Abstract: A method of presenting structured information, via software gadgets, based on monitored data in a utility monitoring system. First monitored data is exposed to a network to produce, via a first web service, first structured data. The first monitored data is indicative of utility characteristics measured by a first IED in the utility monitoring system. The first structured data is received over the network and second structured data is received from a network-accessible data storage service. The data storage service has a second web service that exposes second monitored data to produce the second structured data. The first structured data is manipulated, in at least one of the software gadgets, to produce structured information based on the first monitored data, and the structured information is communicated from the at least one software gadget to a web browser for display in a web page by the web browser.

Abstract: A device detects a sequence of sub-events as part of a touch event associated with a view, determines that the sequence does not correspond to one or more predefined sequences of sub-events for the view associated with the touch event, and, in accordance with a determination that the sequence does not correspond to the one or more predefined sequences, sends a touch cancel event to the view associated with the touch event. Also disclosed is a device configured to detect a sequence of sub-events as part of a touch event associated with a view, determine that the sequence does not correspond to one or more predefined sequences of sub-events for the view associated with the touch event, and, in accordance with a determination that the sequence does not correspond to the one or more predefined sequences, cancel the touch event.

Abstract: A user-interface system and method for searching among multiple documents and searching for subsections within individual documents using a single search interface on an input-constrained user device having a screen and a keypad.

Abstract: A presentation generator may access one or more data sources structured into data fields. The user may create or modify a template by inserting one or more tags corresponding to data fields in the template. The template may also have one or more processing instructions for indicating the data sources and how the data sources should be queried. The processing instructions may also indicate how the data is to be grouped across various slides, pages, sections, etc. The generator may build the presentation based on the template, its tags, and its processing instructions. The resulting presentation may be accessed by a user-friendly application, such as a word processor, slide program, spreadsheet, report viewer, or other application. The user may update part or all of the presentation using information on the queries and data sources embedded in the presentation itself.

Abstract: Merging data for use in a workflow application may include providing a user interface that facilitates collecting information from a user such as an indication of a first document and a second document that each include multiple records, a selection of a key indicator field common to both documents, and some indication of which of the two documents is a controlling document. Without the need for the user providing programming instructions, the workflow application joins information from both documents by identifying whether any of the records from the non-controlling document has a key indicator value that matches the key value of a select record from the controlling document. Based on this identifying, the workflow application dynamically generates a merged document which it can then use to perform one or more actions.

Abstract: A workflow application allows users to store, manage, and perform tasks related to workflows comprised of ordered sets of documents. The application provides an interface for creating and managing a workflow. Each document added to the workflow is assigned to a particular position in the workflow. Via the interface, the user saves data defining the workflow. In this manner, the workflow may be shared or preserved for subsequent re-use. The application allows a user to perform various tasks with respect to the workflow. Via an interface control presented by the application, the user instigates such tasks. In response, the application causes the task to be performed for each document in the workflow in an order corresponding to the arrangement of the documents within the workflow. For example, the application may render and print each document in the workflow. Or, the application may generate a combined workflow report.

Abstract: A page of a digitally scanned document and graphical user interface elements (GUI) are displayed. Each GUI element corresponds to a potential flaw within the page and includes an example image of the potential flaw. After the GUI elements are displayed, a user is permitted to select a user-detected flaw present within the page of the digitally scanned document by selecting one of the GUI elements.

Abstract: A system and machine-implemented method for optimizing the displaying of a rich web user interface (UI) to a user, the method including rendering a hidden base node and one or more child nodes within a Dynamic Object Model (DOM) tree structure determining if one or more nodes of the one or more child nodes and the base node represent a useful portion of the rich web UI based on whether the one or more nodes meet a pre-defined set of criteria, and exposing the base node if the one or more nodes represent a useful portion of the rich web UI, causing rendering of the useful portion of the rich web UI by displaying display elements corresponding to each of the base node and the one or more child nodes.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus involve the voluntary transfer or sharing of item(s), such as files or other data, based upon the automatic discovery of recipients, including sender pushing of the items and recipient approval. During use, computing devices advertise their availability for potential receipt of the items and recipients are automatically discovered. The sender attaches the items to a selected recipient, and a size, description, etc. of the items is calculated. Upon a connection between the sending and recipient computing devices, the sending device pushes to the recipient an identifier of the sender and the size, description, etc., so the recipient can determine whether they want to accept transfer. If so, the items are transferred, including display of the progress. If not, the sender is notified of the refusal. Other features contemplate attaching techniques, visual information display, authentication of parties, computer program products, and systems, to name a few.

