Abstract: Various embodiments include one or more of systems, methods, and software for placing multiple files as a contact sheet, such as image files within an electronic document. A selection of electronic files is received along with a an area input. The area input defines an area to place a graphical representation of at least one of the selected electronic files within an electronic file being authored. Graphical representations of the selected electronic files may then be placed in the defined area.

Abstract: A system gathers information on important and influential people and uses an ontology to build a social graph. The information is organized based on this social graph and provided to users as a service. The system uses ontology models to identify connectivity between entities (e.g., people, organizations, events, and things) in the social graph. Through its ontology, the system can determine, interpret, and represent the relationships of people that occur in the real world.

Abstract: A method for managing a multi-stage workflow may include: 1) displaying representations of the plurality of stages of the multi-stage workflow to the user via a graphical user interface, each representation of a workflow stage from the plurality of stages indicating a completion status of the workflow stage; 2) receiving, at a first stage in the multi-stage workflow, input from the user; 3) determining that the input from the user at the first stage affects a second stage in the multi-stage workflow; 4) in response to determining that the input from the user affects the second stage, changing a completion status of the second stage to an updated completion status; and 5) in response to changing the completion status of the second stage, modifying a representation of the second stage such that the representation of the second stage indicates to the user the updated completing status of the second stage.

Abstract: Status of complex system functions is diagnosed and reported by analyzing traffic on a data network of the complex system. The network traffic may be placed on the data network by systems that perform functions for the complex system. A user may make a view selection via a remote user interface. The view selection identifies rules for determining a status of a selected subset of the functions or a status of selected ones of the functions for a selected state of operation, such as during initial power-up. The status of the functions may be determined from the network traffic using the rules and presented to the user via the user interface. The user may interact with the presentation to make different view selections. Multiple different view selections made via multiple different user interfaces may be supported simultaneously.

Abstract: An original reading system includes an original reading unit, a storage unit, a display portion, a selection unit, and a control unit. The original reading unit reads an image of an original to generate image data. The storage unit stores name data regarding a name that is assigned to the image data. The storage unit can store the image data. The display portion displays a name based on the name data stored in the storage unit. The selection unit selects a name displayed on the display portion. The control unit sets the name selected by way of the selection unit as a name of the image data generated by the original reading unit, and stores the image data into the storage unit.

Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides a content handling system that comprises a digital data store containing a plurality of instruction sets, each defining a content handling workflow. The system further includes a content handling engine in communications coupling with the store, wherein the content handling engine identifies an embedded code in an article of content. The engine executes on at least that article of content one or more of the instruction sets associated with the embedded code. The instruction set can specify, for example, one or more destinations for articles of content (e.g., e-mail addresses, local or network file system folders, and on-line data stores).

Abstract: A word processing system includes an undo function monitor that monitors the history of a user's use of the undo operation. Depending upon the pattern detected, the system disables the particular auto-formatting feature that triggered the undesired automatic operation. In an illustrative embodiment, the system tracks whether a number of undo operations exceeds a programmable threshold. In one illustrative implementation, the system also tracks the number of times a user has undone, i.e., reversed, an automatic formatting operation compared with the number of instances where the user has permitted the subject automatic formatting operation to take place.

Abstract: A system and a method for generating a document and maintaining the integrity of the document includes compiling a superset of data into a data heap from multiple data sources, where the data heap corresponds to a start date and one or more clients. The system generates the document using content elements, which are created using the compiled data, and embeds the content elements into the document. The document then is accessible through an associated software application. The data heap is saved and attached to the document. When the document is modified or edited in any manner, the system automatically saves the modified document as a new version. Additionally, the data heap is synchronized to the associated document and, therefore, is regenerated and saved as a new version along with the modified document.

Abstract: A computer readable storage medium includes executable instructions to receive a request for an action. An action context is received where the action context includes an application requesting the action. A set of metadata is searched for metadata corresponding to the action, where the search is limited by the action context. Selected metadata for the action is inserted into a collection. The selected metadata is a result of searching the set of metadata. The selected metadata includes a reference to the set of executable instructions that implements the action and a description of the action. The collection is then returned.

Abstract: A user data engine residing on an endpoint machine generates a current user context reflecting a specific flow of operations performed by an end-user when interacting with a software application. A context engine residing on a sever machine compares the current user context to one or more stored user contexts included in a context database and generates a similarity value based on each comparison. A resource engine identifies resources in a resource database that are associated with the stored user contexts and then generates a relevance score for each resource based on the similarity scores corresponding to the stored user contexts with which those resources are associated. The resource engine transmits a resource list reflecting the identified resources to the user data engine based on the relevance scores. The user data engine displays on a display screen of the endpoint machine information associated with resources reflected in the resource list.

