Abstract: A data converting apparatus includes: a display image producing section that receives a file including one or more records in each of which records print data for one or more pages is described so as to produce image data for displaying; a preview displaying section that displays an image based on the image data produced in the display image producing section, and receives a designation by a user operation as to whether or not printing on a record basis or on a page basis is required; and a print image producing section that produces image data for printing with respect to the record or page which is designated to be printed by the preview displaying section.

Abstract: The disclosed methods and systems provide a computer content creation application that allows movement and use of components between editing contexts. Different editing contexts may result where the content utilizes instances of one or more components that are defined outside the outer context in which the instances are used. In another example, different editing contexts result where components are, for one reason or another, stored in separate locations. Embodiments disclosed herein further facilitate developing and using of multi-editing context computer content by providing techniques for organizing parts of content according to content editing context. Other embodiments organize such parts based on the particular editing and use functionality available in a current editing context. Certain embodiments simplify and facilitate a user's ability to move components from an outer or general context into another context, such as into a particular component's instance definition.

Abstract: A method and a system for detecting and extracting images in an electronic document are disclosed. The method includes receiving an electronic document and identifying elements of a page. The identified elements include a set of graphical elements and a set of text elements. The method may include identifying and excluding elements which serve as graphical page constructs and/or text formatting elements. The page can then be segmented, based on (remaining) graphical elements and identified white spaces, to generate a set of image blocks. Text elements that are associated with a respective image block are identified as captions. Overlapping candidate images are then grouped to form a new image. The new image can thus include candidate images which would, without the identification of their caption(s), each be treated as a respective image.

Abstract: A CPU selects multiple objective image data to be pasted on ornamental image data, analyzes the selected multiple objective image data, and rates the image qualities of the respective image data. The CPU specifies the number of plural layout locations included in the ornamental image data and the priority order of the plural layout locations, and allocates the multiple objective image data to the plural layout locations in the ornamental image data, based on the specified priority order and the ratings of the multiple objective image data. The CPU executes image quality adjustment with regard to the multiple objective image data allocated to the plural layout locations and pastes the quality-adjusted image data on the ornamental image data according to layout control information, so as to generate resulting output image data.

Abstract: A redaction process obtains redaction data indicating content to be redacted in a document. In addition, the redaction process obtains non-redaction data indicating content not to be redacted in the document. Furthermore, the redaction process obtains proximity data indicating proximate expressions to be matched against the document. In this manner, the redaction process processes the redaction data, non-redaction data and proximity data against the document to produce a redact list and a potential list. Upon receiving user selections from both the redact and the potential lists, the redaction process applies a redaction function to the document to produce a redacted version of the document.

Abstract: A system for displaying the listings of files and/or folders in one of a plurality of different views (e.g., gallery view or list view). In particular embodiments, the system determines which of the views to display in the listings in based on: (1) the types of files to be displayed; (2) a specified preference of a content sharer; and/or (3) a specified preference of a content recipient. Various embodiments are particularly useful for displaying lists of files that a content sharer shares with a content recipient via a URL within the context of a synched file sharing system.

Abstract: In a pen-based computing system, a user-specific smart pen application is created from a template application using customer authoring tools. The template application contains computer program code that is to be executed by a processor of a smart pen. Application content and a representation for printed content are received. The application content, provided by user or customer, defines functional interactions between the printed content representation and a smart pen. The template application is combined with application content to generate a user-specific application comprising instructions for being executed on a processor of a smart pen. The user-specific application is stored on a storage medium.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a service on a scannable document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of the scannable document and an adhesive surface is on another side of the scannable document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field specified substantially within the printable surface, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service code and a user identification number; and a printed rectilinear border surrounding the printed data field to define a rectilinear iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is located by identifying the printed rectilinear border using corner candidates oriented in diametric opposition from among connected components identified on the document and the scanned representation of the machine-readable marks are decoded from the rectilinear iconic representation to specify the user identification number and the service code.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of a document and an adhesive surface is on an other side of the document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service and a user identity; and a printed border surrounding the printed data field to define an iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is decoded from the iconic representation to specify the user identity and the service.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for monitoring and detecting changes in files attached to incoming emails. In one embodiment, if files are attached to an outgoing email, the change service uniquely tags each of the attached files and optionally stores local or remote copies of the tagged files. Additionally, in embodiments, the change service monitors and intercepts incoming emails. If files are attached to an incoming email, the change service identifies whether the files are tagged in a manner unique to the compare service. The change service then matches uniquely tagged files in the incoming email to corresponding files previously tagged by the change service. The change service then compares the two documents and generates reports that identify changes in the received document in relation to the transmitted document. Further, in embodiments, the change service provides visual indicators of the changes within the email application.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for composing and managing a presentation in a virtual world. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for composing and managing a presentation in a virtual world can include arranging a set of slides in a presentation, selecting a location in a portion of a virtual world for displaying the slides and also for attendee avatars viewing the slides, composing movements and gestures of a presenter avatar in coordination with a display of slide content of the slides, and presenting the presentation in the location of the virtual world at the location selected for displaying the slides for the attendee avatars placed the selected location for the attendee avatars while applying the composed movements and gestures of the presenter avatar coordinated with a display of slide content of the slides.

