Abstract: A vacuum pack food container is closed by releasable and reclosable sheet metal closure having a center portion defining an annular recess around an upwardly projecting integral vacuum release button with an undercut wall partially surrounded by a score line smaller than the button. The sealant material is confined within the button and has an outwardly projecting flange releasably bonded to the closure under the score line. Depressing the button peels the sealant flange from the closure to define a vacuum release passage which closes and seals when the pressure on the button is released. A peripheral skirt portion on the closure has inwardly projecting bosses which cooperate with cam surfaces on the bottom of a curled rim portion of a sheet metal container to provide a twist-on twist-off closure.

Abstract: A two-piece, connectable article comprises a first piece and a second piece which fit together in a connected position. One of the first and second pieces has a plurality of integral, extending members having free ends that each define a latch member. The other of the first and second pieces has a facing wall that defines a plurality of apertures positioned to receive the free ends of the extending members in the connected position. The apertures are sized to cause flexing of the latch members as the latch members are placed through the apertures to assume the connected position. The extending members and facing wall are proportioned to permit the latch members to spring back to an original position in the connected position, to effectively prevent separation of the first and second pieces until at least some of the extending members are broken away.

Abstract: The rectangular reclosable container assembly includes a rectangular open ended container and a closure member for closing the container. The closure member is depressed to engage the inner surface of the container walls, and the container walls and the depressed wall engaging portions of the closure member are provided with cooperating projecting beads and slots which terminate in spaced relationship to the corners of the container and closure member to vent air at the corners of the assembly. The closure member has a tear away skirt which extends from a bridging section which spaces the skirt from the depressed wall engaging portions of the closure member. An upwardly projecting stacking ridge is formed on the closure member to engage the skirt of like closure members and to receive and retain the sidewalls of the container at the bottom thereof to facilitate stacking.

Abstract: A fuel cap structure which enables part of a flange member to be readily broken when an external force is applied via a cover member in any direction. A fuel cap includes a casing body and a cover member attached to the flange member formed on the upper portion of the casing body. The flange member includes a joint member to join the upper portion of the casing body with an outer ring member, in which the cover member is fitted. The joint member has fragile portions including notches. Each fragile portion starts a break of the joint member when an external force is applied to the flange member via the cover member in a variety of directions.

Abstract: The package includes a container and a lid therefor, both made of a thermal insulating foam material. The container has a line of weakening extending across the bottom wall and the side wall of the container to permit breaking of the latter into two parts across the cavity. The line of weakening is disposed in a plane which is normal to the bottom wall and which is located in the area of maximum width of the cavity. The container serves as a mould for a flowable settable food product which, once set, is readily available for eating by breaking the container across the cavity. The food product is normally ice cream and a release film surrounds the same within the cavity. One or more cavities may be provided in the same container. The lid seals each cavity independently of the others.

Abstract: A closure provides a well in which a game piece is placed. The well has a side wall which supports a well floor. The well floor can contain an opening which can accommodate a drinking straw. A shield is located between the game piece and the well floor. The recessed well is covered by a sealing member which is adhered to an upper surface of the closure. The sealing member can have a pull tab and perforations which can be aligned with the edges of the pull tab. The perforations define a flap. The flap can be coupled to the closure through the use of a mounting flange.

Abstract: Plastic bucket provided with a lid, the bucket having a single upper edge, a circumferential rib, and a depending edge connecting to the circumferential rib, the circumferential rib and the depending edge having such a profile that in sealed condition gripping the free lower edge of the lid is impossible. After removal of the sealing lip, gripping the free lower edge of the lid at the sealing position is possible in that the shape of the circumferential rib, and the depending edge connecting thereto, at the sealing position deviates from the shape thereof at the other circumferential positions, this deviating shape, however, in each case being such that the circumferential rib, throughout the circumference and hence also at the sealing position, extends adjacent to the upper edge of the bucket, so that the stiffness of the bucket is substantially the same throughout the circumference thereof.

