Abstract: A container, a lid, a combination of the two, and a method of using the same is disclosed. The container has a base and a sidewall extending upward from the base forming a continuous sidewall around the base. The upper portion of the sidewall has a rim and a skirt around the perimeter. The skirt has a removable tear tab to allow access to a lid for removing the lid from the container. The lid also has vents for air to exit the container, thereby preventing rising of the lid in low pressure areas. The vents further prevent entry of air into the container when the sealed container is taken to areas of higher pressure. A method of filling the container leaving an air gap between the product and the lid and utilizing the aforementioned vents is also provided.

Abstract: There is disclosed a container for receiving and sealing material in an internal cavity. The container is configured to be shiftable about an intermediate hinge portion and provides a dispensation port defined by a frangible connected panel of the container. The panel can be reclosed after initial severing of the frangible connection upon initial opening.

Abstract: The invention relates to a packaged product (3) or group (19) of products, such as a candy, wherein said product or group of products (3) has an elongated form, wherein the package comprises at least one film (1, 2) which encloses said product or group of products, and wherein part of said film extends from at least one outer end of the product or group of products, and wherein said part of the film is bent away from the direction of the axis of the elongated product or group of products back towards a part of the film that surrounds the product and is bonded therewith. The invention also relates to an easy opening arrangement for packaged products, and to an array or bandoleer (19) of products with reduced packaging material.

Abstract: A tamper evident closure (TEC) includes a closure cap and at least one tamper evident ring forming a recessed space therein. The ring has a body attached by at least one frangible bridge member to the cap. The ring includes at least one protrusion member spaced there around such that the protrusion members are formed by being stamped to protrude into the recessed space. There is also a related protrusion member forming apparatus. The apparatus includes a base end and a forming end. The forming end includes shaped protuberances which during use cause a stamping or deforming action with respect to a holding action on an inner ring member and outer ring member of a tamper evident ring of a tamper evident closure, to form the protrusion members in the inner ring member. There is also a method of manufacture of a tamper evident closure (TEC).

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a device for sealing a container, and serves to alleviate disadvantages commonly associated with use of plastic wrap, cling wrap, and similar products. The device generally comprises a flexible sheet and sometimes a perimeter support member connected to the flexible sheet. The flexible sheet is positioned over and seals the opening of the container. The perimeter support member is then removed from the flexible sheet so that the support member does not interfere with use of the container. The flexible sheet may be comprised of more than one material, permitting the flexible sheet to adhere to the container while being compatible with the contents of the container. The device may also comprise a mechanical sealing mechanism, as well as an internal support structure. The device may be folded for storage and other purposes. The invention also includes methods of using and manufacturing the device.

Abstract: A container fracturable along a break path having a generally constant wall thickness about the break path is disclosed. In order to provide a specific break path without reducing the structural integrity of the container, the body of the container is configured to concentrate stress along the break path.

Abstract: The present invention provides an enhanced water product, wherein a solid dosage product is conveyed with a bottle of water in an attached dosage cup. The attachment is achieved with a novel frangible feature that flexes out of the way during a simplified snap-on assembly. The feature breaks away when any attempt is made to separate the dosage cup from bottle, thus rendering the product safe from malicious tampering. In an alternate embodiment, the dosage cup is used to measure any liquid product.

Abstract: The plastic container has a lid and a receptacle, the receptacle and lid having corresponding engagement portions matingly shaped for the lid and receptacle to be maintained in a closed configuration by a resilient effect. In one embodiment, the lid has a handle lip extending vertically downwardly from a horizontal edge of the lid, the handle lip being shaped to allow over-coming the resilient effect when manually pulled upwardly; the receptacle having a barrier strip covering the handle lip and pre-venting manual pulling access thereto, but being tearable to allow its manual removal. In an other embodiment, the receptacle has an upwardly protruding receptacle rib providing sealing abutment support to the lid closure, a gutter surrounding the receptacle rib, and the receptacle wall portion has an engagement portion matingly shaped to resiliently receive the outwardly protruding rib of the lid and inclined so as to face both inwardly and downwardly.

