    Abstract: A system and method of servicing a group of similar types of equipment that maybe installed at geographically separated locations is described. The method makes use of error messages produced by the equipment and service requests received by a servicing center. Data mining techniques are used to establish error patterns associated with specific failure modes so that future error messages may be processed to determine if an identified failure mode has occurred. This will enable the efficient dispatch of spare parts and service personnel to the location where the failure has occurred.

Upon receipt of a bug report, a process creates a defect record in a storage memory wherein the record describes the bug in accordance with the bug report. After allocating a first scope associated with a first product release and a second scope associated with a second product release, the process displays the defect record together with the first scope and the second scope on a screen. The first scope allocates a portion of the storage space to track a bug status associated with the first product release and the second scope allocates another portion of the storage space to track the bug status associated with the second product release.

    Abstract: A motherboard error detection system includes a pluggable error detection board and a motherboard having a boot management chip. When the motherboard enters a device-driven status from a standby status, the boot management chip is used to manage power-on timings of different voltage sources; to collect a plurality of sets of status information; and to check whether the sets of status information and the power-on timings have errors. The pluggable error detection board includes an interpreting unit, a message-reading interface and a connector which is pluggably disposed on the motherboard. When the boot management chip notifies the pluggable error detection board to read an error message, the interpreting unit converts the error message to human-readable information, and the human-readable information is outputted through the message-reading interface.

    Abstract: A POST card includes a PCI connector, an LPC connector, a controller, and an indicating module. The controller includes a PCI decoder, an LPC decoder, a multiplexer, and a driver. The POST card connects to and reads error codes from a computer motherboard by the PCI connector or the LPC connector depending on which type of interface the computer motherboard has. The PCI decoder is activated and decodes the error codes read through the PCI connector. The LPC decoder is activated and decodes the error codes read through the LPC connector. The multiplexer connects the driver to the PCI decoder or the LPC decoder to transmit the error code to the driver depending on which one of the PCI connector and the LPC connector is connected to the computer motherboard. The driver drives the indicating module to display the error codes.

An alarm message generated by a network element is received. A context value in the alarm message is identified. A table that associates context values to correlation key value formulas is maintained. A formula specifying how to generate the correlation key value is retrieved from the table. Each formula may specify, for an associated context value, one or more ordinal positions of fields in the alarm message, a concatenation of which yields the correlation key value. The correlation key value is created based on the formula. A unique ordinal number is generated to represent the correlation key value, which acts as a context key. The alarm message and correlation key value are sent to an external system for use in correlating alarms.

For example, log messages are generated by a variety of network platforms (e.g., Windows servers, Linux servers, UNIX servers, databases, workstations, etc.). A log manager described herein collects such log data using various protocols (e.g., Syslog, SNMP, SMTP, etc.) to determine events. That is, the log manager may communicate with the network platforms using appropriate protocols to collect log messages therefrom. The log manager may then determine events (e.g., unauthorized access, logins, etc.) from the log data and transfer the events to an event manager. The event manager may analyze the events and determine whether alarms should be generated therefrom.
