Abstract: The construction of a receiving apparatus for receiving a broadcast from a plurality of broadcasting providers is simplified. In a receiving apparatus for receiving a broadcast from a plurality of broadcasting providers, of the function blocks which constitute the receiving apparatus, a block used in common irrespective of the broadcasting provider is formed as a common block, and a block different from one broadcasting provider to another is formed as an independent block. These blocks are connected to each other through an IEEE1394 interface, and the common block is shared among the plurality of blocks which are not used in common, so that a receiving process is performed.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, a selective encryption encoder has a packet identifier that identifies packets of a specified packet type. The specified packet type includes packets carrying data representing a video slice wherein the video slice contains a larger amount of data than a threshold amount of data. A packet duplicator duplicates the identified packets to produce first and second sets of the identified packets. Packets are sent and received to and from a primary encryption encoder to encrypt the first set of identified packets under a first encryption method. A secondary encrypter encrypts the second set of identified packets under a second encryption method. Abstract: A two level cross-correlation based system for watermarking continuous digital media at the system application level. It is a post-compression process for watermarking where no a priori knowledge of the underlying compression algorithm is required. Per each compressed media frame, a current unique digital signature is generated based on the data from the current compressed frame plus the digital signature that has been previously generated. The signature thus generated is then used in conjunction with the next compressed frame to generate the next unique digital signature. All digital signatures are correlated according to the above process until a “reset” signal is issued. A new chain of correlated digital signatures is produced by the system with a pre-determined initial signature.

Abstract: Methods and devices for controlling access to digital content. The digital content is split into at least one code part and one scrambled part. A codec of a user device finds that the first part is not scrambled and plays it. The first part comprises code to be retrieved and entered by a user. Using the input code, the codec generates a corresponding scrambling key, possibly also using additional information such as a current time. The codec then detects an upcoming scrambled part and uses the generated scrambling key to descramble and display the scrambled section. In a preferred embodiment, instead of entering part of the code itself, the codec generates, using e.g. metadata and time, to generate part of the code to display to the user.

Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, digital content is mastered as a combination of encrypted data and data processing operations that enable use in approved playback environments. Player devices having a processing environment compatible with the content's data processing operations are able to decrypt and play the content. Players can also provide content with basic functions, such as loading data from media, performing network communications, determining playback environment configuration, controlling decryption/playback, and/or performing cryptographic operations using the player's keys. These functions allow the content to implement and enforce its own security policies. If pirates compromise individual players or content titles, new content can be mastered with new security features that block the old attacks. A selective decryption capability can also be provided, enabling on-the-fly watermark insertion so that attacks can be traced back to a particular player.

A data feedback path stores the descrambled data as internal data and provides the internal data or the external data as data input to the first cryptographic block. A key feedback path stores the descrambled key as an internal key and provides the internal key or the preprogrammed key to a key input of the first cryptographic block. A second cryptographic block descrambles received content using a final descrambling key. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A data recording device. A random data generator randomly generates substitute data. A recording data generator receives original data and a recording address from a host, receives the substitute data, compares the recording address with a reference address, and outputs the substitute data according to the comparison result. An encoder generates a first data block according to the substitute data. A modulator modulates the first data block. An optical pickup records the modulated first data block on the optical recording medium according to the recording address.

The decompressor is configured to receive a compressed video stream, and to reconstruct a first frame of the video stream in the on-chip buffer. The encrypt unit is configured to generate one or more pixel block streams from pixel blocks of the first frame in the on-chip buffer according to sequence data describing an order of access of the pixel blocks to reconstruct subsequent frames of the video stream. The sequence data was previously generated via processing of the video stream by the integrated circuit, and the encrypt unit is configured to encrypt the pixel block streams to be written to an external memory. In an embodiment, an integrated circuit comprises a decrypt unit configured to decrypt an encrypted, compressed video stream; an on-chip buffer; and a decompressor coupled to the decrypt unit and the on-chip buffer.
