  • Patent number: 10671141
Abstract: A method of controlling a link state of a communication port of a storage device according to the present inventive concepts includes setting the link state of the communication port to a link active state that can exchange data with a host, determining a holding time of a first standby state among link states of the communication port, changing the link state of the communication port to the first standby state, monitoring whether an exit event occurs during the holding time from the time when a transition to the first standby state occurs, and in response to an exit event not occurring during the holding time, changing the link state of the communication port to a second standby state. A recovery time from the first standby state to the link active state is shorter than a recovery time from the second standby state to the link active state.

  • Patent number: 10671134
Abstract: A persistent memory storage system and method of operating. The storage system is embodied as memory module (e.g., a DIMM or PCIe card) in a host server and accessible via a first access path to/from the memory module. After a power failure at the host server, any authorized device, e.g., a second server, is configured to access and extract the retained memory at the failed host server via a secondary network-based access path (e.g., Ethernet connection). Power may be supplied to the memory module of the failed host server via a Power-over-Ethernet switch to support the secondary access path. A Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch may provide the necessary power to the memory module when power is unavailable from the host server and when any temporary power source is exhausted. A redundant power source and/or backup battery may supply the PoE switch. Such power sources and/or batteries can thereby provide backup power.

  • Patent number: 10620678
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a system 400 for transmitting power to a remote Power over Ethernet (PoE) subsystem by forwarding Powered Device (PD) input voltage where the subsystem includes a PD and a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) device. Included is a master PSE device 402, a first subsystem 410, and a second subsystem 428. The first subsystem 410 includes a first PD 418 that includes a first power switching device 426 and a first PSE device 424. The first power switching device 426 forwards the input power from the first PD 418 to the first PSE 424 without disturbing the PoE handshaking between the devices. The second subsystem 428 receives the power from the first subsystem's 410 first PSE device 424. And the second subsystem 428 operates in a manner similar to the first subsystem 410.

  • Patent number: 10613957
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for achieving balanced execution in a multi-node cluster through runtime detection of performance variation are described. During a training phase, performance counters and an amount of time spent waiting for synchronization is monitored for a plurality of tasks for each node of the multi-node cluster. These values are utilized to generate a model which correlates the values of the performance counters to the amount of time spent waiting for synchronization. Once the model is built, the values of the performance counters are monitored for a period of time at the start of each task, and these values are input into the model. The model generates a prediction of whether a given node is on the critical path. If the given node is predicted to be on the critical path, the power allocation of the given node is increased.

  • Patent number: 10591978
Abstract: Processors may include cache circuitry that is a significant source of power consumption. A cache is going to be placed into a lower power mode. Based at least in part on this anticipated transition, the contents of the cache data lines are copied into persistent storage. While the cache is in the lower power mode, the tag circuitry is kept operational. When an access request is made to the cache, a relatively fast lookup of the tag in the tag array can be made. The location where the associated cache line is stored in the persistent storage may be determined from the tag data. Upon a tag hit, the system is able to find the contents of the requested cache line in the persistent storage without returning the storage array of the cache to a fully operational state.
