The sign assembly includes a controller 12, a power supply 14, a pair of substantially transparent, electrically conductive sheets 16, 18, and a sheet of electronic paper 24, which is sandwiched between sheets 16, 18. Image layers 20, 22 are imprinted on the sheets 16, 18, or are alternatively held frictionally adjacent to sheets 16, 18 by a frame assembly 56. Image layers 20, 22 include substantially transparent regions 36, 38, 40 and 42 in which sheet 24 is visible. The conductive sheets 16, 18 are connected to controller 12 which provides an electronic signal which is varied over time resulting in the display of an animated or changing image which may be visible when viewed from one or both sides of the sign assembly 10.

Abstract: An image reproducing apparatus having a small size and which is highly portable reproduces an image contained within a hologram or holographic stereogram. In one embodiment, when a movable section movably attached to an apparatus body is moved from a first position, in which the movable section abuts the apparatus body, to a second position in which the movable section and apparatus body are separated, illumination light from a light source is irradiated at a predetermined incidence angle onto a hologram or holographic stereogram attached to a hologram attach section. In other embodiments, light from a light source is reflected from an edge portion of a light transmitting member, or from a separately provided mirror, to be irradiated at a predetermined angle onto the hologram or holographic stereogram.

Abstract: A diagnostic tool to assist patients in understanding the nature of medical conditions such as arthritis, includes a graphic display having a central scale with end points showing “REMISSION” and “WORST”. In addition, the tool comprises scales placed on either side and substantially equidistant from the central scale. One of the side scales is a patient assessment scale while the other scale is a clinical assessment scale. The side scales are arranged with end points adjacent the end points of the central scale. Lines may be drawn on the scale joining a patient's self assessment point with a clinical assessment done at the same time to demonstrate to the patient the patient's present condition, the therapeutic potential and the therapeutic opportunity.

Abstract: A scheduling sign system includes a main sign, at least one entity indicator, and at least one alternative indicator. The main sign displays an array of units of time. The entity indicator, which is separate from the main sign, displays information identifying an entity, e.g., a person. The alternative indicator, which is separate from the main sign and the entity indicator, displays information identifying a location, reminder, appointment, or activity, e.g., a scheduled doctor's appointment. The entity indicator indicates (e.g., points to) either a particular time on the main sign, e.g., the time of the doctor's appointment, or a particular alternative indicator. The alternative indicator indicates (e.g., points to) a particular time on the main sign or a particular entity indicator.

  • Patent number: 6215411
Abstract: A remotely controlled electronic display sign which operates with a plasma display and which provides for humidity control and the like allowing the sign to be used in various environments. The sign is essentially self-contained and includes those components necessary for enabling a display of desired material from a remote control source. A controller in or associated with the sign is accessible either electrically, or through satellite transmission or other wireless transmission from the remote source which allows the display of the sign to be changed at will. Thus, an operator at a remote source may, with the aid of a pre-prepared graphic design, transmit that design to the controller at or associated with the sign for display of that graphic information.

Abstract: A versatile three-dimensional billboard capable of remote control operation, animation, and color accentuation. The billboard includes a board defining a plurality of holes arranged in a matrix. A plurality of rods are slidably mounted in the holes. At least one actuator is operatively coupled to the rods, the actuator being capable of moving each of the rods independently of the other rods. A controller is coupled to the actuator, the controller being operable to move the rods to desired positions such that outer ends of said rods define a three-dimensional display. This billboard has a broad range of uses, for example from a corner grocery store display to a giant advertising billboard at a major downtown location such as Times Square in New York City.

Abstract: A novelty card lighting device is disclosed. The lighting device is relatively small so as to be hand held and portable. The light is directed at a predefined angle such that the three dimensional illusion of a hologram card is presented to the viewer when the device is hand held at normal arm's length, set upon a surface in front of the viewer, or hung on the wall. The light is swingably mounted in the device and such a swinging is actuated from an exterior portion of the housing. The actuator may be mechanical or include an electromechanical servo. A mount for the novelty card pivots out from the rear of the device for placement of the card in an inset formed in the mount. When the mount swings closed, the novelty card is sandwiched between the mount and a viewing glass covering at least a portion of an opening formed by the housing or frame.

  • Patent number: 5574428
Abstract: A display unit for presenting messages from a motor vehicle in which messages are selected for presentation based upon the number of interruptions in the power supplied to the display unit. A power supply provides power to an interrupter, which produces, within a first predetermined time frame, interruptions in the power. The power interruptions are sensed and counted, and a timer measures the first predetermined time frame in which the interruptions in the power occur. A message storage means is provided, in which is stored at least one message to be presented. A controller selects one of the stored messages for presentation, based on the number of interruptions sensed in the power and the first predetermined time frame during which the interruptions occurred, and the message is presented on a display panel. In a preferred embodiment the controller ceases the presentation of the message after a second predetermined time frame, which is most preferably about three seconds.
