  • Publication number: 20140360689
Abstract: In a method of making a superamphiphobic paper, a fibrous pulp is refined in water to generate fibrils of an average diameter. The water is drained from the fibrils through a mesh. A less polar than water liquid is added to the fibrils, thereby suspending the fibrils therein so as to inhibit agglomeration between the fibrils. The less polar than water liquid and any remaining water are drained from the fibrils. The fibrils are pressed and dried so as to form the paper in which the fibrils have an average spacing. Amorphous phase cellulose is removed from the paper. A predetermined compound is deposited onto a selected surface of the paper. The average diameter and average spacing are chosen so that the paper is phobic to the first liquid.

  • Publication number: 20140345816
Abstract: The invention provides a method of controlling retention on a forming fabric in a paper making process, an intermediate product for use in the method, as well as use of material for the intermediate product. For making the intermediate product at least one paper making chemical is added to a slurry of fine cellulose fibres such as micro fibrillated cellulose (MFC), the specific surface area of those fibres being larger than that of the fibres of the main fibrous suspension for paper making, causing the paper making chemical being adsorbed on the fine cellulose fibres. This intermediate product is then incorporated in the main fibrous suspension before the suspension is supplied from the paper machine head box to the forming fabric. Other paper making chemicals may be added to the fibrous suspension before or after addition of the intermediate product, so that interactions between different chemicals are prevented.

The temperature change composition, for instance, can contain one or more phase change agents that undergo a phase change at slightly elevated temperatures. The phase change agents, in one embodiment, can have a relatively high heat of fusion. When undergoing a phase change, the phase change agents absorb heat and thereby provide a cooling feeling to the skin of a user. The hydrophilic lotion composition may contain a carrier and a thermo-reversible gelling agent. The hydrophilic lotion composition maintains the temperature change composition within the tissue and helps to prevent skin irritation.

Abstract: Biomass (e.g., plant biomass, animal biomass, and municipal waste biomass) is processed to produce useful products, such as fuels. For example, systems are described that can use feedstock materials, such as cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic materials, to produce ethanol and/or butanol, e.g., by fermentation.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for controlling deposits in a paper making process, more particularly to a process comprising the use of talc for controlling deposits in a paper making process with talc. One aspect of the invention is contacting talc with a white water stream at one or more locations within the paper making process after separating pulp from a pulp-containing stream and before introducing the re-circulating the white water stream to one or more of a pulper, a thick-stock, a thin-stock, a dilution process, a shower, a storage vessel, a blending process, and a digestor.

Abstract: The object of the process of the invention is to increase the retention of starch in the sheet of paper in order to reduce operating costs and increase the physical characteristics of the paper. To that end, it has been envisaged that trivalent cationic salts are added, metered into the slurry or in the process for obtaining starch in powder form or by mixing a percentage of trivalent salts in powder form with the starch in powder form, seeking the solution of said salts in the slurry, so that they dissolve during the dispersion of the slurry in the process for obtaining the sheet of paper. Organic polymers such as polyacrylamides, polyvinylamides and polydadmacs could optionally be applied in addition to said salts.

Abstract: A lignocellulosic fibrous composite having one or more solvents and a dried lignocellulosic fiber, wherein the dried lignocellulosic fiber has been processed by ruminant digestion and anaerobic digestion. A method for preparing a lignocellulosic fibrous composite is also disclosed including the steps of providing excrement from an animal which has undergone ruminant digestion, introducing the cow excrement into an anaerobic digester, modifying the cow excrement to a first wet product, and drying the first wet product to, in turn, generate a lignocellulosic fibrous composite.

Abstract: Methods of producing cellulosic or lignocellulosic materials for use in papermaking include treating a cellulosic or lignocellulosic dry feedstock having a first average molecular weight with ionizing radiation, and controlling the dose of ionizing radiation such that the average molecular weight of the feedstock is reduced to a predetermined level. A method of producing an irradiated paper product includes treating a paper product including a first carbohydrate-containing material having a first molecular weight with ionizing radiation, and controlling the dose of ionizing radiation so as to provide an irradiated paper product with a second carbohydrate-containing material having a second molecular weight higher than the first molecular weight. Pulp and paper products are produced.

  • Patent number: 8834678
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a tissue product having a creping composition disposed onto at least one surface thereof to increase the softness of the article, while retaining or improving manufacturing efficiency. The tissue products also have a sizing agent that increases the Wet Out time, without negatively impacting softness or machine runability. Preferably the creping composition comprises a cationic component and a film forming component, both of which are preferably water soluble. The cationic component carries a cationic charge that is capable of forming ionic bonds with the negatively charged fibers of the tissue web, thus providing a retention mechanism by which the creping composition is retained on the sheet. The overall retention of the creping composition on the sheet reduces the concentration of the composition in the machine process water, improving machine operability and runability.
