Abstract: A control method for an electromagnetic actuator for the control of a valve of an engine from an abutment condition, in which an actuator body actuating the valve and disposed to move between two electromagnets is maintained in abutment against a first excited electromagnet and against the action of at least one elastic body; in order to bring the actuator body into abutment against a second electromagnet, the first electromagnet is de-excited and the second electromagnet is then excited by means of excitation parameters, which are determined as a function of the measurement of the mean value of the disturbance force acting on the valve during the stage of de-excitation of the first electromagnet.

Abstract: A shock absorber comprises a magnetized plunger and a conductive coil disposed about the magnetized plunger. The coil forms a circuit that generates an electromagnetic force so as to damp movement of the magnetized plunger and a wheel coupled to the magnetized plunger. Movement of the magnetized plunger within the conductive coil may itself create a current, which may be stored by a battery for subsequent use.

Abstract: A brake-transmission shift interlock device 10 for an automatic transmission system includes a solenoid 14 secured to a support member 12 that positions the solenoid 14 so as to block movement of a transmission member 176 to prevent a transmission shifter from being moved from a park position. The solenoid 14 includes a plunger 50 having first and second portions 76 and 78. The second plunger portion 78 engages the transmission member 176 laterally on a side wall 94 if the brake pedal is not depressed and the shifter is in the park position. To prevent the plunger 50 from binding, the second plunger portion 78 is allowed to axially offset from the first plunger portion 76 thereby reducing the required lineal force to move the plunger 50 from a first to a second position when the solenoid 14 is energized.

  • Patent number: 6507257
Abstract: A bi-directional latching actuator is comprised of an output shaft with one or more rotors fixedly mounted thereon. The shaft and rotor are mounted for rotation in a magnetically conductive housing having a cylindrical coil mounted therein and is closed by conductive end caps. The end caps have stator pole pieces mounted thereon. In one embodiment, the rotor has at least two oppositely magnetized permanent magnets which are asymmetrically mounted, i.e., they are adjacent at one side and separated by a non-magnetic void on the other side. The stator pole piece has asymmetric flux conductivity and in one embodiment is axially thicker than the remaining portion of the pole piece. An abutment prevents the rotor from swinging to the neutral position (where the rotor magnets are axially aligned with the higher conductivity portion of the pole piece). Thus, the rotor is magnetically latched in one of two positions being drawn towards the neutral position.