Abstract: A gas delivery system includes a capsule for storing a propellant fluid, e.g. helium under pressure, e.g. between about 60 and 80 bar. The capsule is provided with a stopper having a stem formed with a frangible section. In use, mechanical means is employed to rupture the stem about the frangible section to release the fluid under high pressure.

The dispensing cover having a lid with a through hole to allow passage of a food product from within the container as the dispensing cover is pushed into the container. A closure element is removably attached with respect to the lid so that in a closed position the closure element covers the through hole and in an open position the closure element exposes the through hole. A flexible gasket portion that is mateable with a sidewall of the container is formed around the perimeter of the lid. A rim that is engageable with an upper portion of the sidewall is positioned about a periphery of the lid and removably attached with respect to the lid.

Abstract: A multi-media shipping container, such as a compact disc or video cassette container, having a base and a lid hingedly connected by a hinge assembly and movable between open and closed positions, whereby the shipping container includes a tear away latching mechanism which when torn away provides a storage container. The latching mechanism is mounted on the container and includes a pair of flexible flaps or strips which are hingedly connected to the base and lid by reduced thickness living hinges. The flaps overlap one another and interengage one another to thereby lock the base and lid together in a tamper proof and pry-resistant manner. The flaps are grasped and pulled outwardly and along the front of the container by a user thereby tearing them away. The reduced thickness living hinges are torn from the container leaving a usual compact disc or VHS video cassette storage container.

Abstract: A metal easy open can lid, and a process for producing the same, wherein the can openability is improved and the occurrence of defects in the resin film at the time of shaping is eliminated whereby repair coating of the inner and outer surfaces are made unnecessary by making the cross-sectional shape of the opening guide groove of the easy open can lid an S-shape are provided, wherein, when forming the opening piece for easy manual opening in the metal lid, the properties of the resin film on the metal sheet, the shape and dimensions of the shoulder portions of the punch and die, the clearance, the residual thickness of the opening guide groove, the degree of the push-back processing, etc. are specified so as to achieve a superior can openability without breakage of the resin film by forming an opening guide groove with an S-shaped cross-section.

Abstract: A clamshell container for food is formed of a single sheet of thermoplastic material thermoformed to have a concave base with an upwardly extending sidewall with an outwardly extending peripheral flange. A hinge attachment segment extends outwardly from the base flange, and a lid is connected to the hinge attachment segment along an integral hinge which allows pivoting of the lid to cover and uncover the base. Intermittent perforations in the plastic define a line of weakened material between the base flange and the hinge attachment segment. A tab extends from the hinge attachment segment. Pulling on the tab causes the hinge attachment segment to separate from the base flange along the line of weakened material, to thereby remove the lid from the base, leaving a dining dish which has insubstantial indications of its former connection to a lid, thereby better simulating conventional dinnerware.

Abstract: A closure is provided for a container. The closure has a body and a lid. The closure includes a tamper-indicating member connected to the body of the closure by an anchor member received in an anchor member-receiving aperture defined in the closure body. The tamper-indicating member is also connected along a frangible junction to the lid of the closure. A plug member extends from the tamper-indicating member and is receivable in a plug member-receiving aperture defined in the body. When the tamper-indicating member is depressed to force the plug member into the plug member-receiving aperture, the frangible junction is broken, and the tamper-indicating member is retained in its depressed position. This provides an indication that the closure may have been previously opened. Also, an overhanging portion of the lid can be readily engaged by a finger to facilitate opening of the lid relative to the body of the closure.