Abstract: A client-server computing system includes a computer cluster for hosting certain resources, applications, programs, processes, files, and/or data that are published to users who are accessing the computer cluster remotely. The computer cluster includes a network of one or more host computers, a gateway server, a gateway service database, and a user database. A single sign-on (SSO) method of the disclosure includes performing a computer cluster authentication process in which a user enters his/her credentials followed by a resource authentication process in which there is no need for the user to reenter his/her credentials, having entered them already in the computer cluster authentication process.

Abstract: Automated electronic document design systems and method for designing and modifying product templates. When a user initiates a product design session, a product template is presented for user editing and a product description identifier is assigned to the product being designed. Document templates are assembled from individual composite elements. The individual identifiers of the component elements that make up the template being viewed by the user are associated with the description identifier. Tools are provided to allow a user to change one or more of the composite elements of the template. When a user changes an element, the identifier of the newly selected element is associated with the description identifier. Component elements of one template can be individually used, as appropriate, to prepare customized templates for another part of the same document or for different documents.

Abstract: In various embodiments of the present invention, documents (eg, PDFs) are converted into HTML 5 (and CSS 3) formats and integrated into existing HTML 5 web pages to preserve the original embedded fonts. The fonts can also be integrated or embedded (e.g., via the standard HTML “iframe” tag) into other web pages. The original appearance of the source document is maintained, the text is preserved as searchable text, and the document is integrated into a web page that can be searched, zoomed, scrolled, and printed utilizing standard web browser controls. A significantly increased “ad inventory” is thereby enabled, wherein advertisements can be integrated between pages, or even within a page. Moreover, the resulting document can be passively shared with members of a user's external social networks (including those within the host website), along with other activities and behaviors performed by the user on the hosting website.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image data conversion unit configured to convert print data into bitmap data, a sheet feeding unit configured to store and feed a sheet on which printing is to be performed, a detecting unit configured to detect an orientation of the sheet in the sheet feeding unit, a print unit configured to print the bitmap data onto the sheet fed from the sheet feeding unit, a determination unit configured to determine whether or not a data orientation in which pieces of pixel data of the bitmap data are arranged matches the sheet orientation detected by the detecting unit, and an image rotating unit configured to rotate the bitmap data when the determination unit determines that the data orientation does not match the sheet orientation, whereby the data orientation matches with the sheet orientation.

Abstract: A system for selecting a candidate advertisement for linking to a web page based on the content of the web page. The content of the web page may be automatically determined and then compared to content of the candidate advertisement to determine which candidate advertisement to select. The system can be used to implement a structured advertising system for the World Wide Web. Web pages are searched and indexed, producing indexed content data. This indexed content data is then ranked according to relevancy. The ranked content data are compared to content data of advertisements and an advertisement is selected. The advertisement is then copied onto (linked to) the Web page. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: Systems and techniques to design and deploy portal pages include selectively interpreting a portal page template based on a mode of operation. The interpretation of the portal page template results in presentation of a design-time application operable to edit the portal page template if the mode of operation is design-time, and the interpretation of the portal page template results in presentation of a run-time application operable to interact with portal dynamic content if the mode of operation is run-time. Interpreting the portal page template at design-time can result in code that enables editing of the portal page template being added, and the added code can be client-side scripting that enables addition of a content component to a content container in the portal page template using a drag-and-drop action in a WYSIWYG portal layout editor.

Abstract: A system for and method of enhancing web page delivery and visitor tracking. The invention provides the ability to control redirection of Web traffic of humans. It can identify visitors to a Web page, track their movements, log critical information, and analyze the Web traffic in order to judge the success in driving quality traffic to some known goal on a Web site, such as a sale. The system tracks visitors via use of redirection with an image tag. The invention can also use unique image marker references to prevent browsers from accessing cached images.

Abstract: Documentation having code samples is managed. Documentation describing programming code for a software product is received. The documentation references a code sample having an associated test module for determining whether the code sample is valid. The code sample is tested by executing the associated test module to produce a test result indicating whether the code sample is valid. The documentation, code sample, and test result are stored. The documentation, code sample, and test result may be provided to a client adapted to display the code sample and test result to a user of the client. Invalid code samples in the documentation may be identified using the test modules and the invalid code samples may be replaced to make the code samples valid.

