  • Patent number: 4317271
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making metal tubes (12) by centrifugally casting muffs (12) in a rotating mold (10), the inner diameter of which is tapered, having a smaller diameter at the pouring end (14) and a larger diameter at the non-pouring end. The outer diameter of the resulting muff is then machined (30) to form a cylindrical member of uniform diameter along its entire length. The inner diameter is also machined (28) smooth, and the finished muff is then reduced (32,34) in diameter and wall thickness to make a long tube (12).

  • Patent number: 4211269
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of casting metal in a rotary mould or die under the protection of an inertizing atmosphere formed by a liquefied gas. In the mould or die, successive casting operations are performed with different metals while maintaining an infeed of liquefied gas during each of these casting operations and while the metal involved is solidifying, until an end product is obtained which is formed from a plurality of layers of different metals. The invention is applicable in particular, but not exclusively, to the production of centrifugally cast tubes and rolling-mill rolls.

  • Patent number: 4157111
Abstract: A method of heat-treating and, particularly, annealing, a ductile cast iron pipe in the form as centrifugally held against the wall of a centrifugal casting mold. The casting within the mold is heat-treated by introducing a hot gas of elevated temperature into the hollow of the casting. At the initial stage, the casting within the mold is in red-hot condition and, therefore, introduction of the hot gas into the hollow of the casting results in control of the dissipitation of heat energies from the red-hot casting to delay or slow down a cooling rate of the casting.

  • Patent number: 4129002
Abstract: A pile driving ram for driving piles into subaqueous ground, during which a heavy piston operating as a hammer is each time lifted by fuel explosion in a cylinder, comprises a considerable and expensive cylinder piece, which has inlet and outlet ports and which comprises at least two guide girdles for supporting guide members co-operating with at least one guide stay of a guide frame. In order to increase the lifetime of the cylinder piece, the core is moulded from precious steel according to the fling moulding method.

  • Patent number: 4113002
Abstract: A chill preventing arrangement is used in a metal mold employed in centrifugal casting. The metal mold is provided, at its spigot portion, with an end plate which has a central opening smaller in diameter than the internal diameter of the metal mold main body and which includes a metallic base plate, an intermediate layer of metallic alloy formed by flame or plasma spraying on a surface of the metallic base plate contacting the molten metal for casting, and a coating of ceramic material more than 0.7 mm thick formed on the intermediate layer by flame or plasma spraying for preventing chill formation at the corresponding end portions of tubular castings.

  • Patent number: 4073336
Abstract: A centrifugal casting machine comprising a support means having a housing pivotally mounted thereon about a horizontal axis to permit the housing to be tilted relative to the support means. A mold member is rotatably mounted within the housing and has a drive shaft connected thereto extending through the rearward side of the housing for connection to a power means such as an electric motor. The power shaft is provided with a bore extending therethrough to permit argon gas or the like to be furnished to the interior of the mold member to reduce the oxidation or the like to be furnished to the interior of the mold member to reduce the oxidation of the aluminum casting material. The casting material support stand is positioned forwardly of the housing and has a casting material hopper selectively vertically mounted thereon for supplying the casting material to the interior of the housing and mold member.

  • Patent number: 3978911
Abstract: A tilting centrifugal casting machine for producing a compound solid roll by centrifugally casting the outer shell and inner layer into an integral structure. The angle of inclination of the axis of rotation of the mold and the angle defined by the line connecting the center of the mold and the center of the rollers relative to the horizontal are selected to be within the optimum ranges, thereby to obtain a tilting type of centrifugal casting machine with high anti-vibration effect and safety in use, capable of producing a defect-free superior compound solid roll.