Abstract: A display control device (110) is provided that increases the speed of a screen transition when acquiring screen data for display via a network. In the display control device (110), the display acquisition section (112) acquires not only display data corresponding to a transition target screen but also light simulation data that has small data size; and displays a simulated screen, which is a screen generated by the screen generation section (111) based on the light simulation data, until a screen based on the display data is displayed, to thereby provide a comfortable operational feeling without making a user feel a delay of a screen transition process, while reducing the memory consumption.

Abstract: A user interface and methods for accessing document presentations are described herein. In one aspect of the invention, an exemplary method of the invention allows a user to directly snapback to a previous accessed document presentation without having to select from a menu of items or go through the intermediate pages. In this method, when a first document presentation is accessed, a first location of the first document presentation is recorded, automatically or manually. Subsequently, when a sequence of additional document presentations originated from the first document presentation is accessed, in response to a first input, without having to select from a menu of items, the first document presentation is directly retrieved from a recorded first location and displayed in a window.

Abstract: The exemplary embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method and computer program products for determining a particular document that initiated a topic of interest in a collection of documents, were each of the documents has contents and a time it was created. The method includes ranking the documents in the collection based on the respective times that the documents were created, ranking the documents based on how similar their respective contents are to the topic of interest and ranking the documents based on originality of their respective contents. The method further includes producing a composite ranking of the documents based on the time, contents, and originality rankings, and then determining the particular document that initiated the topic of interest from the composite ranking.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and machine-readable mediums are disclosed for viewing multiply-dimensioned data. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed which comprises displaying multiply-dimensioned data in a table format, the table format having a plurality of rows, a plurality of columns, and a plurality of cells displaying data, a first column of the plurality of columns including data having at least two hierarchical levels. Data for at least a first set of the plurality of cells is displayed in a graphical format, the first set including cells in the first column, the graphical format of the cells in the first set in the first column indicating a hierarchical level associated with the cell data and a mechanism is displayed for a first one of the rows to display at least one additional row having data in the first column associated with a lower hierarchical level of the first row data.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to classifying pages of an electronic document, such as a scanned book page. OCR software is applied to the contents of the electronic document, revealing semantic information about the content of the electronic document. Software-based features are applied to the semantic information to determine the type of page the electronic document is. Page types may include table of contents (TOC), table of figures (TOF), bibliography, index, or other types of pages commonly found in a book, magazine, or other publication. Once determined, the determined page type is stored and used by other software engines.

Abstract: A server device receives modular topics, where each of the modular topics includes a machine-readable and machine-storable work product that includes information related to a single, stand-alone topic. The server device stores the modular topics in a content repository as a topic library. The server device receives selection of topics from the topic library to generate one or more customized pathway pages, where each of the customized pathway pages includes a plurality of links to ones of the stored modular topics. The server device enables access to the modular topics stored in the content repository via the generated one or more customized pathway pages.

Abstract: Techniques are provided that allow users to collaborate in relationship to data views, application displays, applications or events. A user can type in a text view related to a specific view in an application display, and the information is shared with other users that take part in sharing that view. A user that expresses an interest in an event is notified about the event and has the capability to interact, in relation to the event, with other users (e.g. by text). The particular form of interaction (and sharing) can be selectively specified. This interaction is comparable to a dynamic bulletin board where the subject is event driven, and where a user can specify who are allowed to participate. In the case of an event interest(s), users specify their interest (e.g. in other user application events or system events) and the system automatically alerts them to the occurrence of the event.

Abstract: Embodiments herein include a content manager that constructs vocabulary from the PDF form fields to classify documents. The content manager can associate a PDF form with a markup language schema (such as an XML Schema) so that PDF form fields are semantically bounded with XML schema elements. The XML schema elements can define semantics of form fields and specify other constraints on XML elements and attributes. The content manager then associates selected form fields from the PDF form with a content folder to construct a set of properties to apply to inbound PDF form data to classify documents.