Abstract: A tamper-evident closure for a container is provided. The container is formed with means at its open upper end for making a snap fit locking connection with a cover. The container has a peripheral flange with a skirt section that surrounds and is spaced radially from the container's side wall, and the cover has a depending skirt that extends down around the upper end of the container and has a free bottom edge that lies immediately adjacent to the flange. The flange has an outer surface that is flush with the adjacent portion of the outer surface of the skirt, so that essentially the flange appear to be a continuation of the skirt. As a consequence the closure formed by the cover (lid) and the container is resistant to opening by a small child.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for packaging and applying a liquid or semiliquid product, in particular for hair care, the device comprising a receptacle suitable for containing said product and an applicator in the form of a comb having hollow teeth for dispensing the product. The said applicator is fixed ab initio to the receptacle and the teeth of said applicator are closed prior to use in the case of one of the teeth by an individual snap-off portion and in the case of the other teeth by a common snap-off portion.

Abstract: A capsule for storing a propellant fluid, for example, helium under pressure comprises a hollow body which includes a frangible area. An anchor member attaches an arm to the frangible area such that when a force is applied to the arm, said force together with the helium under pressure will cause the frangible area to rupture outwardly of the hollow body thereby to release the helium.

Abstract: A plastic container lid is adapted for openable attachment to a container. The lid comprises a main lid member having a peripheral, annular outer first wall. The lid also comprises an outer ring member carried on the annular outer wall of the main lid member in sealed but separable relation. The outer ring defines second and third spaced walls to form an annular space which receives the annular lip of a container in locking relation therewith. The main lid member is removable from and reattachable to the outer ring member by the user while carried on the annular container lip. Thus, the outer ring member effectively becomes part of the container, being attached by a permanent snap-fit connection, to improve the hoop strength of the container along with other advantages as described herein.

Abstract: The plastic snap closure possesses a snapping means (3) on the inside surface of the cap wall (2), said snapping means being able to be snapped over a bead on the container mouth. In order to display initial opening of the closure, approximately vertical weakened zones (4) are provided on the lower edge of the closure cap. The cap wall (2) will tear on initial opening of the snap closure in the area of at least one of these weakened zones (4).

Abstract: Package with safety lid and seal including a cylindrical body with a lid coupled by a thread at the mouth thereof and which includes an outside coaxial skirt having projections on its inside face. It is characterized in that the package body comprises around the body a seal made up with a strap weakly joined to this body, this strap having on the periphery, at least, one recess into which the corresponding projection of the skirt of the lid is fitted, preventing in this way the unscrewing of the lid. One of the ends of the sealing strap includes a handlelike extension facilitating through pulling, the tearing off and separation of the sealing strap with respect to the package body.

Abstract: A method of seal locking together a preformed plastic molded top lid portion of a gas filler cap to a preformed plastic molded threaded base portion of a gas filler cap. The preformed top lid portion of the gas cap is locked to a stationary preformed threaded base portion of a gas filler cap by spin welding a lower extending tab of the top lid portion into a mating channel in the base portion together. The tab can be a circular rectangular tab having a step down inner edge and an indentation cutout on the lower surface of the lid portion between the tab and an exterior side wall of the lid portion, wherein the indentation cut-out provides a sacrificial break point upon impact and allows the exterior side wall of the top lid portion to break-off without breaking the locking seal between the tab and the channel for reasons of safety upon impact. The channel can be a circular with an angled inner wall.

Abstract: A container lid includes a flap region that is selectively displaceable between a static raised position and a static depressed position. A flap is cut out of the flap region and is substantially integral with the flap region when the flap region is in the static raised position. When the flap region is displaced to the static depressed position, the flap separates from the flap region enabling liquid to flow therethrough. When the flap region is returned to the static raised position, the flap is again substantially integral with the flap region to thereby close the lid and prevent liquid from escaping. A knob is provided preferably integral with the flap region to facilitate displacement of the flap region.

Abstract: Plastics material packaging includes a receptacle having a bottom and a sidewall which present an annular rim around its edge remote from the bottom, said rim providing an area for sealing a closure membrane, and the packaging further includes a cover applied to the receptacle over said membrane which it encloses. The cover is secured to the receptacle by a permanent connection that can be disconnected when the packaging is opened only by being broken, which connection is advantageously constituted by a discrete number of breakable tampering indicators. The invention also provides a method of manufacturing such packaging for long-term storage of food.

