Abstract: A network failover apparatus and method for use in a client-server system. The method includes establishing at least a first and further path between a client and a server. The first path connects the server to the client through a first network and a first interface of the client and the further path connects the server to the client through a further network that is separate from the first network and a further interface of the client. The method also includes reaching the server through the first interface, detecting that the server is no longer reachable through the first interface, and identifying the first interface as failed. The method also includes reaching the server through the further interface after the first interface is identified as failed, testing the first interface to determine whether the server is reachable while the server is reachable through the further interface, and reestablishing a connection to the server through the first interface.

  • Patent number: 7630385
Abstract: Creation of port domains in a multi-chassis system. The multi-chassis system includes two or more chassis that each includes one or more blades. In one embodiment, a sync group of at least two chassis is created, typically by connecting the two or more chassis with an interconnection means such as a sync-cable. Then, two or more ports of the sync group are selected for inclusion in a port domain. The locations of the ports relative to each other is then determined. Finally, a port domain is generated based on the relative locations of the ports and port domain generation rules. If the ports are on separate chassis, then a global domain is generated if a predetermined number of global domains do not already exist and if the ports are on the same chassis, a local domain is generated regardless of the number of global domains.

  • Patent number: 7627788
Abstract: A radio frequency identifier (RFID) active/passive tag is provided to identify failed sub-CRU and location within a higher level CRU. When an error occurs on the base blade or within one of the sub-CRUs, the embedded processor writes failure information to the RFID. RFID tags may also contain data identifying the locations, of the sub-CRUs of the blade. Thus, when there is a failure, the RFID may report the failed component as well as the location of a failed sub-CRU. Sub-CRUs may also include an embedded processor and RFID tag. When a service action is initiated to repair or replace a blade, the RFID tag may be read by a RFID reader. The RFID reader device may then present failure information, including the identification of the failed sub-CRU and other associated information to the operator. The RFID reader device may also request associated information from a server computer.

  • Patent number: 7610513
Abstract: This invention relates to a debug device and method thereof and is applied to detect transmission on a bus in a computer system having a CPU, a north bridge chip and a south bridge chip. The debug device consists of a processing unit, a comparing unit and a recording unit. The processing unit receives a first address signal and a second address signal from the north bridge chip, and correspondingly transmits an index signal and a test data to the north bridge chip. The comparing unit compares the first and the second address signal to generate a comparing signal. And the recording unit records the first and the second address signal and the comparing signal. The north bridge chip connects to the south bridge chip via a bus, and the debug device also connects to the south bridge chip. Therefore the north bridge chip and the debug device transmit to both through the south chip.

The open cable set-top box diagnosing system includes an open cable set-top box for checking its own operation state by using a diagnosis resource by a communication protocol between a point of deployment (POD) separated from the main circuit unit and the main circuit, and a head end for providing a service corresponding to a request signal received from the open cable set-top box or providing a broadcast program to the open cable set-top box, and checking the operation state of the open cable set-top box.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for entering special mode in integrated circuit (IC) or logic circuit are provided. The IC or logic circuit receives a plurality of data bits and a reset signal, wherein the reset signal is used to reset the IC or the logic circuit. The apparatus includes a plurality of registers and a logic circuit. The registers receive the data bits and the reset signal and output the data bits when the reset signal is transferred from a second state to a first state. The logic circuit includes a logic output terminal and a plurality of logic input terminals, wherein the logic input terminals are coupled to the registers respectively and receiving the data bits output from the registers. When the logic input terminals receive a predetermined value, the logic value output from the logic output terminal is transferred to enter the special mode.

Abstract: An aspect based recovery system and method is provided. The state of a device may be defined by one or more aspects of the device. Aspects may include graphical user interface, database, security, user configuration, site configuration, and current user. Using this aspect-based definition, the current state of the device may be monitored. For example, the current state of the system may be determined by examining the aspects which define the state. Moreover, using this aspect-based definition, the current state of the device may be modified. Aspects may be changed so that the state of the system may be changed to a predetermined state.

Abstract: An integrated circuit device having a plurality of embedded processor/controllers and a parallel emulation trace port coupled thereto to provide trace data for debugging the integrated circuit device. A serializer macro is provided within the integrated circuit device to serialize the parallel data from the emulation trace port in order to provide trace data from the IC device in a serial data stream instead of a parallel data stream. A high speed differential serial driver is used to provide the bandwidth required to support the data speeds associated with embedded processors running at high clock rates. An external serial to parallel converter is also provided to convert the high speed serial trace data back to parallel trace data such that the trace data can be input into an emulator in the normal manner. In one embodiment, two serializers are provided within the integrated circuit device to meet data throughput requirements, such as when the IC device has more than one embedded processor/controller.

Abstract: Methods and architectures for performing hardware error handling using coordinated operating system (OS) and firmware services. In one aspect, a firmware interface is provided to enable an OS to access firmware error-handling services. Such services enable the OS to access error data concerning platform hardware errors that may not be directed accessed via a platform processor or through other conventional approaches. Techniques are also disclosed for intercepting the processing of hardware error events and directing control to firmware error-handling services prior to attempting to service the error using OS-based services. The firmware services may correct hardware errors and/or log error data that may be later accessed by the OS or provided to a remote management server using an out-of-band communication channel. In accordance with another aspect, the firmware intercept and services may be performed in a manner that is transparent to the OS.

  • Patent number: 7543183
Abstract: A method and system for automated support in a computer system. The computer system has a service button, and pressing of the service button causes a bit to be set in a register in the chip set. Setting of the bit generates an interrupt signal that is received and processed in a manner dependent on whether the computer system is in a booting state or a non-booting state. If the computer system is in a booting state, the bit is checked at a predetermined point in the booting sequence, and if set, a service application is initiated at that time. If the computer is not in a booting state, a second interrupt is generated, causing the service application to be initiated. A timer is initiated substantially with pressing of the service button, and if the service application reaches a predetermined point before the timer reaches a predetermined value, it will clear the timer. If not, the system will follow a predetermined reboot protocol.

  • Patent number: 7529977
Abstract: Automated extensible user interface testing supports testing of a user interface of a program. Test data is accessed, the test data including multiple test steps. Each test step describes at least a part of a test to be performed on the user interface. For each of the multiple test steps, one or more application program interface (API) methods to invoke to carry out the part of the test is determined. This determination is based at least in part on the test data and on an identification from the API of methods supported by the API. Each of the one or more API methods is then invoked to carry out the part of the test. Verification can be performed to ensure, for example, that specified files were created, or registry values were changed, or user interface elements appear and exist.
