Abstract: A communication system includes a source PNNI node. The system includes a destination PNNI node. The system includes a network having logical group nodes representing peer groups through which the source node and the destination node communicate by establishing an SPVC using a DTL which identifies the group nodes representing the peer groups with only a partial node ID. A method for communicating includes the steps of forming a DTL which identifies logical group nodes representing peer groups with only a partial node ID. There is the step of establishing an SPVC using the DTL through which a source PNNI node and a destination PNNI node of a network communicate.

Abstract: A subscription method and device based upon the session initiation protocol are disclosed, such that a function of permanent subscription and temporary subscription is achieved, and a time at which a notification is sent can be customized. In the present invention, a mechanism of permanent subscription and temporary subscription is introduced. Upon reception of a SUBSCRIBE message, a notifier sets a temporary subscription flag or a permanent subscription flag for a subscriber according to an identifier carried in the message or service characteristic corresponding to a subscribed event. In the case of the permanent subscription flag, a NOTIFY message from the notifier is continuously sent until the subscriber or the system revokes subscription, and in the case of the temporary subscription flag, the notifier no longer sends a NOTIFY message upon finishing of a subscribed service.

  • Patent number: 7940758
Abstract: A technique is disclosed that enables a set of information to be represented by data packets, where those data packets can then be distributed as needed throughout the telecommunications system that uses the data. The data packet of the illustrative embodiment is an autonomous encapsulation of data, a subsection of a data model at a certain time in relation to other data in the system at another time. The data packet is identified at a particular time and value with a globally unique identifier. Relationships of the data packet to other data packets are made known by using references to the other packets. As a result, referenced data packets are retrieved throughout the system based on their relationships to each other. Whenever a data packet is transmitted or received, each node involved in the transmission applies rules that determine where the data has to be transmitted to and what to do with the data when received.

Abstract: Systems and methods for switching traffic include a physical machine running source and destination virtual machines (VMs). The source VM issues a data unit addressed to the destination VM. The physical machine has a physical network interface in communication with the VMs. The physical network interface transmits a sub-packet, which includes a partial portion of the data unit, over a network while a majority portion of the data unit remains at the physical machine. A network switch on the network receives the sub-packet transmitted by the physical network interface. The network switch performs one or more OSI Layer 2 through Layer 7 switching functions on the sub-packet and returns that sub-packet to the physical network interface. The physical network interface identifies the data unit stored in the memory in response to the sub-packet returned from the network switch and forwards the identified data unit to the destination VM.

The number of reassembly queues required to ensure reassembly is dramatically reduced (e.g., to the number of paths multiplied by the number of scheduling priorities). Abstract: A method includes determining a priority of each of a plurality of frames, wherein the priority is a function of an initial value dependent on content of each said frame and one or more adjustment values independent of content of each said frame, and selecting the frame with the highest determined priority for transmission through the device prior to transmission of any other of the frames. A system includes a receiving port configured to receive frames and assign an initial priority to each frame, a queue configured to insert queue entries associated with received frames on the queue, each queue entry being inserted at a queue position based on the initial priority assigned to the queue entry, the queue further configured to reorder queue entries based on readjusted priorities of the queue entries; and a transmitter switch configured to transmit the frame having the highest priority before transmitting any other frame.

  • Patent number: 7843933
Abstract: When packets reach from the 0 system and the 1 system, the packet selecting means 21 determines, based on the sequence numbers held in the packet output record register 22, whether or not the corresponding packet has passed, interrupts passing of the corresponding packet to the output side if passed, and allows the corresponding packet to pass to the output side if not passed. When the packet selecting means 21 selects a packet and allows the packet to pass to the output side, the packet output record register 22 holds the sequence number of the corresponding packet as a packet output record. Phase adjusting means that absorbs an average difference in delay for transmission between the systems may be provided at a stage before the packet selecting means 21.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for establishing transcoding free connections between UMA and UMTS call legs are disclosed. According to one method, a media gateway determines whether codec configurations used by UMA and UMTS legs of a call are compatible. In response to determining that the configurations are compatible, media gateway determines whether rate control is necessary to establish a transcoding free connection. In response to determining that rate control is necessary, the media gateway issues rate control requests on the UMA and UMTS legs as appropriate. The media gateway determines whether the rate control requests are successful. In response to determining that the requests are successful, the media gateway establishes a transcoding free connection between the UMA and the UMTS legs of the call.

Abstract: The router of the invention comprises a routing table and an NAT table, which comprises an internet routing field for recording an address where a routing path to a WAN is stored, an intranet routing field for recording an address where a routing path to an LAN is stored, and a routing flag field for recording information indicating whether the NAT table stores an address where a routing path to a destination address is stored. When receiving a packet to a destination address, the router checks whether the NAT table records the address where a routing path to the destination address is stored. The router transmits the packet based on the routing information of the NAT table if the result is positive. If the result is negative, the router selects a routing path to the destination address from the routing table and transmits the packet base on the selected routing path.

  • Patent number: 7822889
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for transmitting data in a data network. A first processor of the data network receives data to be transmitted to a second processor within the data network. A determination is made if the data has previously been routed through an indirect communication link from a source processor, the indirect communication link being a communication link that does not directly couple the source processor to a final destination processor which is to receive the data. A communication link is selected over which to transmit the data from the first processor to the second processor based on results of determining if the data has previously been routed through an indirect communication link. Finally, the data is transmitted from the first processor to the second processor using the selected communication link.

  • Patent number: 7817644
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for an ATM network for implementing a fair servicing of all connections during a back-logged condition through the use of a weighted fair queuing technique. The system is particularly suited for systems where the packets/cells are of a fixed size. Although some important approximations are made in the proposed implementation, all of the properties of an ideal weighted fair queuing algorithm are preserved. The sorting methods and apparatus are advantageous in that it is possible to maintain appropriate servicing of connections without sorting all of the individual connections. This may be accomplished by pre-sorting each of the individual virtual circuit connections into a finite number of predetermined bins according to a weight associated with the connection. Thereafter, only the bins need be sorted without having to sort each of the individual connections.
