Abstract: A set of workflows are provided for supporting proper user notifications after an action is taken by the user in conjunction with an asynchronous communication service. Timing and/or type of the notifications or an action to be taken by the service is determined based on one or more of a nature of the user action that failed, a time elapsed since the action was taken, multi-action dependencies, device types, and similar characteristics enhancing user experience and reducing confusion.

Abstract: A technique for collecting and correlating locking data collects and correlates information on a plurality of programs waiting on or holding a plurality of resources in a multi-computer database system. The technique identifies a program executing on one computer of the multi-computer database system that is waiting on a resource. The technique also identifies a second program, executing on another computer, as the ultimate holder of the resource. An operator display screen displays information corresponding to the first program and the second program. The operator display screen may be switched between a multiline display format and a single line display format. The collection, identification, and display of the locking data is performed periodically, to allow the operator to discover locking problems and take a desired corrective action.

The receiver module may receive a transaction authorization channel error notification corresponding to the transaction authorization channel. The web server module may provide reporting information based on the fault-related events and the transaction authorization channel error notification to a user.

Abstract: Methods, articles, and systems for determining a probable cause of a component's abnormal behavior are described. To determine the probable cause, a computing device computes, for one or more pairs of components having dependency relationships, a likelihood that behavior of one component of a pair is impacting behavior of the other component of the pair. This computing is based on joint historical behavior of the pair of components. The computing device then determines that one of a plurality of components is a probable cause of the abnormal behavior based on the computed likelihoods.

Abstract: A distributed system provides error handling wherein the system includes multiple nodes, each node being coupled to multiple node controllers for control redundancy. Multiple system controllers couple to the node controllers via a network bus. A particular node controller may detect an error of that particular node controller. The particular node controller may store error information relating to the detected error in respective nonvolatile memory stores in the system controllers and node controllers according to a particular priority order. In accordance with the particular priority order, for example, the particular node controller may first attempt to store the error information to a primary system controller memory store, then to a secondary system controller memory store, and then to sibling and non-sibling node controller memory stores. The primary system controller organizes available error information for use by system administrators and other resources of the distributed system.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention dynamically reduce a frequency at which IT infrastructure automatically generates alerts. Historical data across a plurality of data sources in the IT infrastructure is analyzed. An opportunity to reduce the frequency at which the IT infrastructure automatically generates the alerts is identified. A new alert policy addressing the opportunity to reduce alert frequency is generated. An impact of the new alert policy on a set of predefined service level objectives (SLOs) and service level agreements (SLAs) is evaluated. The new alert policy is deployed in the IT infrastructure.

Backup data may then be retained on the remote device identified by the backup utility as being local.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, computer-readable media, and a computerized system to track and detect data hazards are provided. The computerized system includes processors configured to execute instructions associated with a multithreaded program. The computerized system allocates memory for the multithreaded program and creates threads for execution on the processors. The memory may include a reserved area for tracking information. The threads access the allocated memory in accordance with the multithreaded program and the memory including the tracking information is updated based on the threads' memory access. In turn, the processors generate notifications of data hazard based on the tracking information stored in the allocated memory.

Abstract: A computer system includes server computers, application program storage modules, a communication network, client computers, a database storage module, and a test data presentation module. The database storage module stores event data. The event data logs events that occur in the server computers during performance test runs. The test runs are performed in connection with a plurality of projects. The projects are defined for performance testing the application programs. The test data presentation module generates a test data screen display for rendering by one of the client computers. The test data screen display includes a data table. The data table presents event data relating to events that occurred during test runs for two or more of the projects.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a switched voice alarm on a switched and/or Internet Protocol (IP) network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alarm associated with a switched voice service, and retrieves a Local Routing Number (LRN) or Primary Inter-exchange Carrier (PIC) information from a switch serving a call associated with a caller's telephone number. The method determines if the alarm is due to one or more service degradations, and notifies a work center responsible for one or more of the service degradations if the alarm is due to the one or more service degradations.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing automated problem reporting in elements used in conjunction with computer networks are disclosed. The system comprises a plurality of elements that perform data migration operations and a reporting manager or monitor agent which monitors the elements and data migration operations. Upon detection of hardware or software problems, the reporting manager or monitor agent automatically communicates with elements affected by the problem to gather selected hardware, software, and configuration information, analyzes the information to determine causes of the problem, and issues a problem report containing at least a portion of the selected information. The problem report is communicated to a remote monitor that does not possess access privileges to the elements, allowing automated, remote monitoring of the elements without compromising security of the computer network or elements.