Abstract: Provided herein are exemplary embodiments of a system and method of enabling a content author, such as an instructor, to rapidly create interactive, educational content for use in an online environment, without a costly pre-production or post-production process. In one embodiment, the system comprises a network, a library of interactive template files in a first file format, such as .swf; at least one authoring device coupled to the network, capable of recording a plurality of audio visual content segments in a second file format, such as .avi, and providing one or more of the interactive template files; and a device for converting the audio visual content segments in the second file format to files in the first file format. The authoring device is also adapted to assign a defined run order to the files in the first file format.

Abstract: A system and method for performing real-time conversion of data which is present in the form of messages on JMS-compliant or other messaging systems into database transactions, which can then subsequently be applied to multiple heterogeneous databases or other systems. In accordance with an embodiment, the invention provides a means by which data can be read from messages, and converted to a set of database operations that are then stored as a persistent trail file (for example, as an Oracle GoldenGate trail file). The operations, as recorded in the trail file, can then be routed via a network and applied to target systems as required. In accordance with an embodiment, the data can be read in real-time from the messaging system, and written out as quickly as it can be consumed to the persistent trail files.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for authoring a web page template. A software code authoring tool is provided that enables authoring of source code that defines a Web site template. An improved template design and content management solution is provided that enables a user-friendly way for an author to create a web page template from a pre-existing output presentation. For instance, an authoring tool enables the author to designate what regions in a pre-existing web page are to be editable in a template created from the web page, wherein the editable regions of the template may be edited by a user interacting with an authoring tool.

Abstract: A user can create an online presentation by receiving audio and/or video media items from a search and dividing at least one of the audio and/or video media items into smaller time duration segments. The user can then utilize the smaller segments to create the presentation.

A selection of a document to be printed by the printer is accepted, and a request for the selected document is sent from the printer to a remote print preview service. There is a determination of whether the printer supports a native print preview function capable of displaying a visually acceptable print preview on a display unit of the printer. If the printer supports such a native print preview function, the printer requests the remote print preview service to generate a native print preview compatible with the capabilities of the printer and to transmit the generated native print preview to the printer. If the printer does not support such a native print preview function, the printer requests the remote print preview service to generate a print preview for an alternate display device, and to transmit the generated print preview to the alternate display device.

A first copy of the event may be compared to a second copy of the event to determine whether properties between the events are out-of-sync. If so, a standard meeting request message comprising the correct value may be sent to update the out-of-sync property.

Abstract: Correct detection of embedded content type enables an operating system to launch the correct program to handle the embedded content. A page retrieval module retrieves an HTML page from a server, the contents of which are parsed by a parsing module. An embedded content analyzer gathers information from the parsed page about content embedded within the web page and proceeds to determine the type of content that is embedded. Content type is determined by analyzing various parameters such as a type specified by the web page, content type provided by an HTTP response, known file extensions present in a URL associated with the content or with the name of the file itself, and by sniffing the file. In one embodiment, the results of each analysis are weighted and a determination is made based upon the weighted total of results.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for determining a color palette model from an image of a document. Pixel values of the image of the document are clustered to provide image clusters. Color layers of the image are determined, each color layer corresponding to an image cluster. Aspects of the color palette model can be determined using the color layers. Aspects of the color palette model include a foreground-background color pair for a content block in the document and a background-area color of the document.

Abstract: A customized digital yearbook system includes advertisements that are inserted into each of the individual customized yearbooks. Preferably, a fee is paid by the advertisers for keeping the advertisements in the individual customized yearbooks for a period of time, which is renewable. If not renewed, in some embodiments, a new advertiser pays a fee and the advertisements are replaced with new advertisements from the new advertiser(s).

Abstract: Techniques are provided that allow users to collaborate in relationship to data views, application displays, applications or events. A user can type in a text view related to a specific view in an application display, and the information is shared with other users that take part in sharing that view. A user that expresses an interest in an event is notified about the event and has the capability to interact, in relation to the event, with other users (e.g. by text). The particular form of interaction (and sharing) can be selectively specified. This interaction is comparable to a dynamic bulletin board where the subject is event driven, and where a user can specify who are allowed to participate. In the case of an event interest(s), users specify their interest (e.g. in other user application events or system events) and the system automatically alerts them to the occurrence of the event.

