Abstract: An annotation system includes first annotation data for annotating a manifestation of a first instance of a first XML document. The first instance of the first XML document is served by a document system. The first annotation data includes a first XML document identifier for the first XML document. The first annotation data is uniquely identified by a first annotation data identifier. The document system is configured to respond to a request containing the first XML document identifier with a manifestation of a second instance of the first XML document. The annotation system: (A) receives a request containing the first annotation data identifier; (B) issues a request containing the first XML document identifier to the document system; and (C) in response to the request containing the first annotation data identifier, manifests the first annotation data in connection with a manifestation of a second instance of the XML document.

Abstract: A cooperative rendering cache browser (CRC-Browser) for a mobile device may cooperatively manage cached content with a proxy server to reduce redundant transmissions of processed Web data. Additionally, the CRC-Browser may provide stateful, thin-client Web browsing to maintain synchronized information about rendering objects of a Web page. Further, the CRC-Browser may cache only stable and/or visible document object model (DOM) elements and communicate a list of IDs of the cached elements to the proxy. Such stateful thin-client browsers may be useful for reducing battery drain, poor responsiveness, and high wireless network costs of mobile Web browsing.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein include a trail generator for implementing a content trail associated with selected data pages. The trail generator retrieves references to data pages selected from the Internet from storage and generates a content trail for the data pages selected from the Internet. The content trail is generated using the references by organizing the references into a user-defined, ordered sequence in the content trail and interconnecting the reference using user-assigned relationships to define at least one path in the content trail that is navigable by a viewer.

Abstract: A method for processing a page character array finds links and creates link groups containing adjacent link characters. Adjacency of link characters is preferably defined as characters which are separated by any combination of no characters, blank space characters, line feed characters, or separator characters, such as vertical or horizontal separator bars or other separator characters. Once link groups have been defined, the method lays out each link group for display in an optimized form. Links are displayed as buttons. An optimized form of display includes centering all the buttons in a vertical list. Another optimized form of display includes laying out the link group as a rectangular matrix of buttons. According to another aspect, each of the links in a link group are logically mapped to a distinct user input, such as a key or voice command. The logical mapping aspect and optimized display aspect are optionally combined for certain types of hardware.

Abstract: A method for providing a link in an electronic apparatus capable of reproducing contents, includes storing a first part of a first contents in a link storage area, forming a link between a second part of a second contents and the first part stored in the link storage area, and if the link is selected, displaying the first part while a contents screen including the second part is displayed. Accordingly, a user may easily find related contents from among contents stored in the electronic apparatus as a link is formed between related contents.

Abstract: An electronic book system provides interfaces particularly suited to students' use of textbooks. A finger press on a touch screen produces a contextual menu with user choices that relate to where the finger was pressed or what the user was recently doing with the book. A student provisionally navigates through a book by a specific gesture which, when it stops, returns the user to the previous position in the book. Annotations are displayed and hidden using specific gestures and through selective movement of the reader as sensed by its accelerometer.

Abstract: A document repository management system for an institution having a defined organization is provided. The document repository management system has (a) a first database containing an organization chart and organizational chart information including information identifying individuals in the defined organization, (b) a second database containing accessible documents, (c) programs for controlling requested access to each document of the accessible documents in the second database, and (d) programs for mapping, to the organization chart and the organizational chart information of the first database, each requested access to each document of the accessible documents, thereby enabling efficient management of the document repository based on historical tracking of actual usage of each document by individuals and groups on the organization chart.

Abstract: Techniques for grouping hyperlinked documents are provided. Links near or in the neighborhood of the hyperlinked documents are analyzed in order to group the hyperlinked documents by topic. For example, links that are search results can be grouped by identifying other hyperlinked documents that have multiple forward links to the search results. The search results can then be grouped according to the forward links of the other hyperlinked documents.

Abstract: A related word presentation device includes a program information storage unit that stores program information of each program; and an information dividing unit that generates, for each of the attributes of the words included in the program information, at least one group which includes a reference word belonging to the attribute and a set of words which co-occur with the reference word in a program. A degree-of-relevance calculating unit stores attribute-based association dictionaries each of which indicates, for the corresponding attribute of words, (i) the words and (ii) the degrees of relevance between the words calculated based on the frequency of co-occurrence in each of groups. A search condition obtaining unit obtains the search word and the attribute; a substitute word obtaining unit selects substitute words from the attribute-based association dictionary for the obtained attribute; and an output unit presents the selected substitute word.

