  • Patent number: 6600000
Abstract: A process for producing a vinyl chloride polymer, the process including the steps of charging into a polymerization vessel, vinyl chloride or a monomer mixture containing vinyl chloride, water, and other materials necessary for polymerization, and polymerizing in an aqueous medium the vinyl chloride or the monomer mixture. An antioxidant is added to a mixture of materials before polymerization, or to a polymerization reaction mixture during polymerization or after polymerization. The antioxidant is added in the state of an aqueous dispersion and by means of a uniaxial eccentric screw pump. The aqueous antioxidant dispersion can be added at a constant rate and stably, without causing any block-up of the interior of the pump even when the polymerization vessel is held at a high internal pressure. Hence, vinyl chloride polymers having less uneven plasticizer absorption and having good anti-initial discoloration properties and thermal stability can be produced stably.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a powder coating composition and a method. The method improves the color strength of a cured film of the powder-based coating composition. To produce the powder-based coating composition, the method begins by combining a powder-based binder, specifically a resin and a cross-linking agent, with a pigment and a surfactant to form a mixture. The mixture is then extruded thereby forming an extrudate of the mixture. The extrudate is cooled and then ground to produce the powder-based coating composition from the extrudate of the mixture. Next, the powder-based coating composition is spray applied to a substrate and cured to form the cured film. The surfactant in the mixture improves the color strength of the powder-based coating composition and the cured film so that the amount of pigment included in the mixture can ultimately be reduced. Additionally, certain physical properties of the cured film are not compromised.

Abstract: A vulcanizate derived from a polymer composition comprising three components exhibits improved hot air aging properties and is useful, for example, for the manufacture of articles subject to dynamic loading, such as belting applications. The first component is a polymer having a main polymer chain derived from: (i) at least about 30% by weight of a first monomer which introduces at least one of a secondary carbon and a tertiary carbon to the backbone, and (ii) from 0 to about 70% by weight of at least one other monomer. Preferred are ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymers. The second component is a salt of a strong base and a weak acid, the salt comprising a metal selected from Group I of the Periodic Table of Elements. The third component is an antioxidant.

Abstract: A heat stabilizing composition for polyolefins comprises an oxidized, non-cationized, non-silylated sulfur black pigment, a hindered phenolic antioxidant a sulfur-containing secondary stabilizer, each in stabilizing amount, and a hindered amine. The heat stabilizing composition yields polyolefin compounds and articles having improved long term heat aging stability. Preferably, the sulfur black pigment is treated by washing, to thereby reduce the concentration of soluble sodium salts.