Abstract: A system detects hidden elements in a document that includes a group of elements. The system may identify each of the elements in the document and create a structural representation of the document. The structural representation may provide an interconnection of the group of elements in the document. The system may also determine whether one or more elements of the group of elements are hidden based at least in part on locations or other attributes or properties of the one or more elements in the structural representation.

Abstract: A preprocessing section binarizes input image data and calculates a total black pixel ratio. A feature extracting section detects connected components included in the binary image data and detects circumscribing bounding boxes of the connected components. Predetermined connected components are removed from all of the connected components based on the sizes of the detected circumscribing bounding boxes and bounding box black pixel ratios. By using the connected components that remain after removing the unnecessary connected components, a histogram is generated by specifying the sizes of the circumscribing bounding boxes as classes and numbers of the connected components as the frequencies of occurrence. A determining section determines whether the input image data is document image data or non-document image data based on information related to the generated histogram and the total black pixel ratio.

A differencing-and-merging system for tree-structured documents of one embodiment of the invention includes a difference processing unit and a merging processing unit. The differencing processing unit performs a difference operation on at least two tree-structured documents, in accordance with difference configuration information regarding the documents. The merging processing unit performs a merging operation on the tree-structured documents from correspondence information generated by the difference processing unit, based on the difference operation configuration information regarding the documents. The correspondence information indicates differences among nodes of the documents.

Abstract: Techniques for allowing multiple organizations to register form templates at a central repository are provided. The form templates are then available for other organizations that require filled-out forms to be processed. Each organization registers a different form template with a cloud service. Later, other organizations upload, to the cloud service, scanned versions of filled-out forms. For each uploaded scan data, the cloud service determines which form template best matches the format of the uploaded scan data. The cloud service extracts certain values from the scan data based on the matching form template. The cloud service stores the extracted values in association with the organization that sent the scan data. The cloud service allows other devices to retrieve the extracted values.

Abstract: An application for a system for providing a customized digital yearbook includes a server, a personal computer connected to the server and a user device for presenting content on a display. Yearbook software creates yearbook user accounts for users of the system and, after the yearbook software creates each yearbook user account, the yearbook software communicates with social network software and the social network software creates a corresponding social network user account. The yearbook software receives yearbook data from the personal computer through the network and stores the yearbook data in the database and the yearbook software extracts approved yearbook data, that data being a subset of the yearbook data that is approved for distribution. The social networking software provides features such as maintaining buddy lists, posting text, messages, images and/or video, messaging between buddies, and displaying of the postings of yourself and others.

In the method, an application including applicant identifier information identifying an applicant is received by a computing device. The applicant identifier information is extracted from the received application. A query to a database including the extracted applicant identifier information is created and sent to a database system using a network. The database system stores data associated with the extracted applicant identifier information. A response to the query is received from the database system using the network. The response includes data associated with the applicant's qualification to perform a task. Whether or not the applicant is qualified to perform the task is determined by comparing the data associated with the applicant's qualification to a predetermined qualification criterion.

Abstract: A computer receives a user request to replace a first text string with a second text string in a first document and a second document, respectively, wherein the first text string in the first document has a first content type and the first text string in the second document has a second content type that is different from the first content type. The computer substitutes the second text string for the first text string in the first document and the second document, wherein the replacing second text string in the first document has the first content type and the replacing second text string in the second document has the second content type.

Abstract: A custom function is defined at engineering time for implementing actions to be executed in case of a disconnection event in which a client is unable to communicate with a server. At engineering time, code specifying the action to be implemented by the custom function is written into a function file that is stored on the web-server. Subsequently at run time, a browser running on a client requests a certain page to be displayed from the web-server. Abstract: Context-based timelines can be generated for an item in an electronic catalog by extracting contextual terms and item events corresponding to the item. The contextual terms can be used to retrieve historical data on historical events from a data repository. The historical data can be associated with at least some of the contextual terms. A context-based timeline can be generated that includes at least some of the historical events. The context-based timeline can be output for presentation to one or more users.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a presentation to a display client. In one illustrative embodiment, the display client can be an IP phone. The presentation can be provided over a network from a central location without requiring end user action at the IP phone. The presentation can be modified for optimal display based on the capabilities of the specific IP phone without affecting the quality of the presentation for other device types. The devices capable of viewing the presentation can include desk display telephones, cellular telephones, smart phones, portable computers, PCs, and possibly other appropriate network-enabled devices. Centrally controlled presentations can be pushed to an individual device, group of devices, and/or all devices site-wide. In some applications, the display client can be used to provide user selections in response to the provided presentation.