Abstract: A method is provided for maintaining one or more operations to restore an original state of a document in an undo stack. The document may include a graphics object. The method may further provide for receiving a selection for an operation to be performed on the graphics object and utilizing the undo stack to modify the original state of the document based on the operation to create a first preview. The first preview may be displayed in a display area of a display device before the operation is committed.

Abstract: A user interface for selecting an audience segment from a pool of tracked entities based on an aggregate similarity of the audience segment to an archetypical audience. A graphical representation illustrating a relationship between a composite index for the audience segment and an audience segment size are displayed to the user. User input indicating the archetypical audience and the audience segment is received by a system and the audience segment is assembled. The composite index and the audience segment size associated with the audience segment, are determined and displayed.

Abstract: A document analyzer and presenter is capable of automatically analyzing and formatting unformatted documents and presenting them to the user. The document analyzer and presenter may be implemented on a single computer or over a plurality of electronic devices connected to each other by a network. Formatted documents are presented to the user in a viewing window. Key sections and terms are hyperlinked to each other and the user's history of actions are tracked and displayed to the user.

In an operating platform having an operating platform configuration and an associated locale, a locale and operating platform independent font selection method can include parsing a pre-established font properties file to identify whether a desired font referenced in the font properties file supports at least one of the operating platform configuration and the associated locale. Consequently, if it is indicated within the font properties file that the desired font supports either or both of the operating platform configuration and the associated locale, the desired font can be utilized in the operating platform.

Abstract: A translation management system in a computer environment. A preferred embodiment of the invention automatically detects when a document, data stream, or non-text file in the master language has been updated and notifies the user which corresponding documents, data streams, or non-text files in the other languages require translation which are then staged and dynamically routed and sequenced to individual translation resources where the actual translation is performed. Management status, reporting, scheduling, and accounting information is sent to the user as the translation process ensues. The user is notified of the completion of translation and the invention coordinates the delivery of the translated documents, data streams, or non-text files back to the user's site for installation and optional review. The invention makes a variety of translation resources instantly available to the user which include both automated translation tools as well as human translators.

Abstract: The present inventors, devised among other things, an exemplary method of researching provisions of contracts. The exemplary method entails receiving user selection of one or more predefined queries for contractual precedents, and executing a search of one or more databases containing agreements based on the received user selection. After executing the search, the method entails displaying a subset of the search results based on a predefined filter stored in association with an identifier for the user. The predefined filter may filter based on traits such as jurisdiction, deal size, industry, or a list of companies.

The method includes acquiring contrast elements and topic elements which need to be highlighted, acquiring colors of the contrast elements and layout information of the topic elements and the contrast elements in the chart, determining a plurality of combinatorial contrast policies for the colors of the contrast elements according to a color contrast standard, calculating weights of the combinatorial contrast policies using the layout information, and determining highlighting colors of the topic elements according to the combinatorial contrast policies and their weights. A highlighting color can be selected automatically for the information that needs attention, so that the user can determine information that should be specially noted without having professional knowledge about color, saving time and energy.

Abstract: Various embodiments described herein include systems, methods, software, and data structures of and for authoring and presentation of package files. Some such embodiments include instantiating a package file and receiving a presentation specification to include in the package file, the presentation specification displayable within a media playing application to provide a representation of display elements defined in the package file. Such embodiments may further include receiving content files, defining display elements for each content file, and associating each content file with a respective display element. A package file may then be generated, published, and/or displayed as a function of the presentation specification.

Abstract: A method for assembling a document generates a set of candidate content items for inclusion in the document. The content items may be stored in a computer-readable storage medium. A set of production criteria for printing the candidate content items as a document may be selected. An inclusion constraint is automatically applied to the set of production criteria. If the set of production criteria does not satisfy the inclusion constraint, a conflict may be resolved. One or more production criteria in the set may be identified that may be modified. A user selection of at least one production criteria that may be modified may be received. The identified production criteria may be modified according to the user selection. A document may be created that includes the modified production criteria and the candidate content items. The document may be published.