A system outage is ascertained and aberrant user activities are categorized, as possible contributors to the system outage, based on system impact. Abstract: Native applications inherit transaction contexts when invoked by primary applications running in separate hosting environments, by: receiving, by an interface of a native application server in a first hosting environment, a unique transaction context identifier for an invocation of the native application at the native application server by the primary application at a primary application server in a second hosting environment; receiving a SQL statement from the native application by the interface of the native application server; sending the SQL statement and the unique transaction context identifier to the primary application server for execution by the interface of the native application server; receiving a result of the execution of the SQL statement and the unique transaction context identifier from the primary application server by the interface of the native application server; and sending the result to the native application by the interface of the native application server.

Abstract: Error information is sent from a terminal adaptor that accesses a wireless network to terminal equipment coupled to access the wireless network through the terminal adaptor. The error information is sent in response to existence of any one of a plurality of errors conditions with respect to access to the wireless network. The error information includes an error type identifying a domain associated with a source of the error condition being reported and an error code providing a reject error cause for the error condition. One of the error conditions may include an unsolicited error received by the terminal adaptor from the wireless network or when a request by the TA is ignored by the wireless network.

Abstract: A method for troubleshooting a set top box is disclosed and can include receiving a trouble ticket from a set top box and initiating a self test at the set top box. The method can also include receiving test results from the set top box and analyzing the test results to isolate a problem.

Abstract: A system and method for handling exceptions in a multi-threaded computing environment. Information, such as that relating to an error state or pertaining to the propagation history of an exception, is stored in a separate object from the exception object itself. The separate propagation information object is accessible to the plurality of threads that are used to execute a user task. The separate object allows rich diagnostic information pertaining to the exception and its propagation through multiple threads to be presented to the developer of the software.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for sending failure information from a solid state drive (SSD) to a host device. In operation, an error is detected during an operation associated with a solid state drive. Additionally, a command is received for failure information from a host device. Further, the failure information is sent from the solid state drive to the host device, the failure information including failure information associated with the solid state drive.

Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to identifying and locating a failed or failing system component within a computer system, and more specifically to providing indicator lights and/or associated voice alerts to indicate, identify, and locate failed or failing system components within a computer system. A method for indicating a fault in a computer system in accordance with an embodiment includes: detecting a fault in the computer system; obtaining a problem definition associated with the fault; and generating an audible voice fault alert corresponding to the problem definition.

Abstract: To facilitate retransmission of a data file that has been deleted from a server, a data processing device includes a first storage section in which a management table is stored. The management table includes a list of communication histories with respect to communications with each of the servers. Each communication history indicates a data file transmitted to the server. The device further includes a second storage section storing data files transmitted to the servers. A control section is provided for judging, when a communication section is in communication with a server, whether or not a data file which has already been transmitted to the server needs to be retransmitted and retransmit the data file to the server upon retrieving the data file from the second storage section when judgment is made so that retransmission of the data file is needed.

Abstract: A media player may occasionally be unable to play or continue to play a particular item of media. When that occurs, the media player outputs an error indication that is related to the type of media that the problem media item is representative of. For example, if the problem item is a movie, then the media player may display an error indication having the appearance of broken movie film. If the problem media item is music, then the media player may display an error indication having the appearance of a broken compact disc (“CD”). Thus whatever the type of media that is not playing, the media player outputs an error indication that is appropriate for that type of media. The error indications output by the player are therefore context-based or media-appropriate.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for determining a number of users corresponding to a server load including simulating one or more virtual users on a test computer system on coupled to network. One or more client requests are sent from each of the one or more virtual users to a server application executed on a server computer system coupled to the network. A metric indicative of a load on the server computer system is measured. The metric is compared to a predetermined value; and the number of the one or more virtual users is changed based on the difference between the metric and the predetermined value until the metric is within a predetermined range of the predetermined value.

