  • Publication number: 20130177142
Abstract: A tangible computer-readable storage medium is encoded with an executable computer program for routing international communications. When executed, the processor performs operations including receiving, from an international gateway via a network node, international communication origination data for an international communication to a customer's communication address. Customer routing instructions are received from the customer via a web server and are stored. The received customer routing instructions are retrieved and a determination is made of a first destination communication address based on the international communication origination data and the retrieved customer routing instructions. The first destination communication address is forwarded to the network node for routing the international communication to the destination communication address.

The storage unit stores an environment table which records relationships between receiver-environments and suitable replies. The receiving module receives a short message from a sending phone number. The determining module collects information to determine a current receiver-environment of the user of the electronic device. The detecting module detects an existing reply matching the current receiver-environment in the environment table. The acquiring module acquires the reply matching the current environment and the sending module sends a message which includes the acquired reply to the sending phone number.

Abstract: DSL backchannel data and/or information is transported upstream in a vectored, bonded line DSL system. Backchannel data (e.g., error samples or the like from downstream-end DSL equipment) is encapsulated/packetized using Layer 2 encapsulation. Upstream user data is packetized into Ethernet packets or the like. The backchannel data and upstream user data are combined and the combined data transmitted to an upstream-end DSL apparatus, such as an access node. The combined data are separated in the upstream-end DSL apparatus so that the upstream user data can be processed further. The Layer 2 encapsulated backchannel data is decapsulated and then routed to a vectoring control entity or the like for use in operating the DSL system, for example in mitigating FEXT crosstalk in the DSL system's operation.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for maintaining the maximum achievable data rate on a DSL line, up to and including a rate to which a user subscribes is described. Performance monitoring is conducted on the DSL line on an ongoing basis to determine noise margins in each direction. Each noise margin is compared against pre-determined decreasing/increasing thresholds to determine whether the line characteristics dictate a data rate change without loss of synchronization. The invention supports dynamic provisioning changes including application driven service level change requests, e.g., new bandwidth-on demand services. In some embodiments, a combination of existing and new embedded operations channel (EOC) messages are used to implement the modem data rate changes. New EOC messages may be implemented using some of the reserved and/or vendor proprietary Opcodes currently permitted. Modem assigned data rate changes are implemented without a disruption of service, e.g.

A concurrent voice call may contextualize shared media and/or activities. Users may share live experiences within the context of a voice call. Continuous, changing real-time media types such as periodic media (e.g., a user's current location) and streaming media (e.g., what the user is currently “seeing” through their personal video camera) may be shared, as well as interactive activities and atomic media types such as an image or a text message. Such sharing may have a unidirectional modality, for example, one party may offer to share media and/or an activity and another party may accept or reject it. Once accepted, the media and/or activity may be available until the sharing party terminates the call or ends the sharing. Conventional mobile computing environments may be adapted to enable rapid, wide-spread adoption of these communication modalities.

The method includes: judging whether a PSTN service exists on an access line of a main node; if no PSTN service exists, closing a switch component on the access lines of the main node so that the PSTN service on a branch node is transmitted to an HGW on the main node through the switch component and the HGW converts the PSTN service into a service based on a packet format and transmits the service based on the packet format. When the PSTN service is carried on the PS domain, no information needs to be exchanged with the network side, thus preventing impact caused by the failure at the network side and improving stability of the apparatus.

Abstract: A telephone system architecture enabling various components of a telephone system to be distributed geographically yet operates as a seamlessly integrated system. A signaling gateway interfaces to the PSTN and through an SS7 interface. The signaling gateway includes a telephony protocol server. At least one other component of the telephone system includes a telephony protocol client. The telephony protocol client and telephony protocol server communicate over an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The telephony protocol server provides access to the PSTN to the component having the telephony protocol client. Any functions in the various components that require an SS7 interface to the PSTN are simply handled through the signaling gateway by the telephony protocol server.

Abstract: A communication system provides a user with the ability to redirect telephone calls to a voice chat account and vice versa. In one example, a voice chat gateway may receive communication requests and determine whether communications directed to a first party is to be redirected. If so, the voice chat gateway may reroute the communication request to an appropriate destination. For instance, a user may request that all communications such as telephone calls be rerouted as a voice chat to the user's voice chat account. Alternatively, a user may request that all communications including voice chats be redirected to a telephone number. Users may further be allowed to call a voice chat account through a telephone network and initiate a voice chat with a telephone number through a data network.

  • Patent number: 8345836
Abstract: A communication device configured to receive messages containing media over a communication network and to receive locally created messages containing media created using the communication device. The device also includes a time-shifting buffer to store in a time-based format the media contained in both the messages received over the communication network and the locally created messages. The time-shifting buffer enables on the communication device to either (i) render the media received over the network in a near real-time mode; or (ii) render both the media received over the network and the locally created media in a time-shifted mode by retrieving the stored media from the time-shifting buffer. The communication device also includes a message management system, which enables the communication device to transition the rendering of the media between the time-shifted mode and the near real-time mode without interrupting the ongoing storage of media of received messages into the time-shifting buffer.

  • Patent number: RE44011
Abstract: A method for transferring data from a first switch to a second switch selectively by line-switching or by packet-switching as wellas to a switch for carrying out the method. Data packets are thereby first transferred packet-switched through a packet-switching network to the second switch. With the presence of a corresponding control signal a line-switching connection is established from the first switch to the second switch and the data are then transferred through this connection. Where applicable a renewed changeover to a packet-switching transfer is carried out. A flexible packet-switching or line-switching data transfer linked with dynamic costs between the junctions of a telecommunications network is enabled.
