Abstract: The present invention is a method for heat-treating a wafer, the method by which heat treatment at a predetermined temperature with rapid rise and fall of temperature is performed by performing heating by a heating source in a state in which a principal surface (a first principal surface) of a wafer is supported by a supporting member, the method in which heat treatment is performed with control of the heating source being performed in such a way that the temperature of the first principal surface supported by the supporting member becomes 1 to 25° C. higher than the temperature of a principal surface (a second principal surface) opposite to the first principal surface of the wafer. As a result, a method for heat-treating a wafer, the method that can reliably suppress a slip dislocation generated from a wafer supporting position when heat treatment is performed on a silicon wafer, is provided.

Abstract: In light-irradiation heating with a total irradiation time of one second or less, two-stage irradiation is performed, including a first stage of light irradiation of a semiconductor wafer, which irradiation produces an output waveform that reaches a peak at a given emission output; and a second stage of supplemental light irradiation of the semiconductor wafer, which irradiation is started after the peak, producing an emission output smaller than the above given emission output. The emission output in the second stage is two thirds or less than the above given emission output at the peak. The first-stage light-irradiation time is between 0.1 and 10 milliseconds, and the second-stage light-irradiation time is 5 milliseconds or more. This allows the temperature of the semiconductor wafer even at a somewhat greater depth below the surface to be raised to some extent while allowing the surface temperature to be maintained at a generally constant processing temperature.

Abstract: Improved methods of annealing a workpiece are disclosed. Lasers are used to both increase the temperature of the workpiece, and to laser melt anneal the workpiece. By utilizing lasers for both operations, the manufacturing complexity is reduced. Furthermore, laser melt anneal may provide better junctions and more well defined junction depths. By heating the workpiece either immediately before or after the laser melt anneal, the quality of the junction may be improved. Shallow annealing may be accomplished and annealing may occur in the presence of a species to form a passivation layer. If the workpiece is a solar cell, in-situ heating may improve open circuit voltage (Voc) or dark currents. Insitu heating of the substrate lowers the melting threshold of the substrate and also increases light absorption in the substrate. This reduces the power of the melt laser and hence reduces the residual damage.

  • Patent number: 7880121
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method provide radiant heat. A planar electrical heating element converts electrical energy to heat energy. A planar heat spreading layer is in contact with the planar electrical heating element, drawing the heat energy out of the planar electrical heating element and distributing the heat energy. A finishing layer is disposed to one side of the planar heat spreading layer. A thermal isolation layer is disposed to an opposite side of the planar heat spreading layer as the finishing layer. Heat from the planar heat spreading layer conducts away from the thermal isolation layer and toward the finishing layer. An electric power coupling is connected to the electrical heating element to supply electrical power.

Abstract: A power line de-icing apparatus which is installed onto a power line without the need for disconnecting the power line. A temperature sensor and an ice sensor on the apparatus automatically activate the de-icing mode of operation. An internal motor and drive wheel move the apparatus along the power line in both directions, one direction at a time. Heaters and chisels on the apparatus remove any ice on the power line in one direction at a time. Power for the apparatus is generated from the electrical power carried by the power line using transformers. Proximity sensors on the apparatus detect stopping devices placed on the power line to stop the motion of the apparatus.

Abstract: Disclosed is a warm window system that utilizes individual buss bars that are placed within the space between an inside window pane and an outside window pane and creates sufficient physical force to create an electrical contact on the tin oxide layer on the inside surface of the inside pane of glass. An insulating nonconductive layer can also be used in conjunction with the buss bars. That include metal strips, braided wires, spring loaded indentations, etc. The buss bars have a modulus of elasticity to ensure sufficient electrical contact with the tin oxide layer. The buss bars can be used with either hard coat or soft coat tin oxide coatings on tempered glass or annealed glass. Electrical connections and wires are hidden from the viewing area of the warm window system to enhance the aesthetic value of the warm window system. Retrofit systems allow use of the warm window system in conjunction with an existing installed window system.