Abstract: A system, a computer program product and a method for failure prediction are implemented on an agent. The agent is installed on a machine to be monitored. The method includes detecting service data on the machine. A reference database is accessed, and a failure pattern is provided. The detected service data are analyzed in view of the provided failure pattern by applying a correlation mechanism, such that a prediction for future failures is generated and depicted as a result.

Abstract: A computerized method for collecting error data and providing error reports relating to occurrences of errors of software applications installed on one or more computing devices is disclosed. Data for describing software applications and identifying software application errors is collected from the computing devices and stored in a catalog. Data associated with error occurrences is obtained and combined with related data being stored in the catalog. A report is generated based on the error occurrences and related catalog data.

Abstract: A distributed computing system includes a plurality of intercommunicating component machines. In a method for alert processing, when a component machine fails to perform an operation, and no alert information regarding that operation is currently stored by that component machine, peer machines among the component machines are identified with regard to the operation. Notification is sent to the peer machines regarding failure to perform the operation, notifying the peer machines to store alert information regarding the operation. The component machine stores the alert information regarding the operation and issues an alert corresponding to the failure to perform the operation. A computer readable medium containing executable instructions is also described.

The buffer may be coupled to a data stream and configured to store at least part of the data stream, and the match event table may be configured to store data indicative of a buffer location corresponding with a start of a search criterion being satisfied.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for collecting and processing line performance data transmitted over cables, e.g., Y-cables, is disclosed. The present invention applies a method based on specific performance measurements, specific measurement time intervals, and compare results from different measurement time intervals to produce a “signature” that indicates deteriorating performance of a particular Y-cable. Once a “signature” is detected, the method will proactively and automatically generate a trouble ticket to trigger the dispatch maintenance staffs to service the cable, e.g., to perform the replacement of the Y-cable in question, thus completing the predictive maintenance process. A trouble ticket is a record used to report and manage the resolution of network related problems.

Abstract: A method retrieves an event record that identifies a network device that generated the event and that contains a timestamp indicating when the event was generated. A key period of use associated with the generating network device is also retrieved. If the time of the event is within the retrieved key period, the event record is modified to show that the event is within the retrieved key period. Using information in the modified event record, the event and an indication that the event is within the retrieved key period is displayed.

Abstract: In one embodiment a computing system comprises one or more processors, a display device coupled to the computing system, and a memory module communicatively connected to the one or more processors. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in correcting a data transaction. A data transaction including a plurality of transaction values is received from a data provider. At least a portion of the transaction values is validated. When the validation of at least one transaction value fails, a validation failure notification including a link is provided to a user. When the link is selected, the transaction values are provided via a presentation interface, and erroneous transaction values are distinguished from non-erroneous transaction values. A correction request message including the erroneous transaction values may be generated and sent to a user associated with the data provider. A revised transaction may be received from the data provider and executed to correct the erroneous transaction values.

Abstract: Problems in a network may be diagnosed based on alarm messages received from devices in the network and based on logical circuit path information of the network. In one implementation, a device may log alarm messages, in which each of the logged alarm messages may identify a network device that generated the alarm message and each of the alarm messages are associated with a time value. The device may group the alarm messages in the log of alarm messages based on the time values of the alarm messages to obtain one or more alarm message clusters and analyze the alarm message clusters to locate potential causes of the logged alarm messages.

Abstract: Various embodiments include a method and system for high-volume distributed script error report handling. A group of user terminals may be selected to report errors, where the group of user terminals is a subset of user terminals having open user session and the group of user terminals is smaller than a predetermined threshold value. An error report, generated by a user terminal in response to a script error, may then be received, where the user terminal is in the group of user terminals selected to report errors. The received error report may then be processed to create a processed error report. The processed error report may then be presented to a service user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for writing data on a magnetic tape having a plurality of partitions and accessed by a tape drive having an associated tape drive processor in communication with a host computer having an associated host processor include storing a read-only partition identifier associated with each of the plurality of partitions, comparing a requested write partition identifier with the stored read-only partition identifiers, and writing data to the requested write partition only if the associated read-only identifier indicates that the requested write partition is not a read-only partition.

The apparatus and methods may compile and store data related to the physical devices and applications associated with an infrastructure change. Variables may be derived from the stored data using a range of methods and multiple variable values may be consolidated. A model may be developed based on the values and relationships of the derived variables. The model may be applied to assess the risk of a prospective infrastructure change.
