  • Patent number: 4592114
Abstract: A drafting roller arrangement for spinning machines is disclosed having at least three pairs of rollers forming successive drafting zones in the conveying direction of the sliver and having a sliver stopping device assigned to the first pair of rollers that can be triggered by a disturbance. In front of the last drafting zone, a sliver condenser having guide surfaces narrowingly tapering in the conveying direction of the sliver is arranged. The sliver condenser is provided with a threading slot extending in the conveying direction of the sliver and is held by means of a holding device in such a way that it can be moved out of the drafting zone transversely to the conveying direction toward the side facing away from the threading slot. This arrangement accommodates restarting of the drafting arrangement without the sliver condenser interfering with the sliver supplied to the last drafting zone.

  • Patent number: 4547936
Abstract: The drawing apparatus for textile fibre webs comprises a series of pairs of olls, the peripheral velocity of the rolls of each pair being greater than the peripheral velocity of the preceding pair in the direction of advance of the web. Each roll has a resilient covering constituted by highly flexible steel wires that extend substantially radially. A smaller-diameter smooth roller is interposed between each pair of covered rolls and the following pair, the smaller diameter roller having a peripheral velocity equal to that of the following pair. The disposition of the smooth rollers is such as to impart a sinuous course to the web and keep the web in engagement with the metal wires of the covered rolls over substantial arcs. The drawing apparatus achieves higher drawing ratios with a good quality of the drawn web using a smaller number of pairs of rolls.

  • Patent number: 4539729
Abstract: Fiber slivers must be condensed during the course of a spinning process or their mass must be determined. For this purpose there are employed so-called grooved pairs of rollers, that is to say, profiled rolls which define a sliver throughput groove which is limited or confined at both sides. The sliver is guided through a feed or delivery funnel up to the throughput groove. The danger thus exists that individual fibers can jam between the side surfaces or faces of the rollers which form the lateral boundaries of the groove. This danger is eliminated with the invention in that the fiber outlet opening of the feed funnel is located within the region of a wedge-shaped gap which is bounded by an overlapping zone of the side surfaces or faces of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4489461
Abstract: A novel fiber drafting system is disclosed, according to which fibers of sliver supplied continuously are passed through a first pair of rotatable cooperating rollers while being pressed and compacted into a reduced section by and between a space formed by a groove and a projection formed respectively in and on the circumferential peripheries of the rollers of said first pair. The sliver thus compacted is then transferred to and held by and between a second pair of rollers rotated at a higher peripheral speed than the first pair of rollers, whereby the fibers of sliver are drafted successively between the two pairs of rollers without use of conventional aprons for guiding and supporting the fibers in the drafting zone.

Between the motor (M) and the main shaft (H) are arranged a belt adjusting gear mechanism (V and HO) and a clutch (K). The transmission ratio of the adjusting gear (V and HO) is automatically gradually reduced from a maximum value to the operating value, so that the main shaft (H) is smoothly accelerated.Cut-off devices are provided for automatically stopping the frame when a disturbance of any kind occurs. The cut-off devices switch off the electric motor (M), release the clutch (K) and actuate a brake (B) which acts upon the main shaft (H), and also an adjusting member of an adjustable disc (V) of the belt-adjusting gear (V and HO). The brake (B) can be relatively small, as it does not have to decelerate the uncoupled motor (M).

  • Patent number: 4461058
Abstract: A drawing frame with a drawing region or with two independent drawing regions includes, as a whole, four or more so-called drawing and control rollers. These latter all comprise pressure rollers with barrel rubbers. The control roller situated immediately upstream of the draw-off or "total" drawing roller is arranged in such a position that its periphery is separated from that of the drawing roller by a narrow gap. The ratios between the diameters and the speeds of rotation of these rollers is selected in such a way that the peripheral velocity of the "total" drawing roller is significantly greater than the peripheral velocity of the adjacent control roller. Consequently, an upwardly directed flow of air is created which removes the floating fibres which would otherwise tend to form windings or so-called "rolls".

The objective for a drafting arrangement, which can be adapted to a wide range of staple lengths, to draft a fiber sliver at high speeds, has led to the following features of the invention:(a) The fiber sliver is deflected simultaneously in the drafting process systematically in such a manner that, the fiber sliver can be inserted into the subsequently arranged funnel and the subsequently arranged pair of calender rolls without further deflection.(b) All bottom rolls are fixedly arranged.(c) The first pressure rolls limiting the pre-drafting zone and the main drafting zone, respectively, are arranged to be shiftable along an arc about the rotational axis of the corresponding bottom roll in such a manner that the drafting zones are adaptable to the fiber length.

  • Patent number: 4389751
Abstract: The present invention concerns an apparatus for severing a fibre layer (3) composed of mutually slidable staple fibres, and containing two driven pairs of rolls (9/10; 11/12) forming two nip lines for the fibre layer (3) guided therebetween. Severing is achieved in that the two pairs of rolls (9/10; 11/12) are kinematically coupled using a flexible power transmitting element (19) in such a manner that by moving a roll tandem (26) contained in the path of movement of the power transmitting element (19) one pair of rolls (11/12) is rotated relative to the other one (9/10). Owing to this relative rotation of the pairs of rolls the fibre layer clamped between the nip lines is severed. This apparatus presents the advantage that its design is simple and reliable and that, in particular, no clutch is required.

  • Patent number: 4030165
Abstract: A series of roller pairs in the drafting zone of sliver drafting apparatus have toothed or needlelike projections. The projections are spaced circumferentially and axially of the rollers so that projections of cooperating rollers either within a pair or between rollers of adjacent pairs are periodically interdigitated, as seen axially of the rollers, in spaced relationship as the rollers rotate at constant angular velocity. The rollers carry toothed wheels engageable for positive drive without backlash by a toothed belt. The upper rollers of the pairs are driven by a common endless loop belt and the lower rollers by a second belt. Each belt passes over a spring-loaded jockey roller which tensions the belt and which can be moved against the spring force in response to overloading tension on the belt caused by retardation of roller rotation in response to excessive fibres between a roller pair. Such movement of the jockey roller actuates a limit switch to shut off the belt drive motor.
