  • Patent number: 7506438
Abstract: A low profile integrated module is fabricated to include sheets of material, such as ceramic or PCB, fixed together and including a via extending through at least one of the plurality of sheets from the lower module surface partially to the upper module surface and in a side module surface. The via is filled with conductive material. The module is then mounted on a supporting substrate having a solder pad on the mounting surface with an area greater than the lower surface of the via. The lower surface of the via is positioned adjacent the upper surface of the mounting pad and soldered so that solder wicks up the via along the side module surface.

  • Patent number: 7503112
Abstract: Methods of manufacturing lead frame connectors for use in connecting optical sub-assemblies to printed circuit boards in optical transceiver modules are disclosed. The lead frame connectors are formed by first stamping a selected configuration of conductors in a conductive ribbon. Each of the conductors can then be secured in a fixed position with respect to each other. A casing having a first part and a second part can then be molded about the conductors such that each of the conductors forms an electrical contact restrained in a fixed position with respect to the first part and a contact point extending from the second part. The conductors can be bent into any desired position to allow the electrical contacts to be connected to the optical sub assembly and the contact points to be connected to the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 7500308
Abstract: A printed circuit board unit includes an insulated film disposed between a printed circuit board and an electronic component so as to define a through hole. The through hole may be designed to form a constriction in a solder bump. The solder bump is received on an input/output pad located on the printed circuit board. When the electronic component is detached from the printed circuit board, the insulated film is slid along the surface of the printed circuit board while the solder bump is kept at a melting temperature. The sliding movement of the insulated film serves to completely wipe out the melted solder bump from the input/output pad. When the electronic component is thereafter lifted up, the electronic component holding the solder bump can be detached from the printed circuit board. The solder hardly remains on the input/output pad.

  • Patent number: 7500307
Abstract: A high-speed process includes removing chips or interposers from a carrier web having a first pitch and transferring the chips or interposers to electrical components, such as RFID antenna structures, on a moving web having a second pitch. According to one method, a transfer drum transfers chips or interposers to a moving web of electrical components by picking a chip when the transfer drum is stationary, and transferring the chip to the moving web when the transfer drum is rotating such that a tangential velocity of the transfer drum is substantially equal to the linear velocity of the moving web. According to another method, a primary drum removes chips or interposers from a carrier web having a first pitch, and transfers the chips or interposers to a variably rotating secondary drum which then places the chips or interposers onto an electrical component on a moving web having a second pitch.

  • Patent number: 7497004
Abstract: A method of making UHF antennas for security tag and antennas thereby. A web of electrically conductive material having a thickness in the range of approximately 5 to approximately 50 microns is releasably secured to a carrier web using a releasably securable adhesive substantially coextensive with the conductive web. A series of antennas of a desired shape are die-cut into the conductive web, but not into the carrier web. The portion of the conductive web not making up the antennas is in the form of scrap and is removed, thereby leaving the series of antennas releasably secured to the carrier sheet. The antennas are arranged to be removed from the carrier sheet, whereupon the releasably securable adhesive is transferred to them, so that they may be subsequently secured to other components to form a security tag.

  • Patent number: 7490400
Abstract: A wire-processing device has a swivel-arm with gripper and open gripper-jaws and is able to thread a wire into a guide-tube arranged on a holder of the gripper and which serves as feeder to feed wire-ends to processing stations. The swivel-arm with the gripper is swiveled with reduced torque from a neutral position toward a wire-guide that functions as a threading aid, a pipe of the gripper actuating the wire-guide from a rest position to a working position. To allow threading of the wire into the guide-tube, the wire-guide bridges a distance between the pipe and the holder. After threading, the swivel-arm swivels back into the neutral position, the gripper-jaws being thereby closed, and the wire-guide is returned to the rest position by a tension spring.

  • Patent number: 7461444
Abstract: Antennas are fabricated using fabric substrates, and, in some embodiments, known stitching techniques to fabricate the conductive members required, including connecting wiring and radiating and/or receiving elements. In one embodiment, one or more “patch antennas”, that is, planar radiating and/or receiving elements, are connected to transmitting and/or receiving electronics by means of a connector and feed line structure. The antenna structure comprises multiple layers of fabric, some of which may contain patch antenna and/or feedline patterns made of conductive fabric, made by embroidery using conductive thread or yarn, or onto which patch antennas may be bonded. A ground plane layer may be fabricated similarly. Between the fabric layers containing the conductive patterns, there are one or more layers of insulating fabrics that separate the conductive fabric layers by a dielectric layer. Additional sheets of adhesive between the fabric layers may be used to attach the fabric layers.

  • Patent number: 7461443
Abstract: An inner sleeve, having threads on each end, is formed on a motor or generator rotor. A pair of stub shafts are threadably attached to the inner sleeve at each end and a magnet is placed in between. The stub shafts are turned on the inner sleeve to bring them together, thereby creating an axial compressive force on the magnet. By keeping the magnet in a compressive state at all times, cracking of the magnet is prevented, thus keeping the rotor stable during use of the motor or generator. An outer sleeve is shrunk-fit around the magnet and stub shafts to provide a further radial force on the rotor. The magnet assembly of the present invention also enlarges the required radial shrink-fit tolerance of the outer sleeve on the magnet, thereby reducing costs conventionally required to match the outer sleeve to the magnet within close tolerances.
