  • Patent number: 8230269
Abstract: Architecture for aggregating health alerts from a number of related components into a single aggregated health state that can be analyzed to isolate the component responsible for the fault condition. In a hierarchy of related components within various component groups in a computer system, a number of health indicators can indicate alerts occurring in one or more of the related components whereas the fault condition occurs in only one component upon which the other components depend. The health indicators of related components are aggregated into an aggregated health state for each component group. These aggregated health states are analyzed to identify the related component associated with a root cause of the alert condition for an affected component group.

  • Patent number: 8225291
Abstract: Detecting performance bottlenecks in a target application is provided. In response to receiving hotspot selections from a user interface, bottleneck rules are extracted from a database. A hotspot is a region of source code that exceeds a time threshold to execute in the target application. Metrics needed to evaluate the bottleneck rules extracted from the database are identified. The identified metrics are computed. It is determined whether each bottleneck rule extracted from the database is evaluated to true using the computed metrics for hotspots in the target application. In response to determining that a bottleneck rule is evaluated to true using an appropriate computed metric corresponding to the bottleneck rule, a bottleneck description is created for the bottleneck rule. Then, the bottleneck description is sent to the user interface.

Abstract: Problems in a network may be diagnosed based on alarm messages received from devices in the network and based on logical circuit path information of the network. In one implementation, a device may log alarm messages, in which each of the logged alarm messages may identify a network device that generated the alarm message and each of the alarm messages are associated with a time value. The device may group the alarm messages in the log of alarm messages based on the time values of the alarm messages to obtain one or more alarm message clusters and analyze the alarm message clusters to locate potential causes of the logged alarm messages.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided methods and systems for facilitating efficient error handling in a network environment. A method of embodiments includes receiving a validation request having configuration parameters of error dialogs relating to errors, and validating the configuration parameters and the errors. The validating includes mapping each error with a corresponding dialog. The method further includes transmitting a validating report having results of validation of the configuration parameters and the errors. The validation report is used to assign an order to each error and its corresponding dialog.

Abstract: Techniques are provided that enable the display of full text index-ability, indexing, and container extraction status of files in a collection repository in connection with content management. Further, techniques are provided that: guarantee the user knows which files failed to index and explode and which files are not indexable; tell the user which files have not been indexed yet, so they are not omitted from the analysis; allow users to work on the collected files without waiting for maximum possible indexing period; allow users to start working immediately on collected content; allow for displaying indexing and extraction status information relevant only to the search query; allow for automatic and manual update of a list of un-indexable file types; and allow for informing users about the processing status of a collection by sending notifications, displaying alerts, and providing appropriate views.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and system for network fault management in busy periods. When a fault occurs in a network it can be difficult to understand the relevant network conditions at the moment of the fault because of the large numbers of factors that are involved. The solution presented is a method and system for managing a data processing network, wherein the network comprises a set of connected network devices and at least one network device generates an event record containing an identity of the generating network device and a timestamp indicating when the event was generated.

Abstract: Techniques for systematically gathering, organizing, and storing diagnostic data related to multiple monitored systems (e.g., multiple instances of a product or multiple products). A centralized repository is provided that is organized in a hierarchical manner to facilitate proper organization of the diagnostic data related to multiple monitored systems. In one embodiment, a root directory comprising one or more subdirectories is provided for storing diagnostic data collected for each monitored system. Multiple root directories may be provided under a common base directory for storing diagnostic data corresponding to multiple monitored systems. This enables correlation of diagnostic data across multiple monitored systems.

Abstract: There is provided an information processor capable of preventing an unintended operation from being caused by configuration information set in the information processor being updated even if the information processor such as a multi-function peripheral receives configuration information from outside during execution of a job, as well as capable of (1) making it possible to know that update has not been performed, (2) making it possible to externally confirm that update has not been performed and (3) updating the configuration information as soon as possible after the job ends; and an information processing method. If configuration information is inputted from an external device via an EthernetÒ 1008 or the like, the information processor included in a multi-function peripheral 1001 or the like determines whether the information processor is executing a job.

  • Patent number: 8135990
Abstract: Network survivability is quantified in such a way that failure cases can be compared and ranked against each other in terms of the severity of their impact on the various performance measures associated with the network. The degradation in network performance caused by each failure is quantified based on user-defined sets of thresholds of degradation severity for each performance measure. Each failure is simulated using a model of the network, and a degradation vector is determined for each simulated failure. A comparison function is defined to map the degradation vectors into an ordered set, and this ordered set is used to create an ordered list of network failures, in order of the network degradation caused by each failure.

Abstract: An error in a web page displayed on a device is detected. The error is assigned to a bucket to indicate a type of the error, and a record describing the current state of the device is generated. Both an indication of the bucket and the record describing the current state of the device are then sent to a server. At the server, error information including error records and bucket identifiers are received from multiple devices. Each error record describes a current state of one of the multiple devices at a time when an error in a web page displayed on the one device was detected. Each bucket identifier corresponds to one of the error records and describes a type of the error associated with that error record. The error records are grouped into multiple baskets based at least in part on the current state information in the error records.
