  • Patent number: 5940909
Abstract: A reversible pillowcase which is formed by folding a single piece of fabric into substantially three equal portions. The portions are attached together along two sides, thus forming first and second pockets with openings at opposite ends. Inverting the first pocket forms a pillowcase by exposing one decorative surface of the fabric and hiding the stitching used to attach the portions. Inverting the second pocket exposes a second decorative surface while also hiding the stitching. Thus a reversible pillowcase can be converted between two different decorative appearances while also hiding the unsightly stitching used in manufacturing the article.

  • Patent number: 5343579
Abstract: The present invention relates to a blanket for use with forced air convection systems, wherein the blanket includes multiple inlet ports. By providing a blanket with multiple inlets, the user has the choice of positioning the air supply or blower unit and the supply hose on either side of the patient. In addition, in a preferred embodiment, the inlet ports are resealable, thus allowing the user to switch inlets during use.

  • Patent number: 5324320
Abstract: A thermal blanket includes an inflatable covering with a head end, a foot end, two edges and an undersurface. The covering is inflated through an inlet at the foot end by a thermally-controlled inflating medium. An aperture array on the undersurface of the covering exhausts the thermally-controlled inflating medium from the covering. Exhaust port openings are provided at the edges of the covering to vent the inflating medium, which enhances circulation of the thermally-controlled medium through the cover. An uninflatable section is provided at the head end, together with an absorbent bib attached to the covering, adjacent the uninflatable section. When inflated, the thermal blanket self-erects and provides a bath of thermally-controlled inflating medium to the interior of the erected structure.

  • Patent number: 5321861
Abstract: A protective cover for upholstered or padded articles such as bedding is made from a microporous ultrafilter material having a pore size of less than 0.0005 mm, to suppress passage of fecal particles produced by house dust mites. To prevent particles from bypassing the ultrafilter material, the seams of the cover are welded, and its opening is sealed by a resealable fastener, such as a zip-fastener, covered with an adhesive tape.

Abstract: Bedclothes which have been modified by affixing thereto connecting means which are positioned to guide the placement of the bedclothes on the mattress. When connectors are aligned along the periphery of the mattress, the bedclothes are properly centered and positioned with the correct amount of overhang on three sides. The connectors on one article of bedclothes coact with those on the next layer to position that layer and hold the layers together as a unit. Bedclothes may be removed and replaced as a unit or singly and they may be tucked under the mattress or not as the user dictates. The method of bedmaking utilizing the bedclothes may be performed visually or tactilely.

  • Patent number: 5309586
Abstract: A new and improved blanket apparatus for fitting over a baby seat or carrier which has a top and sides includes a flexible cloth member having dimensions sufficient to fit over the top and sides of the baby seat or carrier. The flexible cloth member has an outer edge; and an elastic strip or a draw string is installed near the outer edge of the flexible cloth member, for gathering the outer edge to form an opening having a plurality of adjustable sizes. A first adjustable size of the opening is sufficiently large to fit over the top and sides of the baby seat or carrier for installing the blanket apparatus on the baby seat or carrier. A second adjustable size of the opening is sufficiently small to resin the blanket apparatus on the baby seat or carrier, by preventing the blanket apparatus from slipping over the sides once the blanket apparatus has been installed.

Abstract: A quilt system having an alarm for indicating when it has slipped off a user is provided. The system includes a quilt having arranged on an inside surface thereof, a plurality of rubber conductors coupled to form two groups of alternating conductors, and a belly-band having a conductive rubber layer disposed on an outside surface thereof. An integrated circuit chip is provided in the quilt and coupled to the rubber conductors thereof for sensing electrical contact between the quilt and the belly-band conductor. A buzzer is coupled to the integrated circuit for indicating a loss of contact between the conductors of the quilt with the belly-band conductor. When the quilt is in contact with the belly-band, the buzzer or oscillator of the integrated circuit chip is kept in its normal inactive state.
