  • Patent number: 6213746
Abstract: A die and process of reinforcing a resin with fibers. The die includes a first mold and a second mold positioned with respect to the first mold to define a passageway having an entrance portion, an exit portion, and a mixing chamber situated between the entrance portion and the exit portion. The first mold has a recess and the second mold has a protrusion which extends into the recess of the first mold to angle a portion of the passageway between the entrance portion and the mixing chamber. This angle is generally greater than about 90 degrees with respect to a direction in which the fibers may be drawn along an axis through the entrance portion. A roving of fibers is drawn into the die and through the entrance portion of the passageway. The fibers then pass through the angled portion of the passageway, wherein the fibers are forced to bend, causing the fibers to splay before entering the mixing chamber. As the fibers pass into the mixing chamber, the fibers are homogeneously impregnated with molten resin.

  • Patent number: 6126428
Abstract: A microelectronic assembly such as an assembly of a semiconductor chip and mounting substrate is encapsulated by applying an encapsulant to the assembly while maintaining the assembly under a subatmospheric pressure to minimize gas entrapment in the encapsulant. • Patent number: 5785998
Abstract: An ultra thin walled wire reinforced endotracheal tubing includes a thin walled tubing comprising a polymeric material having a spring material incorporated therewith. Utilization of the spring wire material in combination with polymeric material results in a reduced wall thickness which results in a significant decrease in resistance to air flow through the endotracheal tubing. The endotracheal tubing of the present invention is made by depositing a dissolvable polymeric material on a rotating mandrel in successive layers. A spring material is also applied around the mandrel to produce the ultra thin walled wire reinforced endotracheal tubing. By controlling the rate of deposition of polymeric material along the length of the mandrel, different wall thicknesses of tubing may be achieved.

Abstract: A mold locator is adapted to support and position a wound electromagnetic coil within a mold for encapsulation of the coil by dielectric media. In one preferred form, the locator includes an annular central body having arms extending radially from the central body. In addition to having a pair of stiffening ribs extending along the sides thereof, each arm incorporates a channel for carrying a wire lead. The central body is annular in shape and defines an interior wall having a plurality of radially extending detents adapted to make point contacts with a centering arbor in the mold. Similarly, each radially extending arm of the mold locator incorporates at least one detent adapted to make a point contact with the floor or bottom of the mold cavity. Collectively, the detents operate to limit surface contact between the locator and the internal surfaces of the mold.