Abstract: An electronic document includes header, view, data, and signature sections. The data section provides data typically processed in transactions involving the electronic document. The view section includes presentation formatting for displays corresponding to the data. Linking elements identify corresponding main data values and view data values respectively used to populate the data section and display presentation formatting, and are accessible for determining whether the data in the display and data section, providing assurances that processed data matches that found in documents used by parties to a transaction. A digital signature section allows a digital signature to be provided, and used to wrap that data and view sections, to ensure authenticity. The header section provides document type, state and other information that is readily accessed without otherwise scanning the electronic document.

Abstract: A method of facilitating the processing of font data for electronic data transfers to client devices includes storing a list of client font capabilities associated with one or more client devices, accessing font data in an electronic data transfer addressed to at least one client device, the at least one client device corresponding to the one or more client devices, comparing the accessed font data to the list of client font capabilities associated with the one or more client devices, and identifying augment font data based on the comparing the accessed font data to the list of client font capabilities associated with the one or more client devices. Augment font data is then included in the electronic data transfer to the at least one client device.

Abstract: A digital signage content management system is provided that uses existing interfaces such as web interfaces and turns existing commercially available graphics programs such as web based tools or locally run programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint® into a digital signage platform to facilitate developing and managing digital signage applications through the creation of smart objects and intelligent templates that are easy to create and easy to modify to suit different applications. This enables digital signage content to be professionally created without requiring custom programming for each and every stream of new and/or changing content. The smart objects and intelligent templates can also be used to provide content with changing elements in real-time.

Abstract: A system and method for providing management such as creation, manipulation, storage, control, and retrieval of digital content for a company on a global basis. Digital content is created and stored in, for example, the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) format using the relationship between component mapping information and content information comprising webpage components. The XML data is developed by defining page components, mapping the components on a page and indexing the page for future retrieval of the page. The data is then stored in a single database, as segments related to the page, for call-up by a user.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating visualizations using tree functionals is described. In one embodiment, the method comprises representing a group of document images using a plurality of visualizations that visualize document layout information for the group of document images based on one or more display device characteristics and based on content of the group of documents, and adapting the plurality of visualizations to an available display by removing one or more visualizations from the plurality of visualizations based on at least two functional values.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide a mechanism to create and traverse inter-document links involving embedded documents. One aspect of the systems and methods includes creating and traversing inter-document links to and from documents that are embedded in a host document. A further aspect of the systems and methods includes creating and traversing inter-document links to an from documents that may be embedded at more than one level in an embedded document hierarchy. A still further aspect of the systems and methods includes creating and traversing inter-document links from a first document to an embedded document in a second document.

Some such views may be interactive or adaptive within the user interface.

Responsive to identifying a similarity between the graphical element and a group of graphical elements among the one or more groups, the graphical element is added to the group of graphical elements. Abstract: A print control apparatus may include a determination unit, a division unit, and a rearrangement unit to process print data impositioned by an application program. The determination unit determines whether at least one of an impositioned appearance indicating an arrangement of logical pages in respective physical pages of the impositioned print data, and a print output attribute, which is an attribute of an output of the impositioned print data, satisfies a division condition set in advance. If the determining unit determines that the impositioned appearance or the print output attribute satisfies the division condition, the division unit divides the impositioned print data in logical-page unit. The rearrangement unit rearranges divided logical pages in an order according to the impositioned appearance. If neither the impositioned appearance nor the print output attribute satisfies the division condition, the impositioned print data is prevented from being divided in logical-page unit.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a parent object may share its assets with its descendent(s) in a hierarchical asset sharing model. The hierarchical asset sharing model may specify a plurality of asset sharing modes. In a first mode, an asset of the parent is imposed on a child. The child is able to utilize the asset, but unable to modify or delete the asset. In a second mode, the child is able to utilize the asset and a copy of the asset is generated when the child attempts to modify the asset. The child can modify the copy of the asset, which is stored as an asset only of the child. The original asset is no longer shared becomes an asset only of the parent. In a third mode, both the parent and the child can utilize and modify the asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for including sheet images of pre-printed inserts in a print preview for a print job. The system is operable to receive a print job, to receive a request for a print preview of the print job, and to rasterize logical pages of the print job to generate sheet images. The system is further operable to identify inserts to be integrated with printed versions of the sheet images of the logical pages, and to include sheet images of the inserts with the sheet images of the logical pages for the print preview.

