  • Patent number: 8419491
Abstract: When a movable blade cuts a distal end portion of a ground electrode member and is pulled back along a cut surface formed at a distal end of the ground electrode member, the distal end portion may move in the pull-back direction of the movable blade due to friction generated between the movable blade and the cut surface. This movement could cause deflective deformation of the ground electrode member. In order to restrain such movement, a support part is provided on the movable blade via a spring located near the cut surface. During the pull back step, the support part presses and supports the portion of the cut ground electrode member near the distal end thereof. Therefore, even when friction is generated when the movable blade is pulled back, the ground electrode member does not undergo deflective deformation.

  • Patent number: 8412366
Abstract: A method and system are provided for automatically portioning workpieces, such as food products, into both shape and other user-defined specification(s). Workpieces are portioned both to shape and weight, such as to a weight-specific uniform shape, by adjusting (e.g., scaling up and down or slightly modifying) a desired template shape until the desired weight is achieved depending on the varying thickness of each workpiece. For example, from a thicker workpiece, a smaller-sized piece having a predefined shape and weight is portioned, while from a thinner workpiece, a larger-sized piece having the same predefined shape and weight is portioned. The system permits a user to scan in and edit a desired (reference) shape to be used as a template in the portioning process.

Abstract: A food slicing and weighing system produces stacks of slices of food product. Each stack has a total number of slices or a weight greater than a predetermined minimum stack weight. The food slicing and weighing line comprises a slicing unit and a weighing unit. The slicing unit has a blade for cutting slices off a log of food and a control arrangement comprising a controller for setting the thickness of the slices. The weighing unit has a surface supported by a load sensor. The surface is positioned at the location the slices are cut off the log, each slice dropping onto the surface as each slice is cut from the log. The load sensor senses the weight of the slices as each slice is dropped onto the surface and provides a signal to the controller. The controller determines from the signal a measured combined weight of a number of slices less than the total number of slices and then a target thickness for a next slice to be added to the stack of slices based on the measured combined weight.

Abstract: A method for making a metallic casing includes providing an apparatus comprising a first mold and a second mold, placing a preform into a rectangular depression of first mold, moving the first mold to the second mold so that each sharp edge is substantially coplanar with a corresponding cutting edge, moving the first mold to the second mold so that the cutting edges are beyond the corresponding sharp edges of the first mold to complete a partial cut procedure, and moving the first mold to the second mold so that the secondary-cutting edge moves beyond the corresponding sharp edge and completely cuts the excess off the side wall.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for braking or locking a shaft (6) of a microtome (1). The microtome (1) comprises the shaft (6), an actuating element (2), a movement mechanism (37) and a housing (38). With the movement mechanism (37) an object to be cut can be moved relative to a knife blade. The actuating element (2) can be manually actuated by an operator. As a result thereof, the shaft (6) can be rotated. Via the shaft (6), the movement mechanism (37) for performing the relative motion between the object and the knife blade can be driven. Further, the present invention relates to a method for operating a device for braking a shaft (6) of a microtome (1). So that the device can be used in a mechanically formed movement mechanism (37), the inventive device is characterized by an actuator and a braking unit (25). The braking unit (25) is connected in a rotatably fixed manner to the shaft (6).

Abstract: A concave tapered food product includes a cross section and a second end having a shape defined by a generally concave arc and a generally convex arc. The concave tapered food product has a first side and a second side shaped by a longitudinal cut along the foodstuff. A cutter assembly for cutting a foodstuff to form the concave tapered food product includes a housing member. The cutter assembly also includes a curvilinear blade including a cutting edge for cutting the foodstuff, the cutting edge defining an arc along a first portion of the curvilinear blade and a foot positioned at an end of the curvilinear blade for supporting the curvilinear blade. The foot is configured for being received and secured in the housing member. The housing member is configured for at least partially enclosing the curvilinear blade.

  • Patent number: 8347769
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for controlling a brake of a microtome. The microtome (1) has an actuating element (2), a movement mechanism (8) and a brake. With the aid of the movement mechanism (8), an object to be cut can be moved relative to a knife blade. The actuating element (2) can be manually actuated by an operator and, as a result thereof, the relative motion between the object and the knife blade can be performed with the movement mechanism (8). The relative motion can be locked with the aid of the brake. So that the relative motion between the object and the knife blade can be used in a mechanically designed movement mechanism (8) and/or the relative motion can be locked without an additional hand movement of the operator, the inventive device is characterized by at least one sensor unit (5, 13). The sensor unit (5, 13) is provided on the actuating element (2) or adjacent to the actuating element (2). With the aid of the sensor unit (5, 13) a contact by the operator can be determined.

Abstract: A wire saw assembly having a slide frame, support frames, and a tensioning carriage. The slide frame has a mounting plate movably attached thereto. Rotation of a lead screw moves the mounting plate towards a work piece. Two support frames are attached to the mounting plate. Each support frame has a plurality of drive wheels and a hydraulic motor for each drive wheel. The tensioning carriage has a slide plate with an idler pulley attached rotatably thereto. Abstract: An input conveyor, output conveyor, and knife assembly with a blade between the input and output conveyors all reciprocate back and forth as a blade moves perpendicular to the conveyors to cut portioned sized of product, such as ground meat. The cut cycle allows the product feed to keep moving in a continuous manner on conveyors. For ground meat, this system can allow production rates of 150 pieces or more per minute per conveyor line and can improve the accuracy of portioning. The blade is actuated by a profiled cam set that pulls the blade down, and then returns it with a spring to an upper position. The knife assembly can accelerate just after cutting to reduce the potential for sticking to the cut product.