Abstract: A reclosable package having visible evidence of tampering, where the package has a first portion, a second portion joined to the first portion along a common edge by a hinge integral to the first and second portions and thereby forming the package, and closure portions for locking the package, where the closure portions are removably connected to each of the first and second portions respectively. Abstract: A container comprising a main body portion having a top rim, at least one side wall and a bottom wall, and having a tamper evident connection with a lid. The tamper evident connection comprising a channel within a skirt projection outwardly from the side wall below the top rim, a gripping portion of the lid for receiving the top rim and thereby securing the lid to the container. The gripping portion having a distal end to be received within the channel, thereby rendering difficult access to the distal end. The skirt having a breakable and removable portion for facilitating access to the distal end of the gripping portion upon breaking the breakable and removable portion.

Abstract: A food product container having a body which comprises a central section, peripheral sections and, individual cavities to contain small portions of food product. Each cavity of the body overlaps the central section and one of the peripheral sections which are linked via a weakening line permitting detachment of the two sections. This detachment allows for the removal of a food portion in the cavity without altering the food portion in the adjacent cavities. The geometrical shape of the cavity makes it easy to remove the food product from the container especially when the weakening line is located at the maximal width of the geometrical shape.

Abstract: A system and method for sealing a windshield washer reservoir is illustrated comprising a one-piece molded cap and strap. The one-piece cap and strap comprises integrally molded and mating hinge members which facilitate hingeably mounting the cap onto the strap after they have been separated from each other. This facilitates providing a sealing system and method having some of the advantages of a one-piece molded construction, while at the same time permitting the user to experience the advantages of a two-piece hinge construction. In another embodiment, an integrally molded cam defining a cam surface and a mating engaging surface are provided which cooperate to not only separate the cap from the strap, but also to cause the pin associated with the cap to be guided into the socket such that when the cap is actuated from an open position to a closed position, the integrally molded cap and strap become separated and substantially simultaneously hingeably mounted together.

Abstract: A beverage container in the form of an aluminium can has a top plate in which a dispensing aperture is formed by pulling a tab so as to inwardly displace a tongue portion. A filtering means is resiliently mounted within the container so as to be deployed at a location traversing the dispensing aperture after the tongue portion has been inwardly displaced. The filtering means may be a perforate plate and may have perforations defining a competition visual indication whereby the token becomes visible only after the container is opened.

Abstract: An easy open end for food and beverage cans having reduced aluminum content is provided in an end having a metal polymer metal laminate construction. An opening panel as defined in the end body by a pair of first and second spaced apart score lines disposed in the first and second major surfaces, respectively. Each of the first and second score lines define an area of reduced thickness for both the metal layer and the adjacent polymer layer. The opening panel can be displaced from the remainder of the end body to provide an easy opening can by perforating the end body at a point along the first and second score lines.

Abstract: An end panel for a full-open end closure for a container comprising a rim portion, a removable central panel portion connected to the rim portion for detachment by an opening implement, an array of closely spaced push-in closure members dimensioned and spaced to receive the prongs of a standard domestic fork as the opening implement. The closure members are in a generally linear array adjacent the rim portion and the fork engages the openings defining the closure members and is levered against the rim to remove the central panel portion from the rim. Alternatively, the closure members are in a radial linear array extending towards the center of the central panel portion with the outermost closure member adjacent the rim portion so that the central panel portion can be conveniently levered from the rim portion without the need for a special opening implement.

Abstract: An end piece for a drawn and ironed container is disclosed. The end piece has a score which defines an openable section for accessing the contents of the container. The score includes at least one reservoir for post repair material which is deposited into the main portion of the score while the end piece is rotated. The reservoir functions to receive post repair material which is forced out of the main portion of the score during this rotation of the end piece and/or to actually generate forces which counteract the centrifugal forces exerted on the post repair material such that it is retained within the main portion of the score.

