Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to microfabrication of three dimensional polymeric structures incorporating a large number of identical elements each having one or more materials. In specific embodiments, the structures are large area fiber optic plates and associated structures, wherein the fibers are precisely located relative to each other and can serve as optical readout, such as optical readout for high density microarrays of biomaterial and other chemicals or pharmaceuticals. A three-dimensional fiber optic plate can be fabricated by a lithographic process in which a 2D solid slice is produced by exposing a 2D layer of photocurable liquid to ultraviolet light. The cured layer is lowered and the process is repeated to build the plate layer by layer.

  • Patent number: 8642150
Abstract: A shim set comprising at least two shims of different thickness, the shims of the set being integrally formed as a one-piece plastic moulding, the shims of the set being connected in adjacent relationship by a connection which permits an individual shim to be separated from the set but which is flexible to permit a shim while connected to an adjacent shim to be folded over so that the two shims lie in face-to-face relation and thereby form a shim combination of increased thickness.

  • Patent number: 8637136
Abstract: Articles enabled by an injection molding process that molds parts on a carrier web located between mold halves and uses ultrasonic energy to assist flow of polymer melt into the mold cavity. One such article is a carrier web having a high density of molded parts, i.e., bearing an array of molded articles adhered to the web in rows and columns, the articles being spaced closer (center-to-center or edge-to-edge) than the diagonal spacing between articles in the next adjacent row and next adjacent column. Another such article is a microneedle array on a land no more than 250 ?m thick on which at least 60% of the microneedles across the array are filled (i.e., completely formed).

Abstract: There are provided a transparent conductive film, as well as a heater, a touch panel, a solar battery, an organic EL device, a liquid crystal device, and an electronic paper that are provided with the transparent conductive film, the transparent conductive film being capable of easing a decline in optical transmittance when graphene is laminated, and of achieving optical transmittance higher than an upper limit of optical transmittance of a single layer of graphene. The transparent conductive film includes a single-layered conductive graphene sheet. The single-layered conductive graphene sheet includes a first region and a second region, the first region being configured of graphene, and the second region being surrounded by the first region and having optical transmittance that is higher than optical transmittance of the first region.

Abstract: The present shock absorbing layer for a helmet includes a base plate and a plurality of spaced apart, independently and elastically collapsible, shock absorbing members. These hollow shock absorbing members define a closed perimeter wall extending upwardly from the base plate to an open top end sized to cause negligible reduction of fluid flow exiting the shock absorbing member. The closed perimeter wall includes a first portion with opposed inner and outer surfaces each having the shape of a frustum, and a second portion with opposed inner and outer surfaces each also having the shape of a frustum. These inner surfaces are interconnected through relatively radially wider ends of their respective frustums to define an inner angle therebetween of less than 180 degrees. These outer surfaces are interconnected through relatively radially wider ends of their respective frustums to define an outer angle therebetween of greater than 180 degrees.