Abstract: A packaging container has an upper top member and a lower bottom member, and at least one cooperating locking means. Each locking means comprises an upstanding post and a cooperating opening or recess formed in extending lips of the top and bottom members. A weakened fault zone is formed in the immediate region of each post, or of each cooperating opening or recess, and circumscribes the same. The packaging container is locked in its closed position after it has been filled, by crimping the end of each post in an axial direction so as to mechanically deform the post. Any attempt to disengage a crimped post will result in failure of the respective weakened fault zone and may be construed as tampering, and thus the damaged material of the package in the region of the failed fault zone is evidence of tampering.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure involve a pill-filtering article that is located and secured inside a pill container. Using one system, an assembly of articles distributes one pill at a time in the form of a single-pill dispensing apparatus that includes a pill-storage container and such a pill-filtering article. The container has an inner wall, an upper portion with a rim region where a cap may be secured, and a lower portion for containing pills. The pill-filtering article has a size and a shape that facilitates securing the article inside the pill-storage container near the inner wall, above the lower portion, and below the upper rim region, and also configured with a plurality of channel-defining regions including a first channel-defining region through which one-pill at a time passes and including a second channel-defining region through which one pill at a time passes.

Abstract: A catheter product package and method of forming same in which the package comprises a sheet material wrapped about the catheter product to form a package for the catheter product. The catheter product extends generally longitudinally within the package, and the sheet material extends from a point beyond the proximal end to a point beyond the distal end of the catheter product. The sheet material of the package is wrapped about the catheter product in a mariner defining confronting proximal end edges, confronting distal end edges, and confronting side edges. The confronting proximal end edges, distal end edges and side edges of the sheet material are joined by a seal after the sheet material is wrapped about the catheter product to define a sealed cavity. The sheet material has a tear strip affixed to it which causes the sheet material to tear along the tear strip to thereby cause the package to open along an intended opening line.

Abstract: An easy-open metal end and a method for making same, in which a pre-score coining operation is performed, followed by an operation to form a score line. The coining step uses gentle-radius tooling designed not to crack or cut a protective coating on the metal end. Between the coining step and the score line-forming step, a paneling step is performed to pull out the loose metal generated in the coining step, such that end tension can be controlled more easily than in a conventional process. The coining operation thins the metal, so the score line can have less penetration than, and therefore can be narrower than, a conventional score line. Consequently, even if the score line does rust, it will be very small in width and thus relatively unnoticeable.

Abstract: A beverage container with a tamper resistant lid includes a cylindrical reservoir with an open upper end in communication with an interior beverage compartment. Formed about the open upper end is an annular rim. The tamper resistant lid includes a circular panel with an annular lip depending therefrom. Positioned on the inwardly facing surface of the lip are a plurality of juxtaposed, inwardly-extending flanges. The flanges are flexible but resilient such that, when the lid is pressed onto the open upper end of the container, the flanges initially expand to circumvent the rim, and subsequently contract to grip the lower surface thereof to retain the lid on the container. The lid includes any one of a plurality of secure dispensing means to dispense a beverage from the beverage compartment.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a closure may include a base attachable to a container. The closure may further include an engagement insert receivable in the base. The engagement insert may include screw thread formations for engaging corresponding formations on a container neck. The base and insert may together form a co-operating uni-directional rotation arrangement which prevents rotation in a direction of screwing onto a container neck but allows relative rotation in a direction of unscrewing, whereby to prevent unscrewing of the closure. In various embodiments, a closure for a container may include a top deck, an outer skirt and an inner skirt. The inner skirt may be engagable with a container neck. The inner skirt and/or top deck may comprise one or more regions of weakness arranged to break and/or deform if an attempt is made to remove the closure from a neck following first application, whereby to prevent re-application.

