Apparatus Patents (Class 162/232)
  • Patent number: 5346590
Abstract: A dryer screen in a paper machine has two superimposed connected gauze structures. It has a surface gauze layer an a bottom gauze layer, each having respective weft threads (1, 3) and warp threads (2, 4). In the dryer screen, the warp threads (2, 4) are similar in both the surface and bottom gauze layers, and they are similar in cross-section. The warp threads (4) of the bottom gauze layer pass at suitable intervals over the weft threads (1) of the surface gauze layer to bond the bottom and surface gauze layer together. The cross-sectional area and shape of the weft threads of the bottom gauze are selected so that the respective actual lengths of the warp threads (2, 4) of the surface gauze layer are equal to the corresponding threads of the bottom gauze layer.

  • Patent number: 5021125
Abstract: A hydraulic accumulator prevents oil with gas entrained in it from exiting the accumulator. The accumulator comprises a completely static structure which provides laminar flow of oil from a gas pad to the accumulator outlet. The laminar flow is preferably provided by a plurality of tubes disposed between the gas pad and the outlet, each tube having a substantially greater length than the largest cross-sectional dimension. The tubes are preferably rigid and circular in cross-section, and the passageways defined between the tubes also have a substantially greater length than the largest cross-sectional dimension. The accumulator can either be a low pressure accumulator or a high pressure accumulator. With a high pressure accumulator it is desirable to provide a float switch or like sensor to ensure that the tubes within a tube bundle are always fully immersed in oil.

  • Patent number: 4746404
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for effecting prestreaming and deaeration of wood chips, or like comminuted cellulosic fibrous material. Presteaming takes place in a vertical presteaming vessel, utilizing a plurality of uniformly radially spaced nozzles adjacent the bottom of the vessel, a plurality of generally uniformly radially spaced steam introduction pipes in a central portion of the vessel, and a pair of synchronized rotating valves for feeding steam to the introduction nozzles and pipes in a coordinated manner. After presteaming, the chips pass through a chips meter to a vertical chute in which they are entrained in liquid, and then pass to a horizontal deaerating vessel. In the deaerating vessel, deaerated liquid is passed in a path generally perpendicular to the path of the material flowing through the deaeration vessel.

  • Patent number: 4606792
Abstract: An endless sieve band or composite band for paper machines and the like, has a plurality of helixes composed of an elastic wire and each having two opposite winding legs and also two head curves connecting the winding legs with one another and having a predetermined wire diameter and wire width, wherein the helixes are arranged so that when the head curve of one of two neighboring helixes is inserted into an intermediate space of another of the two neighboring helixes an overlapping region is formed into which an insertion wire is introduced, and the winding legs of each of the helixes include a supporting winding leg which has flat supporting sufaces with a width exceeding the wire diameter or the wire width of the head curves.

  • Patent number: 4582568
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating a pulp suspension in the manufacture of paper employing a controlled drainage thickener and a screw type pulp press. Pulp is fed into the thickener where the feed screw contained therein delivers it to a vertical discharge column. A screw type conveyor delivers the pulp suspension from the vertical discharge column into a vertical inlet column associated with a screw type pulp press. A sensing means is provided to measure the consistency of the pulp entering the press, and a sensing means provides a control signal which is arranged to modulate operation of a discharge valve on the thickener to keep the consistency of the pulp entering the screw type pulp press within a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 4491503
Abstract: A threading system for threading a lead end of a web along a processing path in a papermaking machine includes an endless looped belt having a fabric base and a soft elastomeric outer surface with a transversely extending gripping slot in the surface. The slot has a round at the base and the sides of the slot are pinched together when the carrier belt extends along a straightline and with the sides separating when the carrier belt is wrapped over a roll so that the lead end of a web can be gripped in the slot for threading a web and automatically released when the sides of the slot are separated as the belt is wrapped over a roll.

  • Patent number: 4395308
Abstract: A dryer felt comprising a plurality of spiral coils disposed in a common plane and arranged in a side-by-side relationship with adjacent coils being intermeshed and joined together in a hinged relationship by a hinge yarn of non-circular cross section. During manufacture, the fabric is subjected to a heat treatment under controlled tension to cause the spiral coils, which are normally circular or oval in cross section, to assume the shape of the non-circular stuffer yarns which are typically of elliptical, D-shape, dog bone or two or more rectangular circular cross section yarns with the long side of the stuffer yarn lying in the plane of the fabric. In this way, the air voids within the fabric are substantially filled by the hinge yarns to reduce permeability, while the flattened spiral coils provide smooth paper-receiving and machine roll contacting surfaces on the resultant dryer felt.