Abstract: A web-based system, method and program product are provided for adding content to a content object stored (e.g., a custom compilation or prepublished work) in a data repository as a group of hierarchically related content entities. Each noncontainer content object is preferably stored as a separate entity in the data repository. Each content entity is also stored as a row in a digital library index class as a collection of attributes and references to related content entities and containers. As the user selects desired objects for inclusion in a content object, the system arranges the objects hierarchically, e.g., into volumes, chapters and sections according to the order specified by the user. The system then creates a file object (e.g., a CBO) defining the content object that contains a list or outline of the container and noncontainer entities selected, their identifiers, order and structure. This file object is stored separately in the data repository.

Abstract: A document processing system for accurately and efficiently analyzing documents and methods for making and using same. Each incoming document includes at least one section of textual content and is provided in an electronic form or as a paper-based document that is converted into an electronic form. Since many categories of documents, such as legal and accounting documents, often include one or more common text sections with similar textual content, the document processing system compares the documents to identify and classify the common text sections. The document comparison can be further enhanced by dividing the document into document segments and comparing the document segments; whereas, the conversion of paper-based documents likewise can be improved by comparing the resultant electronic document with a library of standard phrases, sentences, and paragraphs. The document processing system thereby enables an image of the document to be manipulated, as desired, to facilitate its review.

Abstract: The report generation support system according to the embodiment comprises an input history recording part, operation history recording part, selection part, extraction part, and a display controller. The input history recording part records findings input at the time of generating a medical report and, by linking with an input start time and/or finish time of the findings. The operation history recording part records, as an operation history, the type of operation conducted on an image at the time of generating a report and the time when the operation was conducted by linking with the operated image. The selection part selects at least a part of findings in a report. The extraction part extracts a focus image in the selected findings, based on an input start time and/or finish time of the findings corresponding to the selected location, and the contents of the operation history of the corresponding time.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for generating visual media search results are provided. A search query in a first language is received. A plurality of languages are identified. It is determined whether a language should be selected by translating the search query into translated terms in the language, determining a score for each translated term measuring how common the translated term is, and using the scores to determine if the language should be selected. A second language is selected from the plurality of different languages by selecting the considered language if it should be selected and otherwise selecting the second language according to a criterion. A set of one or more search results are generated based on the search query and a translation of the search query into the second language. The results are ordered based on a quality of results statistic for the translated query.

Abstract: Architecture that facilitates the attachment of multiple visualization types (e.g., charts) to the data of a grid and the presentation of the visualization next to the grid. The infrastructure allows each data view to be associated with a set of visualizations. These visualizations are rendered along with the grid (in a separate presentation pane) so that the user does not have to switch context to perform analysis. The visualizations available include charts that show aggregate and/or non-aggregate data. In a server farm scenario, all user interactions such as drill-downs are provided. Server farm drill-downs for these visualizations can be obtained using MHTML (MIME hypertext markup language). The visualizations can be automatically updated when filters are applied on the grid, and when drill-down is performed on the visualization, the grid is automatically updated. The visualizations can be consumed from a web-based browser client and/or thick client, for example.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for generating visual media search results are provided. A first visual media search query in a first language is received. One or more bilingual refinements are identified for the first visual media search query. Each bilingual refinement associates an initial query in the first language and a subsequent query in a different second language. The initial query is equivalent to the first visual media search query. The subsequent query is a translation of the initial query in the second language. The subsequent query followed the initial query in a series of queries received from a user in a session. A first bilingual refinement is selected from the one or more bilingual refinements according to a first criterion. A set of visual media search results is generated based on the first search query and the selected first bilingual refinement's associated subsequent search query.

Abstract: A system and method for managing data repositories may include providing techniques for end users to access and manipulate reports stored in the repositories. Text-based, image-based, or other types of reports may be stored in online and offline repositories, and in response to a search request, reports stored in the online and offline repositories may be retrieved. End users may export report data from text-based and image-based formats by converting the data into a spreadsheet format using various customization techniques. Thus, end users may edit, modify, analyze, or otherwise manipulate information in online and offline reports, while maintaining integrity of the information in the repositories.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) uses a simulated containment report generation mechanism to generate a simulated containment report for elements in the repository based on logged properties that represent potential use of the element during dynamic content delivery that are not represented in formal relationships in the content management system. Properties such as probability, popularity, and recent usage that are not explicit relationships between parent documents and child elements are logged and used to determine which document maps may potentially reuse a selected element. In this manner a simulated containment report can be created for an element that allows the user to see the document maps that are most likely to include the element.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes: a document acceptance unit that accepts a plurality of documents; a reduction and display unit that reduces and displays the documents accepted by the document acceptance unit; a region designation unit that designates a region for one of the documents displayed by the reduction and display unit; a region image creation unit that creates an image corresponding to the region designated by the region designation unit for each of the documents accepted by the document acceptance unit based on a size of each of the documents displayed by the reduction and display unit; and a region image display unit that displays the images created by the region image creation unit in respective document positions corresponding to the documents displayed by the reduction and display unit.