Abstract: A container (e.g., drawn and ironed) with modified end constructions is disclosed. In one embodiment, the end piece which is seamed onto the sidewall of the container body includes a push-down tab for opening the container. This tab includes at least one engagement section which is offset in relation to the center of the push-down tab and which is for interfacing with the consumer's finger (e.g., thumb) in a manner which facilitates a more effective opening of the push-down tab. The engagement section curves upwardly progressing toward the perimeter of the tab and therefore may be characterized as a generally ramped surface. In one embodiment, two such engagement sections are utilized and ramp upwardly in generally opposite directions. The integral end of the container body also includes a multi-stage center panel or dome for allowing stacking of filled containers.

Abstract: A tamper-evident thermoplastic fitment having a spout and a closure for said spout are welded to a polymer-coated paperboard container or to a flexible plastic container. The fitment and closure are initially molded simultaneously but with a substantial space between the two pans interconnected by an elongated runner which conducts molten plastic from the closure to the fitment. Upon retraction of the core of the mold, the closure is pulled into the spout until shoulders on the parts engage, whereupon the closure is stripped from the mold core. The runner comprises a tear tab which slides through an apertured space on the closure. When the parts engage tangs on the tear tab engage the space, making the assembly tamper-evident. The fitment has a flange which may be welded or otherwise secured to the container. The tab may be pulled by the consumer to open the container. The closure may be unscrewed from the spout or otherwise disengaged.

Abstract: A cover for a container is provided with primary and secondary detent means, the primary detent means being mounted on a tamper-evident tear strip and being removable with the tear strip as opening of the cover is desired. Secondary detent means is provided on detent tabs which remain operatively associated with the cover. The limited engagement of the detent tabs with the retaining means of the cover results in facile removal of the cover from operative engagement with the container and the reinstallation and the corresponding and facile reinstallation of the cover upon the container.

Abstract: A tamper-indicating, child resistant closure for a threaded bottle includes an inner cap and an outer driver telescoped over the inner cap. The inner cap includes a top wall having spaced apart upstanding ribs. The outer driver includes a top wall having a pair of top wall segments hinged for pivotal movement to, and being spaced apart from each other by a spacing rib also forming part of the top wall of the driver. Each of the top wall segments initially is secured to contiguous sections of the outer driver by frangible, tamper-indicating tabs, and the top wall segments are moved from a generally horizontal position to a generally vertical position after the tamper-indicating tabs have been broken to form a driving section in the top wall of the driver. This driving section then is directed into the space between the upstanding ribs associated with the top wall of the inner cap by moving the inner cap and outer driver axially toward each other.

Abstract: A dispensing closure lid having a tear-away tab for use with a container. The tab itself is configured with an outwardly extending grasping member. The pull tab is defined by a distinct sequence of slits and perforations. The slits have a greater length than the perforations. The specific sequence of slits and perforations facilitates removal of the tab from the container mouth and provides for a clean separation of the tab from the land surface of the container and the remaining lid without tearing into the lid.

Abstract: A can opener device, mounted on a can top, comprising a front portion, a top portion and a rear portion. The front portion having a pair of front portion tear edges, which can be severed by applying pressure. The rear portion having a u-bend where pressure is applied to sever the front portion tear edges. The top portion attached to the front portion and to the rear portion, the top portion in a plane above the can top, pressure applied to the top portion pushes the front portion into the can after the front portion tear edges are severed. The can top comprises a plurality of rings, each having a thin portion and a thick portion.

Abstract: A tamper-evident closure device (11) for a container (10) has a tear tab (17) which can be at least partially detached by tearing to leave an opening through which the contents of the container (10) can be removed. A roller (18) integral with one edge (17b) of the tab (17) has an operating member (19) for manually rotating the roller (18) back across the tab (17) from the one edge (17b) such that during such rotation the tab (17) is progressively torn away starting at the one edge (17b).

