Bedclothing Patents (Class 5/482)
  • Patent number: 5286556
Abstract: A shaping-material or filler for textiles such as bedspreads, garments or the like is disclosed consisting of a large number of fiber aggregates of a maximum length of 50 mm each. The fiber aggregates are smaller and softer than down in nature and essentially all the fibers are crimped with the fibers of the individual fiber aggregates being arranged randomly inside each aggregate. A filler is created thereby which is especially suitable for textiles such as bedspreads, or garments such as jackets, coats or the like with, the filler being enclosed in an envelope. This filler can be made to vary in thickness with surface distribution, in the manner known for fiber balls and down. However, the filler has little shift, even if the textile is vigorously shaken, and nevertheless, is very soft. A method for manufacturing the textile is also described.

Abstract: A decorative bed ruffle is capable of installation on a mattress foundation such as a box spring without removal of an upper mattress therefrom. A band of elastically stretchable material forms a closed loop adapted to be stretched to pass over the upper mattress and grippingly retained on the sides of the mattress foundation. The width of the band is such-that top and bottom edge portions of the band will extend over and elastically grip top and bottom edge 5 of the mattress foundation, respectively. A decorative skirt is attached to the band of material in overlapping relation therewith, for covering at least part of a central portion of the band extending over the foundation sidewalls, and at least part of the space between the mattress foundation and a supporting floor surface.

  • Patent number: 5243724
Abstract: A multi-purpose baby wrap which converts to a blanket, a bunting, a pad or a carrier sling. The wrap comprises two major parts: a full sized baby blanket and a large, detachable, bifurcated pocket. The pocket covers the lower half of the blanket and is sized to fit children from birth to about two years, with the pocket covering the child's legs and torso up to the waist. A baby's diaper may be changed without removing the baby from the wrap by simply unfastening the bottom and sides of the pocket and lifting it to expose the lower half of the baby. For use of the wrap as a bunting, the baby is placed feet first in the pocket; the blanket is then rolled around the baby and secured snugly about his or her midriff with one or two short straps. With the blanket so secured, the apparatus in plan view presents the appearance of a rectangle. At each corner of this rectangle, a fastener is provided for attaching a pair of elongated straps to the wrap.

  • Patent number: 5184612
Abstract: A thermal blanket of the Augustine type includes an inflatable covering with a head end, a foot end, two edges and an undersurface. The covering is inflated through an inlet by a thermally-controlled inflating medium. An aperture array on the undersurface of the covering exhausts the thermally controlled inflating medium from the covering. Exhaust port openings are provided at the edges of the covering to vent the inflating medium, which enhances circulation of the thermally-controlled medium through the cover toward the periphery of the thermal blanket. A pair of uninflatable drape sections are provided at the head end for covering the chest area and enabling viewing thereof. When inflated, the thermal blanket self-erects and provides a bath of thermally-controlled inflating medium to the interior of the erected structure. When the structure covers a patient, the uninflatable transparent section at the head end provides a relatively unobstructed view of the sides of the patient's chest and upper torso.

Abstract: A security blanket which is simulative of the tactile response of the amnion lining and amniotic fluid as known and seen to be experienced by a fetus by the use of ultrasonography is provided by juxtapositioning two flexible sheets of material which are preferably attached only on their common peripheral boundaries. The sliding coefficient of friction between the two sheets is low and simulative of fluidic friction so that when the sheets are manipulated or stroked by the hand and fingers of an infant, a fluidic or smooth glide is sensed. The sheets preferably are formed as a rectangle 14 by 18 inches and are bound along their common peripheries by a border. In one embodiment the brush flannel sheet is attached to a charmeuse satin sheet and bound by satin border.

  • Patent number: 4979250
Abstract: A blanket and method for swaddling an infant is provided that is both physically and psychologically simulative of the snug encapsulization experienced by the infant when in utero. The blanket is comprised of an upper portion having two symmetric wings. Each wing has a shape and a size sufficient to be wrapped over the shoulder and arm of the infant in front of the infant's body and behind her back. The upper panel extends to form a necked-down panel of reduced width. The blanket is folded along the line of the necked-down panel with a lower panel of increased width being brought up and folded across the front of the infant. The opposing corners of the lower panel can then be wrapped around and behind the infant, leaving the infant snugly encapsulated within the multiple layers of the blanket with no excess accumulation or bagging of material or deficiency of material where needed which might otherwise be formed if the blanket were rectangular or another shape.

Abstract: A CT-scanner includes a patient cushion that fits over a baseplate. Both the cushion and the baseplate have complementary lengthwise fastener strips. A cover of the scanner includes a vinyl central sheet that drapes over side rails of the scanner to form overhang flaps. Each of the flaps is sewn onto a sheeted section that has longitudinal velcro strips. When the sheeted sections are tucked between the baseplate and the cushion, the fastener strips of the sheeted section fasten to the velcro strips of the cushion and the baseplate. A head end of the central sheet is contoured to fit over a head rest of the scanner and cause a funneling of fluids onto the center of the central sheet from the head of a patient in either a supine or prone position on the cover.
