  • Patent number: 10739798
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for detecting temperature excursion in a chemical plant or petrochemical plant or refinery. Aspects of the disclosure provide an enhanced control system for a reactor, such as in hydroprocessing. The enhanced control system may provide early warnings of impending undesirable events, directly or indirectly manipulate certain process variables to reduce undesirable outcomes, and/or directly or indirectly manipulate of certain process variables so as to place a reactor unit in a “safe park” state. This may avoid a high temperature trip, depressuration, associated operating risks, allow for faster recovery from temperature excursions, and/or avoid unplanned emergency shutdowns of the reactor, chemical process, plant, or refinery.

  • Patent number: 10683461
Abstract: Turbine fuel provided for large-scale land based turbines used by utilities for producing electricity and desalinated water, and for large mobile engines and turbines in marine and remote applications where only liquid fuels are available. Use results in less corrosion, ash formation and emissions (NOx, SOx, CO2 and noxious metals) than firing contaminated heavy crude, refinery residual oils or high sulfur fuel oils. Manufacture is by decontaminating crude oils, non-conventional crudes, and other highly contaminated feeds. Each fuel is produced as a single product of unit operations, not ex-plant blend of various refinery products, yet using an apparatus configuration less complex than conventional crude oil refining. These fuels can be fired by advanced high efficiency turbines of combined cycle power plants having hot flow paths and heat recovery steam generation systems susceptible to corrosion, which systems cannot otherwise risk contaminated heavy crudes or refinery residual oils feeds.

Hydrothermal stability of the catalyst and dispersion of active components may be increased by enlarging a pore channel and a specific surface area of the carrier, thereby prolonging the life of the hydrodeoxygenation catalyst. A hydroisomerization catalyst takes multi-walled carbon nanotube composite hierarchical-pore-channel NiAPO-11 or NiSAPO-11 as a carrier and takes NixMoLa, NixCoLa or NixWLa as an active component. Due to the adding of the carbon nanotubes, the pore channel of the carrier is enriched, and connection between the active components and the carrier is effectively enhanced, thereby prolonging the life of the catalyst on a basis of increasing selectivity of aviation kerosene component. Abstract: A hydrocarbon composition that is produced through a solvent extraction of woody tree material is provided. The composition is suitable for use as a petroleum substitute. The woody tree material is sourced from hydrocarbon-bearing trees or shrubs containing relatively low molecular weight hydrocarbons. Suitable tree species include pine and eucalyptus trees. A raw woody tree biomass is processed into solvent-permeable particles and chips. Naturally occurring hydrocarbons found in the wood particles are extracted using an organic solvent extraction process. The organic solvent utilized is a mixture of organic solvents that includes a non-polar solvent and a polar solvent. The extracted hydrocarbons are separated from the solvent mixture and may be used as a petroleum substitute, while the solvent may be reused in the extraction operation.

  • Patent number: 9850434
Abstract: A method of predicting the tendency of a heavy oil feed to generate coke deposits in the FCC riser under a given set of operating parameters in the unit; thus, by utilizing operating parameters appropriate to the feed, the formation of coke deposits in the riser may be minimized. The margin between the theoretical dew point of the hydrocarbon feed established from unit operating parameters and the theoretical mix zone temperature in the feed injection zone of the unit is developed by applying a regression-derived linear model from multiple rigorous model runs. The mix zone of the unit is then operated at a temperature which reduces the level of riser coking predicted from this ascertainable margin or, at least, maintains it within levels which are predictable and acceptable.

Abstract: Provided is a method for producing bio-aromatic compounds from glycerol. The method uses a primary alcohol, secondary alcohol or a combination thereof as a mixing medium in converting glycerol into an aromatic compound, and thus overcomes the high viscosity of glycerol and improves the problem of rapid catalytic deactivation, thereby increasing the yield of aromatic compounds and improving the stability of catalyst. In addition, the method for producing bio-aromatic compounds uses a zeolite-based catalyst that is a kind of solid acid catalysts, and suggests optimum reaction conditions, and thus imparts a high added value to glycerol produced as a byproduct in a biodiesel production process and increases the cost-efficiency of process.
