  • Patent number: 8365753
Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnetic flow controller which transforms a slow reduction in pressure of fluid flow over time to a measurable fluid flow. Once a threshold pressure differential is reached, a flow passage through the flow controller opens rapidly to a relatively large opening, thereby generating a volume of fluid at high flux flowing through the passage, particularly to permit the measurement of the volume of fluid in a conventional flow meter. The device of the present invention integrates this low flux and transforms it to a measurable fluid flux, so that the fluid can be measured by the fluid meter within its optimum error range. This is accomplished while maintaining a pressure drop in the flow meter which is within the permitted standards. Thus, the invention provides relatively sharp shifts between substantially high flux flow and no flow, in a pulse-like manner.

Abstract: A pressure-relief valve assembly is improved in that sealing surfaces on both the valve seat and valve head are confrontationally disposed annular planar surfaces oriented substantially perpendicular to the valve axis. A resilient valve seal is formed of a material which deforms to a predetermined extent into sealing engagement against both sealing surfaces when compressed by the spring biasing force. When a vacuum exists the combination of the spring force and a holding force created by a pressure differential acts to increase the extent of compression between the resilient valve seal and both sealing surfaces sufficient to create a vacuum-tight seal. The magnitude of the spring biasing force in discrete increments may be adjusted by varying the degree of threaded engagement between members forming the valve housing.

Abstract: Flow directing apparatus for use with fluid regulators are described herein. An example fluid regulator includes a body having a passageway defining an orifice that fluidly couples an inlet and an outlet. A valve plug is disposed within the passageway that moves relative to a valve seat adjacent the orifice. An actuator operatively coupled to the valve plug and the actuator includes a sensing chamber fluidly coupled to the outlet of the passageway. The actuator moves the valve plug relative to the valve seat to control fluid flow through the orifice between the inlet and the outlet in response to the pressure of a process fluid at the outlet. A flow directing member is coupled to the valve plug.

Abstract: The invention concerns a filling control device of a hydrodynamic machine having two inlets and two outlets as well as two valve bodies. The two valve bodies can be shifted by means of a piston rod, to control the flow of working medium in the inlets and outlets as an open or closed-loop. The invention is characterised in that that the first valve body is connected elastically on the piston rod and that a stationary stop is provided for the first valve body, against which the first valve body strikes when the second valve body is further shifted by means of the piston rod.

Abstract: A flow control device typically for protecting a seal (20) in a valve, wherein a body portion (5) has an orifice (8) allowing fluid flow, and the valve has a control portion (10) to allow and restrict fluid flow through the orifice. The flow control device has a fluid flow controller (30) between the body portion and the control portion in the form of at least one annular ring (35), disposed in a recess in one of the body portion and the control portion (10). The fluid flow controller (30) defines a leak path through the device that is opened and closed by a pressure differential acting across the annular member. Typically the application of a pressure differential across the fluid flow controller moves the ring(s) to one end of the recess and reduces the cross sectional area of the leak path available to the fluid, thereby diffusing the fluid flow through the orifice (8).

Abstract: A pressure relief valve includes a base including a fluid inlet and outlet, a nozzle, and a disc. The nozzle includes a substantially annular seat, a substantially cylindrical seat inlet, and a substantially cylindrical bore in fluid communication with the seat inlet. A ratio between a bore diameter and a seat diameter is a constraint ratio. The disc contacts the seat to seal the fluid inlet to substantially prevent fluid communication between the fluid inlet and outlet when the valve is closed. The disc and the disc holder are adapted to be urged by fluidic pressure such that contact between the disc and the seat is removed at the fluidic pressure to allow fluid communication between the fluid inlet and the cavity. Dimensions of the disc, the disc holder, and the nozzle may be functions of the seat diameter and limited by the constraint ratio.
