  • Patent number: 9251515
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for preventing and detecting fraud in the secondary gift card market are disclosed herein. An example system can identify an event associated with a prepaid gift account associated with a secondary market for reselling prepaid gift accounts, the prepaid gift account having a verified initial balance established prior to the event. Based on the event, the system can perform a reverification of the verified initial balance of the prepaid gift account to yield an updated balance. If the verification indicates that the updated balance is different from the verified initial balance, the system can perform a corrective action. The event can be receiving the prepaid gift account, listing the prepaid gift account for sale, transferring the prepaid gift account between parties, converting the prepaid gift account to a different form, an elevated fraud risk, a user request, a regular balance checking interval, or random selection.

  • Patent number: 9027100
Abstract: Advertisements are served over the Internet to clients on demand. A client module executing on a client device fetches advertisements over the Internet from an advertisement server. The client module stores these advertisements in a cache on the client device. When an application executing on the client device needs to display an advertisement, instead of contacting the advertisement server directly, the application makes a call to the client module. The client module, instead of contacting the advertisement server immediately, determines whether the cache on the client device contains any advertisements that satisfy criteria specified by the application. If the cache does contain advertisements that satisfy the criteria, then the client module provides those advertisements to the application. Otherwise, then the client module requests criteria-satisfying advertisements from the advertisement server at that time, and provides at least one of those to the application.

Abstract: Systems and methods have been developed for displaying contextually relevant advertisements to users as media objects are being rendered. One or more data sources with contextual information for different portions of each media object are maintained. From this contextual information, keywords may be generated and used to locate contextually-related advertisements. The advertisements are selected based on contextual information about the media object in order to match or otherwise be contextually relevant with the media content being rendered. As the subject matter of the media object changes during rendering, different advertisements related to the new context are provided that replace the prior advertisement. The advertisements are displayed in an area that could be used for other purposes when the rendering device is not rendering media objects.
