  • Patent number: 5501554
Abstract: A deburring tool, and a cutting tool blade and pivot member therefor. The arbor is formed with a cutting blade recess for a cutting tool having a flat resilient blade. The blade is releasably secured in the recess by a pivot member extending transversely through the recess. The cutting tool blade includes an open-ended slot having an arcuate closed end and one or more flat surfaces. The pivot member has a shank portion with arcuate and flat sides, and is selectively rotatable in the cutting blade slot between a locked position preventing separation of the blade from the pivot member, and an unlocked position permitting separation of the blade and pivot member.

  • Patent number: 5478178
Abstract: A high speed rotary boring tool has a plurality of cutter inserts evenly spaced around the circumference of a boring bar. Each cutter insert is individually adjustable so that its cutting tip is spaced a desired distance from the tool rotational axis. Each cutter insert is mounted so that its leading face has a zero rake angle in the axial direction, and a negative rake angle in the radial direction. The cutting tip on each insert is defined by two chamfer surfaces on the intersecting edges of the insert leading face, such that each chamfer surface acts as a chip-deflector surface. The boring tool is designed for cutting action during axial feed into the hole and also during axial feed out of the hole.

  • Patent number: 5396693
Abstract: A removable boring tool cartridge has a cylindrical tool carrier axially adjustable in a bore in a cartridge housing by means of an adjusting screw having a head rotatably adjustable in the bore of an annular thrust bearing, which is secured around the outside thereof in one end of the bore in the housing by an injection molded plastic safety ring. The adjusting screw has an externally threaded shank that projects in radially spaced coaxial relation into a bore in one end of the tool carrier, to the opposite end of which is fastened an insert holder. A plastic sleeve nut is injection molded into the radial space in the bore in said tool carrier to surround and have driving engagement with the externally threaded shank of said screw.

  • Patent number: 5330297
Abstract: A boring tool comprises a body having, at a free end thereof, two insert holders which are radially adjustable by displacement relative to a groove defined by two opposing boundary surfaces and accommodating two elongate guide lugs on the insert holders. The groove merges, at opposite, parallel edges, into first support surfaces, which are each inclined relative to the tool axis, in a preferred embodiment in a rearward-outward direction from the edge so as to form an acute-angled wedge-shaped portion of material between each of the first support surfaces and a respective groove-defining surface. The support surfaces are each adapted to cooperate with similar, second support surfaces on the holders, the other support surfaces are similarly inclined, more specifically relative to boundary surfaces of the guide lugs, at substantially the same acute angle as the angle between cooperating surfaces of the wedge-shaped portions of the tool body.

  • Patent number: 5326198
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved micrometric device for finishing bores of the type having a substantially cylindrical body in the interior of which are mounted displacement devices that actuate on a tool holder displaceable in the same direction as the radial component of the work force. The displacement devices are provided with a backlash suppression system and a movement transmission mechanism. The movement transmission mechanism is provided with a graduated drum coaxially mounted to a micrometric screw. The micrometric screw is axially and radially supported in relation to the body of the micrometric device by a support system. In accordance with the invention, on an upper threaded extension of micrometric screw, a cylindrical rod is mounted that incorporates at its upper end, an oblique portion or extension set off by an angle in relation to the longitudinal axis of micrometric screw.

  • Patent number: 5320458
Abstract: A cutting tool includes a rotary bar having an arcuate pocket in its side surface, and a segmental carrier arcuately slidable in the pocket to adjust the position of a cutting tip on a cutter blade. The carrier has a second arcuate pocket that slidably receives a segment-shaped shoe, such that the shoe can be arcuately adjusted to control or vary the back taper angle on the blade. The cutting blade is mounted flatwise on one face of the shoe, such that a corner tip on the blade projects beyond the profile of the rotary bar for use in reaming a hole in a workpiece. The adjustment axis of the shoe is coincident with the cutting tip on the reamer blade so that adjusting motions of the shoe do not disturb the position of the cutting tip achieved by arcuate adjustment of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5316417
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved micrometric device for finishing high precision bores. The device has a substantially cylindrical body having a displacement system arranged in an interior thereof. The displacement device actuates on a tool holder which is then displaced in the same direction of the radial component of the workforce. The micrometric device is also provided with a backlash suppression system. In accordance with the present invention, the micrometric device has an upper cylindrical body mounted and fixed to a lower cylindrical body, both of which coaxially envelop a graduated drum. The graduated drum, in turn, is coaxially mounted and connected to a micrometric screw arranged longitudinally in the interior of the micrometric device. In the interior of the micrometric device, and connected to an upper extension of the micrometric screw, a conversion mechanism is arranged which changes a rotating movement of the micrometric screw into a linear movement of a movable crossbeam.
