Abstract: Selected surfaces of a cellular polymeric foam surface finishing pad are heated to cause the surface cells to partially collapse or to fully collapse and glaze over. The selected surfaces may be the planar pad faces or may be formed in one or more depressions formed in the planar faces. The areas of partially collapsed cell structures in the operating face of the pad provide a slow down in the rate of polish or compound absorption, increasing the effectiveness of the finishing process. The fully collapsed cell glazed surface on the rear attachment face of the pad prevents the migration of moisture through the pad to the pad attachment mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6651644
Abstract: A rotating blade for a cutting machine having a new arbor mounting hole. The arbor mounting hole has five sides arranged in a cut gem configuration. The arbor mounting hole is symmetrical on either side of a mid-line. However, the mid-line of the arbor mounting hole need not pass through the geometric center of the blade. Inserts are provided. The inserts fit into the arbor mounting hole. Each of the inserts defines an aperture for receiving a drive arbor of a different configuration. The apertures are off-set in the inserts, to compensate for the off-set arbor mounting hole, so that the apertures are disposed at the geometric center of the blade when any insert is placed in the arbor mounting hole.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a contamination prevention system and method of use having a contamination prevention shield that cooperates with a high pressure rinse apparatus to prevent contamination of particles within a CMP apparatus. The contamination prevention shield has a cleaning cup, two vertical side shields, a front vertical shield, and a floor that cooperate to prevent leakage of fluid splattered during a high pressure rinse of the CMP apparatus and an interior portion of a CMP apparatus housing; and a high pressure rinse apparatus connected to the contamination prevention shield having a conduit with at least one nozzle for dispensing cleaning fluid during a high pressure rinse cycle. Additionally, a plurality of contamination prevention shields may be used in combination with the high pressure rinse apparatus to further prevent contamination of an interior portion of the housing and the CMP apparatus.

Abstract: A polishing puck assembly is provided for use in polishing a fiber optic connector. A slidable weight rests on the fiber optic connector to urge the ferrule of the fiber optic connector to extend below a bottom surface of the puck assembly. The puck assembly can be manipulated relative to polishing material to polish the end of the fiber optic connector. The polishing material can be circular in shape and held by a palette defining one or more circular pockets for holding the polishing material. Different polishing material can be positioned in the different pockets. A circular guide can be utilized in the circular pocket wherein the guide includes a circular opening with a center offset from a center of the circular guide.

  • Patent number: 6494771
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting an abrasive material includes a flexible base defined by a first end and a second end, and by a lower surface which supports the abrasive material and an upper surface opposite the lower surface. The flexible base is fabricated from a resilient material so as to assume an essentially flat shape when the ends of the flexible base are not acted on by external forces. A front frame is member attached to the flexible base proximate the first end, and a rear frame member is attached to the flexible base proximate the second end. An adjustable connecting link has a first end connected to the front frame member in fixed relation thereto. A second end of the adjustable connecting link is connected to the rear frame member by a variably positionable connection.