Several of these embodiments utilize a unified frame buffer management system, to facilitate better memory management in decoding and displaying compressed video. One approach describes a method of decoding and displaying compressed video data. The method involves receiving a compressed video frame, and allocating a frame buffer for use in decoding the compressed video frame. A frame identifier is assigned to the allocated frame buffer. The document path can be a path in a hierarchical structure that includes the document and the respective web browser window. Abstract: Methods, devices and an associated application programming interface are described that permits a user to register event tap routines (“ETRs”) with an application such as, for example, a window server application. Event tap routines permit events such as human interface device events to be processed at multiple points and in a manner not provided during normal window server operations. Event tap routines may effect passive or active event responses. Passive ETRs may merely record the occurrence of an event or the time between successive events without modifying or altering the event's processing sequence within a window server. Active ETRs, on the other hand, effect some programmatic response to an event. For example, active ETRs may modify the state of an event, delete the event, create one or more additional events or cause the event to be processed “out of sequence” by the window server application.

The component comprises at least a portion of the software to be delivered as a database load to a second system that implements the software platform. The component export tool generates a load delivery package based on the identified database table structures and database table entries and then exports the load delivery package to the second system. A component load tool in the second system generates application tables based on the identified database table structures in the shipment package. The database table entries are then imported into the generated application packages in the load delivery package so that the component can be loaded into the software platform.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for archiving only pertinent portions of a web application. In implementation, the system and method of the invention allows web applications to easily save important areas of a web page that are displayed to the user. The important areas may include, for example, confirmation of a transaction or other sales information. The important areas, also referred to as pertinent portions, are saved as a file on a server, database or other computing device for future reference. The method comprises placing a first scripting tag at a first location in an HTTP document and placing a second scripting tag in a second location in the HTTP document. The text between the first scripting tag and the second scripting tag is rendered and saved into a file upon execution of the HTTP document.

Abstract: An information distribution system reduces the effort required to change an application in conjunction with changes in process content and changes in the receiver type or specifications while also accommodating broadcast processes. A style sheet database stores a plurality of output style sheets, which are information conversion rules including conditional expressions related to information distribution. An integrated device control service acquires output data and receiver information specifying the address of the receiver and the output style sheet corresponding to said receiver. When the output data satisfies the conditional expression contained in the output style sheet, the integrated device control service distributes converted output data, which is the output data converted based on the output style sheet, to the address of the receiver.

Abstract: A system for collaborative presentation documents is provided that is capable of managing slides and elements of the document and modifications to the same using an index based list. Modifications to the document are distributed to multiple users in real time so that the presentation document is updated across all clients to reflect changes by any collaborative user.

Abstract: A printer driver conserves recording paper by removing blank space formed at the top and bottom of each page when printing. The printer driver acquires the coordinates of the top and bottom of the part of the print image, and calculates the page length required to print the middle area between the top and bottom blank space areas based on these coordinates. The print data for printing this middle area is then extracted and printed. When printing is completed, the recording paper is conveyed only the difference between the page length and the transportation distance of the recording paper to set the print head to a position separated only the page length from the printing start position of the area print data, that is, to a position touching the middle area. As a result, blank space between the middle areas of consecutively printed pages is eliminated.

Abstract: A workflow application allows users to store, manage, and perform tasks related to workflows comprised of ordered sets of documents. The application provides an interface for creating and managing a workflow. Each document added to the workflow is assigned to a particular position in the workflow. Via the interface, the user saves data defining the workflow. In this manner, the workflow may be shared or preserved for subsequent re-use. The application allows a user to perform various tasks with respect to the workflow. Via an interface control presented by the application, the user instigates such tasks. In response, the application causes the task to be performed for each document in the workflow in an order corresponding to the arrangement of the documents within the workflow. For example, the application may render and print each document in the workflow. Or, the application may generate a combined workflow report.

Abstract: A presentation generator may access one or more data sources structured into data fields. The user may create or modify a template by inserting one or more tags corresponding to data fields in the template. The template may also have one or more processing instructions for indicating the data sources and how the data sources should be queried. The processing instructions may also indicate how the data is to be grouped across various slides, pages, sections, etc. The generator may build the presentation based on the template, its tags, and its processing instructions. The resulting presentation may be accessed by a user-friendly application, such as a word processor, slide program, spreadsheet, report viewer, or other application. The user may update part or all of the presentation using information on the queries and data sources embedded in the presentation itself.

Without the need for the user providing programming instructions, the workflow application joins information from both documents by identifying whether any of the records from the non-controlling document has a key indicator value that matches the key value of a select record from the controlling document. Based on this identifying, the workflow application dynamically generates a merged document which it can then use to perform one or more actions.