The ad rendering constraints may include space available for rendering the ads, a footprint available for rendering the ads, and/or a maximum number of ads permitted to be rendered. The act of determining ad rendering parameters may include maximizing a value associated with serving at least one ad from the set of two or more ads with ad rendering parameters subject to the ad rendering constraints. The ad rendering parameters may include sizes of the served ads, and/or a layout of the served ads.

Abstract: A method and system for automated insertion of relevant hyperlinks into social media-based communications whereby a business owner defines one or more trigger terms associated with the business. For each defined trigger term, one or more hyperlinks to one or more webpages associated with the business are assigned to the trigger term. Social media communications associated with one or more social media systems are then monitored, and/or scanned, for the defined one or more trigger terms and, if a trigger term is detected in the text of a social media communication, the hyperlink assigned to the detected trigger term is inserted in the text of social media communication and/or a response to the social media communication. The modified social media communication and/or response to the social media communication, including the modified text, is then sent, and/or posted, through, and/or on, the social media system.

Abstract: A snapshot of a page is stored in response to navigation away from the page. When the user navigates back to the page, the snapshot is displayed while the page is loaded. When the page is sufficiently loaded, the snapshot is replaced by the (fully or partially) loaded page. Determining whether the page is sufficiently loaded is based on monitoring of pre-selected criteria.

Abstract: The disclosed methods and systems provide a computer content creation application that allows movement and use of components between editing contexts. Different editing contexts may result where the content utilizes instances of one or more components that are defined outside the outer context in which the instances are used. In another example, different editing contexts result where components are, for one reason or another, stored in separate locations. Embodiments disclosed herein further facilitate developing and using of multi-editing context computer content by providing techniques for organizing parts of content according to content editing context. Other embodiments organize such parts based on the particular editing and use functionality available in a current editing context. Certain embodiments simplify and facilitate a user's ability to move components from an outer or general context into another context, such as into a particular component's instance definition.

Abstract: A CPU selects multiple objective image data to be pasted on ornamental image data, analyzes the selected multiple objective image data, and rates the image qualities of the respective image data. The CPU specifies the number of plural layout locations included in the ornamental image data and the priority order of the plural layout locations, and allocates the multiple objective image data to the plural layout locations in the ornamental image data, based on the specified priority order and the ratings of the multiple objective image data. The CPU executes image quality adjustment with regard to the multiple objective image data allocated to the plural layout locations and pastes the quality-adjusted image data on the ornamental image data according to layout control information, so as to generate resulting output image data.

Abstract: A method and a system for detecting and extracting images in an electronic document are disclosed. The method includes receiving an electronic document and identifying elements of a page. The identified elements include a set of graphical elements and a set of text elements. The method may include identifying and excluding elements which serve as graphical page constructs and/or text formatting elements. The page can then be segmented, based on (remaining) graphical elements and identified white spaces, to generate a set of image blocks. Text elements that are associated with a respective image block are identified as captions. Overlapping candidate images are then grouped to form a new image. The new image can thus include candidate images which would, without the identification of their caption(s), each be treated as a respective image.

Abstract: A redaction process obtains redaction data indicating content to be redacted in a document. In addition, the redaction process obtains non-redaction data indicating content not to be redacted in the document. Furthermore, the redaction process obtains proximity data indicating proximate expressions to be matched against the document. In this manner, the redaction process processes the redaction data, non-redaction data and proximity data against the document to produce a redact list and a potential list. Upon receiving user selections from both the redact and the potential lists, the redaction process applies a redaction function to the document to produce a redacted version of the document.

Abstract: A system for displaying the listings of files and/or folders in one of a plurality of different views (e.g., gallery view or list view). In particular embodiments, the system determines which of the views to display in the listings in based on: (1) the types of files to be displayed; (2) a specified preference of a content sharer; and/or (3) a specified preference of a content recipient. Various embodiments are particularly useful for displaying lists of files that a content sharer shares with a content recipient via a URL within the context of a synched file sharing system.

Abstract: A device and method provide a user with a template for a message having fields that can be pre-filled with data to reduce the manual entry of data into the message. The method includes, but is not limited to, executing an application at a device, wherein context data including context data items is associated with the executing application, selecting a messaging technology to send a message from the device, selecting a template for the message, wherein the template comprises one or more dynamic fields, selecting a context data item from the context data associated with the executing application, and inserting the selected context data item in the dynamic field to facilitate the creation of a message.
