  • Patent number: 11268824
Abstract: A server identifies landmarks associated with users as the users take part in trips or otherwise interact with a navigation system. The server causes presentation of the identified landmarks to the users during future trips, such as part of navigational directions along a route to a particular destination, or on a visible portion of a map user interface. Presentation of the user-specific landmarks allows the users with more context and thus the ability to better navigate.

Abstract: Embodiments generally relate to determining traffic congestion patterns. In some embodiments, a method includes identifying congestion events for each road of a plurality of roads in a road network, where each congestion event indicates a drop in average vehicle speed below a predetermined speed threshold for a particular road in the road network, and where the congestion events span a predetermined time period. The method further includes determining local clusters of the congestion events based on one or more road condition parameters, where each local cluster defines a local congestion pattern for a particular road of the plurality of roads in the road network. The method further includes grouping the local clusters into one or more global clusters based on the one or more road condition parameters, where the global clusters define global congestion patterns in the road network.

  • Patent number: 11226624
Abstract: A process and system for enabling a 360-degree threat detection sensor system that is physically coupled to a vehicle to monitor an area of interest surrounding the vehicle. An electronic computing device selects an area of interest surrounding a vehicle stop location to be monitored by the sensor system. When the sensor system has an obstructed field-of-view of the area of interest, the electronic computing device determines a new vehicle stop location at which the sensor system has an unobstructed field-of-view of the area of interest when the vehicle is to be stopped at the new vehicle stop location. The electronic computing device then transmits an instruction to a target electronic device to provide an electronic indication identifying the new vehicle stop location to a registered occupant of the vehicle, or autonomously control the vehicle to stop at the new vehicle stop location.

  • Patent number: 11205079
Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to methods and systems for obtaining geographic position data for features that are captured through a device using a relative coordinate system, such as an optical sensor on a vehicle travelling along a route. The relative positions of the features are transformed into geographic positions by first establishing a spatial relationship between the relative coordinate system and a geographic coordinate system. Once the spatial relationship is known, it can be used to match a number of the features captured in the relative coordinate system to features having a known position within the geographic coordinate system, preferably, features that are known to have an accurately measured geographic position. The matched features can then be used as tie points between the relative coordinate system and the geographic coordinate system, and then used to transform unmatched features in the relative coordinate system to positions in the geographic coordinate system.

Abstract: This application is directed to a geographic information display method. While a first mobile device is executing an instant messaging application, it obtains its own geographic location information, a second mobile device's geographic location information, and a first timestamp at which the geographic location information is recorded. The first mobile device then displays an interactive map associated with the first timestamp on a user interface. The displayed map includes two marks that represent the locations of the first and second mobile devices, respectively, and instant messages exchanged between these two mobile devices are displayed on the map adjacent to the two marks. As the first mobile device obtains updated geographic location information in association with a second timestamp, it updates the location of the second mobile device while the mark corresponding to the first mobile device remains at the same location on the user interface.

Abstract: A method of receiving a user-command by a processor includes displaying on a touchscreen a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI includes a map view and an interactive menu. The map view has displayed thereon a map of a geographical area, and a route. The route has at least two Points of Interest (POIs) sequentially located along the route. A first one of the POIs is an in-focus one. A second one of the POIs is an out-of-focus one. The interactive menu has displayed thereon a first POI card associated with the first POI. The first POI card is changeable with a second POI card, which is associated with the second POI. In response to a user interaction with the interactive menu, focus is changed from the first POI card to the second POI card, and from the first POI to the second POI.

  • Patent number: 10739160
Abstract: A system for determining a road frustration index value includes a vehicle and a user computing device within the vehicle and a remote computing system, where a telematics system associated with the vehicle senses a speed of the vehicle. The computing device calculates, in near real-time and based on vehicle speed information and the road class of one or more route segments of a travel route, a first frustration level value associated with the driver of the vehicle and identify, based on whether the first frustration level value meets a criterion, an alternate route segment having second frustration level value predicted to be less than the first frustration level value. The remote computing system receives information associated with the first route segment and the alternate route segment and calculates insurance cost based on the road frustration index values associated with a route traveled in the vehicle.

Abstract: Auxiliary navigational assistance is provided by determining, by one or more processors, that a user traveling along a specified travel route with the assistance of a navigation system can use additional navigational assistance at a particular region of the specified travel route. Based on the determining, the one or more processors assign an unmanned vehicle to assist the user in traveling through the particular region along the specified travel route. Further, the one or more processors provide one or more auxiliary instructions to the user's navigation system directing the user to reference the unmanned vehicle within the particular region to assist the user in traveling through the particular region along the specified travel route. In operation, the particular region overlaps only a portion of the specified travel route.

  • Patent number: 10684139
Abstract: A non-scaled, linearly compressed pictographic mapping system is provided for the visual display of information in a navigational aid. Unlike today's road maps which use a point-arc-polygon paradigm, the new mapping uses a non-scaled, linearly-compressed pictographic design that shows roads as linear pictograms. The display has a columnar layout, whereby the descriptive elements are grouped together by type, and displayed one above the other in columns. The maps may also contain icons representing points of interest. In this manner, the mapping paradigm also serves to increase traveler safety, provide navigation assistance during address-less trips, create valuable advertising space and new promotional opportunities, and dramatically increases the travelers' communications and entertainment options.

Abstract: This technology relates to selectively providing details of surrounding roads to passengers of a vehicle. One or more computing devices may calculate a plane relative to an orientation of the vehicle based upon at least one of the vehicle's location, pitch, and yaw. For each surrounding road a distance between the surrounding road and the plane may be determined by the one or more computing devices. The one or more computing devices may generate and display a video indicating a projected trajectory of the vehicle and objects detected by sensors on the vehicle, on a map corresponding to a route the vehicle is currently following and virtual representations of surrounding roads which are within a predefined distance of the location of the vehicle based on the determined distance for each of the surrounding roads.