Abstract: A method and a system implementing web-based incremental computing. A webpage updates when a data value relevant to displayed information is altered and updates only those affected elements. A watch system monitors relevant data values and in conjunction with a dependency tree, may execute functions to alter only altered elements of a webpage. A framework to automatically track data dependencies and propagate data changes is disclosed.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for generating visual media search results are provided. A first search query in a first language and a second search query in a different second language are received. The first search query is a translation of the second search query into the second language. A quality of results statistic for the second search query is obtained. A final search query is created using the first search query, the second search query, and the quality of results statistic. The final search query is sent to a search engine and a final group of visual media search results responsive to the final search query are received from the search engine, where visual media search results in the final group that are responsive to the second visual media search query are assigned a ranking based in part on the quality of result statistic.

Abstract: A printing system includes a terminal apparatus and a server apparatus. The terminal apparatus is connected to a printing apparatus through a local area network. The server apparatus communicates with the terminal apparatus through an external communication network on an outside of the local area network and executes an application in response to an operating signal received from the terminal apparatus. The terminal apparatus includes a specifying unit, a research unit, and a selecting unit. The specifying unit specifies a model of a printing apparatus connected to the terminal apparatus through the local area network by executing an environmental research program. The research unit determines whether a printing apparatus driver corresponding to the model specified by the specifying unit is present in either the terminal apparatus or the server apparatus. The selecting unit selects either a first method or a second method.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image scanning unit, a metafile creating unit, a transmission file name creating unit, and a control unit. The metafile creating unit creates a first metadata file and a second metadata file. The control unit transmits image data files in units of a page, created by the image scanning unit, after transmitting the first metadata file to the file delivery apparatus. The control unit transmits the second metadata file after transmitting the image data files (in a unit comprising all the pages) to the file delivery apparatus. The control unit provides a transmission file name (including a common part created by the transmission file name creating unit) to the first meta data file, the image data file, and the second meta data file.

Abstract: A layered syndicated feed or content is provided having layers defined according to a media type (e.g., text, graphic, audio, or video) wherein each layer has a plurality of levels such that each level provides either inclusive or exclusive content of the layer's media type in varying degrees of detail or depth. Furthermore, a system is provided for requesting and storing user and mobile device profiles indicative of the syndicated content layers and levels that the user is interested in receiving and that the user's mobile device is capable of receiving.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method for centralizing common messaging functionality across a plurality of heterogeneous Mobile data processing System (MS) applications, and for synergistically bringing new messaging functionality to those applications. New synergistic presentation/messaging capability is provided with distributable presentation objects in areas of Out-Going Messages (OGMs), Out-going Caller Messages (OCMs), Confirmation Of delivery Messages (COMs) and ADvertising messages (ADs). OGMs include messages which are played to callers in a phone call recording system. OCMs include messages that can be left automatically to a phone call recording system by a caller. COMs include messages that are automatically sent based on a delivery. ADs include messages for conveying advertising information. Different message types are automatically presented for a variety of triggering events, and in accordance with reconciling an originator's intent and an observer's preferences.

Abstract: A method of processing an electronic version of a variable document for a recipient includes the steps of receiving the electronic version of the variable document for the recipient and rasterizing the electronic version into one or more rasterized images, wherein each rasterized image is assigned a unique identifier. The method further includes the step of generating a run instance for the recipient, wherein the run instance includes the unique identifiers of the one or more rasterized images.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards managing and tracking item identification of a plurality of items to determine if an item is a new or existing item, where an existing item has been previously processed. In some embodiments, two or more item identifiers may be generated. In one embodiment, generating the two or more item identifiers may include analyzing the item using a small item size characteristic, a compressed item, or for an identifier collision. The two or more item identifiers may be employed to determine if the item is a new or existing item. In one embodiment, the two or more item identifiers may be compared to a record about an existing item to determine if the item is a new or existing item. If the item is an existing item, then the item may be further processed to determine if the existing item has actually changed.

Abstract: A device and method provide a user with a template for a message having fields that can be pre-filled with data to reduce the manual entry of data into the message. The method includes, but is not limited to, executing an application at a device, wherein context data including context data items is associated with the executing application, selecting a messaging technology to send a message from the device, selecting a template for the message, wherein the template comprises one or more dynamic fields, selecting a context data item from the context data associated with the executing application, and inserting the selected context data item in the dynamic field to facilitate the creation of a message.