Abstract: Tools and techniques are described for multi-threaded processing for opening and saving documents. These tools may provide load processes for reading documents from storage devices, and for loading the documents into applications. These tools may spawn a load process thread for executing a given load process on a first processing unit, and an application thread may execute a given application on a second processing unit. A first pipeline may be created for executing the load process thread, with the first pipeline performing tasks associated with loading the document into the application. A second pipeline may be created for executing the application process thread, with the second pipeline performing tasks associated with operating on the documents. The tasks in the first pipeline are configured to pass tokens as input to the tasks in the second pipeline.

Abstract: A computer displays a portion of a document to a user. Upon receiving a user-specified text string that includes multiple search keywords, the computer identifies a chunk within the document that satisfies the search keywords and displays the identified chunk to the user, wherein terms in the identified chunk that match the search keywords are either ordered differently from the search keywords in the user-specified text string or separated from one another by at least one term not matching any of the search keywords.

The system and method process a text string within an object stored in memory to identify a first potential place name. The system and method determine whether geographic location coordinates are known for the first potential place name. The system and method identify the first potential place name associated with an object in the memory as a place name. The system and method tag the first identified place name associated with an object in the memory with its geographic location coordinates, when the geographic location coordinates for the first identified place name are known. The system and method disambiguate place names when multiple place names are found.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for selectively displaying content corresponding to web page elements. A web page element can comprise one or more DIV tags that may be used to encapsulate and identify other elements and information. The first name and the first address of the element are stored. In a receiving operation, a display request to visibly display the element, is received. A received display request identifies the first name or the first address, or both, of the element. In response to receiving the display request, content associated with the first address, and at least a portion of the content comprising the identified element are retrieved. The content to obtain the identified element is parsed, and the identified element is subsequently displayed.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system for processing character data is provided, which selects a format of the character data to be used for generating print data. When a user instruction for printing character data according to character command data specifying the output of the character data is received, the format of the character data is selected based on the character command data.

Abstract: Methods and systems for performing a scroll operation are disclosed. A method may include displaying a first page of a portable document format (pdf) document on a browser window, associating respective thumbnails with each of the pages in the pdf document, and displaying two or more of the respective thumbnails overlaid on the first page. The method may also include receiving an indication to scroll the pdf document in a first direction, scrolling the pages of the pdf document at a first rate in the first direction, and scrolling the respective thumbnails of each of the pages at a second rate, different than the first rate, in the first direction. The varying scroll rate of the document and its corresponding thumbnails provides the user with different viewing options to view the document when performing a scrolling operation.

Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with embodiments presented facilitate packaged print data processing. In some embodiments, an initial fragment of print data is parsed to determine if the print data occurs in the form of an OPC print package. If the print data is an OPC package, a language processor for a PDL is invoked using a language entry point function for the PDL, which can be determined using a text string that is present in the print job filename and in a Content Types list in a Content Types file associated with the OPC package. If the PDL language processor cannot be determined using the Content Types list then a language entry point may be determined using a file extension associated with the print job.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for resolving inter-page nodes in flow diagrams is presented. In one embodiment, an inter-page node in a flow diagram is identified. An inter-page node is a node laid out on a page break in a multi-page flow diagram. A set of candidate pages is formed. A bid for each page in a set of candidate pages is requested from each policy in a set of page break policies. A page is selected from the set of candidate pages based on bids received from the set of page break policies. A value of each bid indicates a level of suitability of each page in the set of candidate pages. The inter-page node located on the page break is moved to a new location on the selected page. The new location on the selected page is located off of all page breaks for the flow diagram.
