Abstract: An extrusion die for extruding thermoplastic materials to produce a sheet of substantially uniform thickness, the extrusion die having a manifold width that increases from the centerline toward the die exit or lip. The increasing width manifold arms, with the preland portion, provide a constant shear rate at all areas of the die and a constant residence time, so that every fluid particle path through the die has the same residence time. By having the increasing width manifold arms, the preland area of the extrusion die is decreased, usually by about 30%, often about 40-60%, compared to a Winter die, thus decreasing clam-shelling effect and allowing design and extrusion of wider sheets.

In addition, the hot-water heat shrinkage ratios in the longitudinal direction and the width direction when the film is treated in hot water at 90° C. for 10 seconds, the refractive indexes in the longitudinal direction and the width direction and the natural shrinkage ratio after aging at 40° C. and 65% RH for 700 hours or more are each controlled in predetermined ranges. The heat-shrinkable polyester film of the present invention is manufactured by stretching an unstretched film at a ratio of 2.5 times or more and 6.0 times or less in the width direction at a temperature of Tg+5° C. or more and Tg+40° C. or less, passing the film in an intermediate zone that does not execute an active heating operation, heat-treating the film at a temperature of 100° C. or more and 170° C. or less over a period of 1.0 second or more and 10.

  • Patent number: 7811493
Abstract: A joiner panel system is formed from a composite material and includes a panel attached to a deck by a coaming or shoe and attached at its upper edge by a curtain plate that fits around obstructions at the ceiling area. The shoe can be readily installed to an uneven steel deck by stud welding to reduce installation time or attached to a composite material deck. A curtain plate fabrication method uses a laser scan or close range photogrammetry of the overhead area to optimize and automate the cutting of curtain plate sections. The curtain plate sections can then be readily installed in the overhead area. A composite material panel to provide good flame, smoke and toxicity properties and good mechanical properties is formed from a phenolic resin foam material, micro-balloons to reduce the weight and density, and reinforcing fibers and powder material to improve the mechanical properties. The panel can be formed by a method in which the core and face skins are co-cured to provide a good bond.