Abstract: A closure includes a body adapted to mount on a container having a discharge outlet and a cap configured to move relative to the body from a closed position covering the discharge outlet to an opened position uncovering the discharge outlet. The closure also includes frangible links coupled to the body and cap that break in response to first-time movement of the cap from the closed position to the opened position to alert an observer that the cap has been opened once before.

Abstract: A cap seal and a doubly-sealing apparatus of a container such as a drum using the same, which execute a reliable sealing function of a cap part of the container such as the drum. Double sealing of the cap part of the container such as the drum due to the cap seal is fully performed despite various errors such as the difference in the curling external diameter of the cap part of the container.

Abstract: A self-locking package comprising a sleeve having a self-initializing locking tab and a slidable insert. The sleeve comprises a plurality of panels forming a substantially quadrilateral cross section. The locking tab extends between a top panel and a bottom panel and is offset from corners of the qudralateral. An insert for retaining an item is at least partially insertable within an opening of the sleeve and includes a notch formed in at least one portion of the perimeter of the insert, such that when the insert is properly inserted into the sleeve, the locking tab seats within the notch to substantially prevent relative movement between the insert and the sleeve.

Abstract: Described is a closure adapted to be fit on top of containers such as bottles. In various embodiments, the closure may include an outer skirt and an inner skirt. The closure may be engageable with a container neck. In some embodiments, a region of weakness may be adapted to break and/or deform upon an attempt to remove the closure from the container neck. In some embodiments, after the break and/or deformation, the closure may no longer be engageable with the container neck.

Abstract: A container for condiments includes a container portion having generally planar bottom, a generally parallel flange, and defining a cavity having a discharge spout adjacent the parallel flange. The container further includes a generally planar cover portion fashioned from a material more flexible that the material of the container portion and secured to the flange by an adhesive. The container preferably includes a weakened region transversely aligned with the spout but not having fluid communication therewith. Moreover, the container preferably includes a peel initiating structure aligned with the spout but spaced therefrom effective to reduce the peeling force required to separate the cover portion from the container portion.

Abstract: A bottle closure includes the unitarily-molded combination of: an internally-threaded sidewall; a tamper indicator ring; and a hinge connecting the ring to the sidewall. The hinge permits the ring to be shifted from an initial position to an installation position. The installation position is essentially coaxially aligned with the sidewall.

Abstract: A packaging container made of plastic has a fixed wall part (W1), produced by injection molding, and a detachable wall part (W2), which are connected by a predetermined breaking zone (20). The predetermined breaking zone (20) is covered by a barrier layer (24) which provides enhanced barrier action against gases, water vapor or solvent. The barrier layer (24) reduces the permeability of the predetermined breaking zone (20).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a front sheet for packaging, the front sheet comprising a laminate of an inner layer and an outer layer relative to the interior of the packaging. The inner layer incorporates a removable strip having longitudinal edges abutting adjacent panels of the inner layer. Removal of the removable strip forms an opening through the inner and outer layers of the front sheet. An overlay sheet overlays and is substantially in contact with the removable strip. An improved product can thereby be produced. The invention also relates to containers and bags formed using a front sheet as described, and methods of manufacturing and filling and sealing such containers and bags.

Abstract: The invention relates to a package suitable for containing a perishable product, comprising a first shell element provided with an upright circumferential edge and a central portion for accommodating said perishable product, as well as a closure element provided with a circumferential edge which closure element is placed with its circumferential edge on the upright circumferential edge of said first shell element in an adhering and closing manner and wherein said closure element is provided at its circumferential edge with a protruding lip, which lip does not adhere to the circumferential edge of said first shell element, for the purpose of peeling off said closure element from said first element. Abstract: A resealable closure for a container in which package integrity is indicated by a structure which breaks and/or produces an audible sound when the resealable closure is opened for a first time. The package integrity feature, in one form includes at least one strip initially affixed to two portions which comprise the resealable closure so that upon opening the resealable closure for a first time, at least one of the strips breaks, thereby producing the audible sound. The strips may include a weakened portion such as a narrowing. Integrity of the package is indicated by an intact strip viewable upon opening the resealable closure and conversely, a broken or non-intact strip would indicate that the resealable closure has been previously opened. Package integrity may also be shown by a movable second panel or movable die cut tab portions.

