Abstract: A heat exchanger has at least one inlet and outlet to permit circulation of refrigerant therethrough. Each heat exchanger includes a plurality of thin sections of material arranged between a pair of thin flat outer plates. Each of the thin sections of material is comprised of parallel flow paths, allowing for the refrigerant to flow through the inlet, then from one section to the next, and finally out the outlet. The arrangement of the sections of parallel flow paths allows for the refrigerant to come into contact with the majority of the inside wall of the outer plates, allowing for maximum heat exchange. In use for cooling liquids, the heat exchangers are arranged within a frame and brought into contact with the liquid to be cooled. When the heat exchangers are used to cool liquid sufficiently to produce ice crystals, a rotating scraping device sweeps across the surface of the heat exchanger, removing any ice crystals that have formed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to cool compressors, condensing coils, and similar devices. The compressor or condensing coil is cooled by the delivery of water, which may be ambient temperature or chilled. In one embodiment, the water is delivered to a mesh filter or screen via one or more mist spray nozzles. Water conduits may be integrated with the filter frame. The method to control the delivery of the water is designed to conserve water. The control circuit comprises a microcontroller device which contains programming that receives inputs, including but not limited to, outside ambient air temperature, condenser liquid line temperature, relative humidity and electric current, and uses said inputs to provide a stepwise level of control (“solenoid open time”) of water delivery commensurate with outside air temperature and relative humidity.

Abstract: In a devolatilization/solution concentration process, the feed stream is pre-heated and further heated to a temperature which is higher than the normal boiling point, evaporated into a circulating gaseous medium to obtain a concentrated stream, and the vapor in the circulating gaseous medium is condensed to provide the pre-heating and produce a condensed stream. Increasing the temperature span between the heated stream and the cooled, concentrated stream provides more energy for evaporation into the circulating gaseous medium and improves the performance. The process is thus better adapted for fresh-water production, salt-solution concentration, volatile-matter extraction, air conditioning, refrigeration, low-temperature heat energy upgrading, and electricity generation. Examples of the relevant applications are also provided.
