Abstract: An optical component, for example a lens, integrally formed of a nano/nano class nanocomposite optical ceramic (NNCOC) material. The constituent nanograin materials of the NNCOC material are selected to tailor the thermal and optical properties of the lens so as to provide a lens with a substantially constant focal length over an operating temperature range and/or an optical system in which the image position does not change appreciably over the operating temperature range.

Abstract: An adhesive film for a reflection sheet and a reflection sheet using the adhesive film is provided. The adhesive film comprises a plastic base film having a heat shrinkage of ?0.1 to 0.5% at 150° C. in machine and transverse directions; an adhesive layer formed on one side of the base film by applying an adhesive composition; and an anchor coating layer formed on the other side of the base film, opposite to the side on which the adhesive layer is formed. The adhesive film for a reflection sheet is manufactured by applying an adhesive composition on a plastic base film where heat shrinkage is controlled. Thus, the adhesive film has superior dimensional stability at a high temperature and excellent workability in a post process for laminating a reflection layer. Partial detachment does not occur when an adhesive layer is detached from an adherent, and stable physical properties can be achieved.

Abstract: To facilitate discrimination of a curb, a gutter or the like by using an infrared illuminating device and an infrared-sensitive image pickup device mounted on an exterior mirror of a vehicle when the vehicle is pulled over to a shoulder at night. Two illuminating devices having optical axes oriented downward are mounted on a housing of a side mirror at a distance from each other in the lateral direction of a vehicle. The illuminating devices alternately emit infrared light downwardly. An image pickup device sensitive to infrared light having an optical axis oriented downward is mounted on the housing at a middle position between the left and right illuminating devices. An image taken by the image pickup device is displayed on an image monitor disposed at a position where the monitor can be viewed from the driver seat.

Abstract: The invention provides an artificial ice substrate that floats on a body of water. The top surface of the artificial ice reflects a portion of the sunlight back away from the earth. The bottom surface has nutrients for enhancing the growth of algae. Several weeks after placement of the artificial ice in the body of water, a ship with harvesting equipment, scrapes the algae off artificial ice and into a collection tank, re-applies nutrients to the underside of the ice substrate, and then deposits the artificial ice back into the lake or ocean. The marine plants are then converter into fuel. Besides creating carbon neutral fuel, this method provides carbon credits by means of reflecting sun energy back into space.