Abstract: A flexible packaging laminate formed by an outer structure joined to an inner structure. Score lines are formed in both structures to form a flap that is lifted to open the package. The score line through the outer structure defines a larger opening than the score line through the inner structure, such that a marginal region of the outer structure extends beyond the edge of the opening portion of the inner structure. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used to re-adhere the marginal region to an underlying surface of the inner structure adjacent the opening through the laminate. The outer score line includes at least one tab having one end integrally joined to an outer edge of the flap and an opposite end anchored to a portion of the outer structure spaced from the outer edge, the tab being torn through upon initial creation of the opening through the flexible packaging laminate.

Abstract: A container having provisions that indicate tampering or previous attempts in opening the container is described. The container includes a peel tab for opening the container to thereby gain access to the container interior and contents therein. The container further includes pull tab provisions which must be at least partially separated from a container substrate, in order to gain access to the peel tab. Separation of the pull tab provisions provides indication of tampering or prior opening attempts. Related methods of providing such indication are also described.

Abstract: A pierceable cap maybe used for containing sample specimens during storage and transport. The pierceable cap may prevent unwanted escape of sample specimen before transfer with a transfer device. The pierceable cap may fit over a vessel. An access port in the pierceable cap may allow passage of a tip of a transfer device though the pierceable cap. Multiple frangible layers maybe disposed across the access port. One or more extensions proximate to a lower frangible layer may rotate around one or more coupling regions during insertion of the transfer device. The movement of the one or more extensions may pierce the lower frangible layer to create airways and allow air to escape from a vessel at a reduced velocity. Upper frangible layers may prevent escape of materials from spaces intermediate between the lower frangible layer and the upper frangible layers.

Abstract: A pierceable cap may be used for containing sample specimens during storage and transport. The pierceable cap may prevent unwanted escape of sample specimen before transfer with a transfer device. The pierceable cap may fit over a vessel. An access port in the pierceable cap may allow passage of a tip of a transfer device though the pierceable cap. A frangible layer may be disposed across the access port. One or more extensions proximate to the frangible layer may be coupled to the pierceable cap by coupling regions or other similar devices. The one or more extension may rotate around the one or more coupling regions during insertion of the transfer device. The movement of the one or more extensions may pierce the frangible layer to create airways and allow air to escape from a vessel at a reduced velocity.

Abstract: A synthetic resin cap includes a top wall, a skirt wall, and a tamper evidence band connected to the skirt wall with bridges interposed therebetween. An inner face of the top wall includes an annular inner leg, an annular projection, and an annular outer leg. An intermediate part of the inner leg has a substantially constant transverse thickness in a vertical direction. Inner and outer circumferential faces of the intermediate part have substantially the same curvature of longitudinal section and are arcuate and convex inwardly in a radial direction, and an outer circumferential face of a distal end part of the inner leg has a guide face that guides the container mouth part, and the intermediate part is inclined radially outwardly so that an upper end of the guide face is shifted radially inwardly by 0.1 to 0.6 mm when the inner leg is inserted in the container mouth part.

Abstract: Disclosed is a multilayer structure that comprises a heat sealable layer comprising amorphous polyethylene terephthalate with a melting point greater than 200° C., a pressure sensitive adhesive and at least one tie layer encapsulating the pressure sensitive adhesive. The structure can be coextruded without degrading the pressure sensitive adhesive. Also disclosed is a reclosable package comprising the structure and methods to make such structures.

Abstract: A food container formed of a single sheet of plastic, which includes a cup (12), a cover (16) that is movable between open and closed positions on the cup top, and a container (20,22) that is movable between a stowed position in the cup and an unstowed position out of the cup. The cup has a cup flange (34) and the container has a container flange (60) that is pivotally connected to the cup flange along a pivot line (64) that can be torn to separate the container from the cup. The cover is pivotally connected to the cup top at the cover flange, and the container has a lift tab (220) that lies on the cover flange. The container has a side wall that forms a vertical channel (190) on its outside for passing a straw into liquid in the cup.

