Abstract: Techniques are provided for a base station to transmit and receive wireless signals via a plurality of remote transceiver stations deployed in a coverage area. The remote transceiver stations are coupled to the base station in order to communicate with wireless mobile devices. A transmission time delay is determined for a message to be transmitted from corresponding remote transceiver stations to a wireless mobile device. Transmission of the message to be wirelessly transmitted from the two or more remote transceiver stations is delayed by a corresponding transmission time delay. The delayed transmissions appear as a resolvable multipath transmission to receivers in the wireless mobile user devices. Techniques are also provided for delaying the processing of uplink transmissions at the base station receiver. Delays associated with downlink or uplink transmissions may also be programmed into individual remote transceiver stations.

Abstract: After a maximum noise rise for a cell is set, a maximum noise rise for each mobile station is allocated within the cell. The actual noise rise from each mobile station within the cell is measured at a base station and signaled to a network. When the cell uses enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH), the contribution to noise rise of E-DCH signaling is determined and received signal code power (RSCP) at the base station is measured. The RSCP measurement is decoded to determine contributions from mobile stations within and outside the cell; contributions from mobile stations within the cell are calculated; and the network is notified of the measured noise rise. In addition a compensation value may be applied to compensate for temperature induced noise.

The method forms at least a first subgroup SC of cells comprising K cells, where K<=M, for coordinated transmission and/or reception between the cells. The network node (310, 610) determines (410, 730) at least one weight aij associated with a first cell Ci and a second cell Cj in the network. The weight a, indicates a radio network characteristic dependent on the cells Ci and Cj. The network node (310, 610) forms (470) the subgroup SC of cells by selecting at most K cells from the M cells, in such a way that a function of the weights aij for each cell Ci and Cj in the subgroup SC is approximately maximized. The received transmissions can include information or channel parameters such as direction of arrival, signal to noise ratio, signal strength, etc., for each sector. Utilizing the parameters transmitted or fed back by the receiver, the transmitter can store control vectors that dictate a beam that can be utilized to commence a beam refinement procedure. In addition, the parameters can be utilized to select and implement a custom sequence to refine the communication channel between the device and the controller. The custom sequence can significantly reduce the time required to create a channel with acceptable qualities such that efficient high speed network communications can be conducted. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for bypassing Bluetooth discovery for devices in a special list. A first Bluetooth device identification (ID) may be stored on a second device. A friendly name may be associated with the stored device ID. The first Bluetooth device ID may be accessed on the second device. An associated friendly name may be displayed as a representation of the first Bluetooth device id. A user of the second device may select to initiate Bluetooth communications with the first device. If so chosen, a Bluetooth communication session may be established between the two devices in a manner that bypasses the Bluetooth discovery process for these devices. In this novel manner, Bluetooth communication sessions may be established with trusted devices. Further, the time and power required for a Bluetooth discovery process may be conserved. In addition, the user interface may be improved over a user interface requiring Bluetooth discovery.

Abstract: A communication method includes establishing a first communication session over a first connection between a wireless terminal and a base station (BS) of a long-range wireless data network, which operates in accordance with a first protocol that defines a sequence of time frames. Based on the time frames defined by the BS, time slots are allocated for establishing a second communication session over a second connection between the wireless terminal and a peripheral wireless device, which operates in accordance with a second, short-range time-slotted communication protocol different from the first protocol. Time intervals are allocated within the time frames for communication between the BS and the wireless terminal over the first connection, such that the allocated time intervals are interleaved with and do not overlap the allocated time slots. The first and second communication sessions are concurrently conducted in the allocated time intervals and the assigned time slots, respectively.
