Abstract: There is provided a system and method for providing and utilizing objects having invisible three-dimensional images. There is provided an object comprising an inner material and an outer material. The inner material is formed in a three-dimensional shape and includes a first portion having a first ratio based on a first fluorescent dye and a first transparent material, wherein the first ratio is selected such as to cause the first portion to remain transparent when exposed to a visible light and the first portion to emit a first visible color when exposed to an invisible light. The outer material comprises a second transparent material formed around the inner material such as to hide the three-dimensional shape of the inner material. By exposing the object to the invisible light, the three-dimensional shape of the inner material is revealed.

The roofing material is applied to the carrier plate and the carrier plate is subjected to induction heating, by which its surface material has its temperature raised, without substantially raising the temperature of the carrier plate base, such that the thermoplastic material applied thereto is kept heated in the compression mold. Cooling of the thermoplastic material is by heat transfer from the carrier plate surface material to the carrier plate base, and with both materials having good heat conduction capability. The carrier plate surface material has a high receptivity to being heated by induction heating relative the carrier plate base. Abstract: The vanadium sesquioxide nanocomposite is useful for applications in thermistors, current switching devices, static charge dissipation devices, and electromagnetic shielding. Vanadium sesquioxide nanoparticles are produced using a sol-gel process that results in a V2O5 gel. The gel is heated in a reducing atmosphere of about 5% H2-95% argon at 850° C. for about four hours. The resulting product is dried at about 50° C. for twenty-four hours to produce V2O3 powder having particles about 23 nm in size. The nanocomposite is prepared by mixing the sesquioxide nanoparticles with epoxy resin and hardener in a centrifuge, casting the mixture in a Teflon mold, heating the mixture at 60° C. for 30 minutes, and curing the product at 150 KN/m2 at 100° C. for two hours. The nanocomposite contains about 80-90 wt % epoxy resin-hardener mixture and about 10-20 wt % vanadium sesquioxide nanoparticles.

  • Publication number: 20100323206
Abstract: A film composed of a metal or a semimetal is formed on a surface of a soft magnetic powder including iron and oxygen (in step S102). In this case, a silicon-containing film is desirably formed on a surface of the film. Next, compaction is performed on the soft magnetic powder, so that a green compact is obtained (in step S103). Since the film is a metal film or a semimetal film having a high ductility, the density of the green compact produced by the compaction can be higher, and generation of damage, such as cracks or the like, can be prevented in the film. The effects can be also obtained in a case of formation of the silicon-containing film. Next, the green compact is subjected to heating, so that a surface and an interface of the soft magnetic powder of the green compact are oxidized, so that an insulation film is formed (in step S104). Generation of eddy current loss can be prevented by the oxide film. As a result, productivity and magnetic properties can be improved.

The method of this disclosure comprises introducing a precursor composition onto a production tool having at least one continuous surface and a plurality of cavities so as to fill at least a portion of the cavities with the precursor composition and wherein the precursor composition, upon curing, forms a composition having a shape corresponding to the cavities thereby resulting in a plurality of discrete, precisely-shaped particles having a porosity comprising one of the following: (a) 10 m2/g or greater or (b) 5 kdalton or greater. The precisely-shaped particles have at least one essentially flat side. The precisely-shaped particles can be confined in a vessel and used for chromatographic applications.

Abstract: Tools for the forming of composite parts from composite forming materials, having tool bodies that comprise, at least in part, carbon foam and high density carbon foam are described. In some embodiments, a surface of the carbon foam or high density carbon foam may comprise a tool face. In other embodiments, the carbon foam or high density carbon foam may support an other material, referred to as tool face material, wherein a surface of the tool face material may comprise a tool face. The tools of the present invention may be lighter, more durable, and less costly to produce and/or use than conventional tools used for the production of composite parts, particularly those tools used for the production of carbon composites. Additionally, such tools may be reusable, repairable, and more readily modifiable.

Abstract: A shape memory rubber molded article (1) obtained from a mixture containing a rubber and a crystalline non-polymeric compound. The rubber in the molded article is crosslinked. A deformed state of the shape memory rubber molded article (1) is fixed by crystallizing the non-polymeric compound, and the fixed deformed state is released by melting the non-polymeric compound. The non-polymeric compound is preferably a wax. The shape memory rubber molded article (1) preferably contains a crosslinking agent. In the molded article (1), the rubber and the non-polymeric compound are preferably in finely divided separate phases.

  • Patent number: 7811505
Abstract: A method of depositing material upon a substrate features filling recesses of a substrate with liquid and removing material present on the substrate, outside of the recesses using fluid, i.e., apply a vacuum of a jet of fluid. To that end, one method of the present invention includes depositing a measure of liquid upon a surface of a substrate having a recess formed therein to ingress into a volume of the recess with a portion of the liquid. A quantity of the liquid is disposed upon regions of the surface proximate to the recess. Thereafter, the quantity of liquid is removed while maintaining the portion within the volume. In this manner, the portion may be transferred onto an additional substrate. More specifically, the portion may be placed in contact with a layer of flowable material and cross-linking therewith by exposing the liquid and the flowable material to actinic radiation.

Abstract: A method of compacting material such as but not limited to cathode material for electrochemical cells. A mixture is inserted into a die cavity and the mixture is compacted into a disk shape by the action of a first plunger pressing down on the material and a second plunger pressing upwardly on the material. Flashing of material during ejection of the disk from the die is prevented by fitting a polymeric sleeve around the outer surface of the first plunger. The sleeve flexes to bulge outwardly and does not enter the die cavity during compaction of material and returns to its original position during ejection of the compacted disk from the die. Contact between the disk and sleeve prevents flashing during ejection. Alternatively, a polymeric seal ring is placed around the outer surface of the first plunger. The disk presses against the seal ring preventing flashing of material during ejection.