The one or more integrated dispensing feature(s) or element(s) are initially covered on both sides to be exposed for use upon removal of a portion of the sealing member.

Abstract: A tamper-evident container having a tamper-evident structure that indicates to a user when the container has been previously opened or otherwise tampered with. The container can include a body and a lid, where the lid is snap fit into a recess of the body. Based on the snap-fit, the lid is difficult or impossible to remove from the body without activating the tamper-evident structure. The tamper-evident structure can remain at least partially attached to the lid or body to thereby indicate to a user that the container has been opened or otherwise tampered with.

Abstract: The tamper evident cap assembly is structured for protective connection to a syringe of the type having a nozzle and a discharge port, wherein the cap assembly includes a body configured to receive and access to the nozzle. A flow restricting member is connected to the body to at least initially define a one piece construction. The flow restricting member is disposed in flow restricting relation to the discharge port of the nozzle. An attachment assembly interconnects the body and the flow restricting member and is structured, such as by being frangible to facilitate detachment of the body from the flow restricting member upon the body being removed from the syringe. A connecting assembly is structured for a snap-fit connection to the nozzle and retains the flow restricting member thereon upon removal of the body from the syringe.

Abstract: An on-demand drinking adapter for use with a beverage container is disclosed. The adapter includes a base with an upper surface and generally cylindrical sides which extend below the upper surface. The cylindrical sides are adapted for temporarily fastening the adapter to a mouth of a beverage container. The adapter also includes a spout with a vertically extending surface, a second surface, and an on-demand drinking aperture. The spout extends above the upper surface and the vertically extending surface is curved and coextensive with a portion of the cylindrical sides.

Abstract: A server lid for a container with an integral tear strip tamper evident feature is presented. A tear strip for the tamper evident feature is molded as an adjunct to a base member which forms the closure. The tear strip is joined to the base by at least one frangible web, and hinges about the frangible web to overlie front edges of one or more flaps formed in the server lid. Ultrasonic welds connect the overlying tear strip to the flaps or adjacent the flaps for providing a tamper evident feature. The shape of the server lid provides stackability in that the base rim of the container will fit over the upper portion of the lid, including frangible webs to allow interfitting of one container bottom with the container closure of the next, to allow the containers to be stacked on a shelf without substantial danger of slipping or tipping.

Abstract: A molded plastic container/closure combination providing a tamper evident feature, a child resistant feature and a removal facilitation feature. The closure has radially extending bayonets extending from the outer skirt which fit into horizontal slots in a beam molded integrally with the sidewall of the container. Rotation of the closure in one direction brings the bayonets into the slots for locking purposes. Rotation in the opposite direction unlocks the closure and continued rotation lifts the closure relative to the container to facilitate removal. A resiliently mounted release tab must be depressed before unlocking rotation is permitted. A latch prevents depression of the release tab until anchors on the sides of the latch are fractured. Serrations acting between the tab and the bayonets provide an audible indication of rotation.

Abstract: A package has generally congruent front and back panels having upper and lower edges and first and second side edges extending vertically between the upper and lower edges. The upper, side, and bottom edges of each panel are connected to the upper, side, and bottom edges of the other panel. The panels are formed with a first weakened tear line extending continuously from the connected first side edges to the connected upper edges and with a second weakened tear line extending continuously below the upper edges between the connected first and second side.

Abstract: An opening device for a packaging container comprises two operational parts: a membrane part ensuring a secure seal of the packaging container and a support part ensuring rigidity for the opening device. The opening device is characterized in that a membrane portion of the membrane part is mechanically attached to the support part to operate as one piece during opening of the packaging container, and the materials of the membrane part and the support part are thermally incompatible.
