Abstract: Technologies are described herein for styptic compounds comprising a hemostatic or styptic agent suspended within a hydrophobic carrier medium. Example carrier mediums may include waxes, lipids, oils, or combinations thereof. The compound may be a semisolid at room temperature and soft enough to be easily dispensed and formed into or onto bleeding tissue of an animal or human. The hydrophobic qualities of the carrier medium can protect the styptic agent from absorbing moisture. The carrier medium can mechanically support positioning treatments adjacent to the bleeding tissue. The carrier medium can further serve to mechanically seal the tissue to aid in hemostasis while also protecting the tissue from debris and contamination. The carrier medium can aid in maintaining moisture within the tissue. Slurry-based manufacturing processes can support a substantially homogeneous dispersal of styptic agent throughout the carrier medium.

A molding tool used in the method includes at least one die having a cavity defined in a surface thereof, and a protrusion formed in the cavity. The method includes disposing a shape memory polymer insert on the protrusion, where the shape memory polymer insert has i) the die-locked geometry as its temporary shape, and ii) a geometry that is removable from the die-locked geometry as its permanent shape. A material is established in the cavity such that at least a portion of the material conforms to the die-locked geometry, thereby forming the part having the feature with the at least one die-locked geometry.

Abstract: Process and systems for molding or forming products from thermosetting plastics. The system utilizes a deformable container that is placed within the cavity of the housing of the mold with the resins and initiator mixed therein. As a piston slides into the cavity, the upper edges of the container engage between the housing and the piston to seal the housing form leakage. The pressure of the piston along with heat on the housing enable the curing process to be controlled to minimize shrinkage and porosity.

Abstract: A method of pressure forming a brown part from metal and/or ceramic particle feedstocks includes: introducing into a mold cavity or extruder a first feedstock and one or more additional feedstocks or a green or brown state insert made from a feedstock, wherein the different feedstocks correspond to the different portions of the part; pressurizing the mold cavity or extruder to produce a preform having a plurality of portions corresponding to the first and one or more additional feedstocks, and debinding the preform. Micro voids and interstitial paths from the interior of the preform part to the exterior allow the escape of decomposing or subliming backbone component substantially without creating macro voids due to internal pressure. The large brown preform may then be sintered and subsequently thermomechanically processed to produce a net wrought microstructure and properties that are substantially free the interstitial spaces.
