, it is also possible to include a reagent for measuring miRNA-5100.

Abstract: A method for predicting formation permeability by measuring diffusional tortuosity in several directions by pulse gradient NMR. The method comprises evaluating an anisotropic diffusion coefficient by pulsed gradient NMR, determining diffusional tortuosity from the restricted diffusion data, supplementing the NMR results with resistivity and sonic logging data, measuring anisotropic tortuosity and porosity by resistivity and sonic data and combining all components in a single fitting model. The 11-coefficient model is trained to recognize the true values of permeability by comparing the real oil permeabilities measured in a library of oil-carrying rock cores with the NMR, resistivity and sonic correlates. The fitting coefficients are extracted by minimizing the discrepancy between the laboratory measured permeabilities and the predicted values combining all rapid logging information components with the agreement-maximizing weights.

Abstract: A nanostructured cross-wire memory architecture is provided that can interface with conventional semiconductor technologies and be electrically accessed and read. The architecture links lower and upper sets of generally parallel nanowires oriented crosswise, with a memory element that has a characteristic conductance. Each nanowire end is attached to an electrode. Conductance of the linkages in the gap between the wires encodes the information. The nanowires may be highly-conductive, self-assembled, nucleic acid-based nanowires enhanced with dopants including metal ions, carbon, metal nanoparticles and intercalators. Conductance of the memory elements can be controlled by sequence, length, conformation, doping, and number of pathways between nanowires. A diode can also be connected in series with each of the memory elements. Linkers may also be redox or electroactive switching molecules or nanoparticles where the charge state changes the resistance of the memory element.

Abstract: A method for use in light-sheet imaging of an object through a scattering medium comprises illuminating the object through the scattering medium with incident electromagnetic radiation propagating along an illumination axis so that the incident electromagnetic radiation interacts with the object to cause the object to generate and emit electromagnetic radiation. The incident electromagnetic radiation is formed by spectrally dispersing initial electromagnetic radiation in a direction transverse to the illumination axis so as to form spectrally dispersed electromagnetic radiation and by spatially focusing the spectrally dispersed electromagnetic radiation through the scattering medium to the object. The method comprises forming an image of at least a portion of the emitted electromagnetic radiation propagating along a detection axis, wherein the detection axis and the illumination axis are non-collinear, and sensing the formed image.