Abstract: A container and lid combination, typically thermoformed of plastic such as PVC, PS or PET wherein the lid is easily snapped closed onto the container, both initally and resealably, but cannot be removed therefrom without producing visible evidence thereof.

Abstract: A one-piece plastic closure for fastening on a container having a lower part with a top surface which forms a pouring opening, and a cap pivotably connected to the lower part by a hinge shaft. A security element is connected to the closure such that, during initial opening of the closure, the security element is transformed from a secured state to a visually recognizable state of use.

Abstract: A safety screw cap indicates prior opening of a container to protect consumers from prior contamination. The screw cap has an annular band encircling its lower end which is separated from the screw cap by a perforated line. The band is affixed to a fixing clement and the fixing element attached to the container when the screw cap is screwed in place. An unattached leader portion of the band can be lifted easily to peel the band from the container. As the band is peeled from the container, it is simultaneously tom from the screw cap at the perforations. Once the band is removed, the screw cap can be unscrewed and the container unsealed. Before peeling the band away, the screw cap cannot be unscrewed without causing obvious damage to the screw cap or band. In addition, the torque required to shear-separate the band from the fixing element, the fixing element from the container or the screw cap from the band is greater than that which can be applied easily by a normal adult.

Abstract: A polymeric electrical enclosure has an electrical access knockout having a plurality of concentric grooves integrally molded into a wall section of reduced thickness. A plurality of angularly spaced, frangible flow leaders all bridge the outermost groove, with a lesser number bridging the remaining concentric grooves to facilitate the flow of material during molding to the knockout segments defined by the grooves. The concentric grooves are progressively deeper from the outermost to the innermost to aid in selective removal of inner segments without fracture of the outer segments. A flow leader which bridges all the grooves becomes narrower at the inner grooves, as less material need flow through that section of the flow leader, and the narrower section fractures sooner, thus aiding in selective removal of the inner segments of the knockout.

Abstract: A closure unit for a container for storing and handling flowable products is made from at least two different thermoplastic materials, the different materials fulfilling different functions. A basic thermoplastic material (A.2) is used for sealing against the container (G.2), and an area made of another different thermoplastic material (B.2,C) is provided to fulfill additional sealing functions, to increase mechanical stability, to have a reduced permeability, and to provide increased elasticity for additional opening and closing and/or absorption characteristics. The push-in tab has its boundary formed by discontinuities in the closure wall and the discontinuities are hermetically closed with a sealant applied locally in an arcuate pattern by rotation of the closure relative to a sealant applicator. A hinge line of the push-in tab has a construction that improves hinge integrity.

Abstract: The present invention is directed at a lid for a cup. The lid comprising a disc having a periphery, a first face and a second face. The disc is corrugated to form a series of concentric, receiving channels having an opening and walls. The receiving channels are spaced apart so that both the first face and the second face can receive a cup wall of varying cup diameter. Additionally, the receiving channels have perforations to facilitate the removal of unused portions of the lid which extend radially outward from the cup wall. The lid has a tab which extends radially inward from the periphery of the disc and is formed by tab perforations on the disc. The tab hinges to the disc at a medial portion of the disc, and the tab can be opened by pivoting around the hinge and laying against the disc. Furthermore, the tab provides a starting point to tear along the perforations.

Abstract: A one-piece snap hinge closure of plastic having a lower part and an upper part connected with each other via a film hinge. The intactness of the closure is assured by a security band. The security band is injection-molded to the upper part via bars which are used as predetermined breaking points. A bar on the lower part is engaged with the security band. The bar on the lower part can be placed in such a way that in the security position of the closure it is attached behind a tab on the upper part.

Abstract: Disclosed is a closure for a container, the closure having a lid hinged to a base. The base of the closure has structure for locking the closure on a dispensing nozzle of the container. The closure has tamper evidence structure, to indicate whether the lid and base have been separated (that is, whether the closure has previously been opened). The tamper evidence structure includes a tear band; the closure cannot be opened without removal of the tear band.
