Abstract: A defrosting system includes an RF signal source, one or more electrodes, a transmission path between the RF signal source and the electrode(s), and an impedance matching network coupled along the transmission path. A system controller may modify the impedance matching network to reduce the reflected signal power. The system controller may determine an initial estimate of the mass of the load. Desired signal parameters for the RF signal may be determined based on the initial estimated mass of the load. The system controller may determine a refined estimate of the load mass based on a rate of change of an S11, VSWR, or reflected power parameter measured at the transmission path, or based on elapsed time between matches. Refined signal parameters for the RF signal may be determined based on the refined estimated mass.

Abstract: A modified deposit-and-etch Bosch process of cyclic anisotropic etching and film deposition by gas switching. The modification of which includes depositing nucleated silicon layers as liquefied droplets of silicon instead of by passivation, and using a bias discharge to decelerate an otherwise ballistic deposition instead into a nuclei-generation cloud at the deposition site. Such is then useful in the refurbishment of gas distribution plates made of silicon.

Abstract: Provided is a heating cooker that can efficiently apply steam to the entire food and can also cook the food quickly. A heating cooker (1A) includes a toasting grill (16) provided within a cooking chamber (10) and a lower heater (17b) provided at a lower section within the cooking chamber (10). Steam is blown between the toasting grill (16) and the lower heater (17b) from a steam outlet (25) provided in at least one sidewall of the cooking chamber (10).

Abstract: Systems, methods, and articles to provide customized cooking instructions to users via a communications device. The user is provided with audio/visual prompts depicting one or more ending characteristics of a food product, such as texture or doneness. The user provides a selection of the one or more ending characteristics according to the user's preferences. A processor-based device determines one or more output food preparation parameters based on the user's selection of the one or more ending characteristics for the food product. The one or more determined output food preparation parameters are provided to a communication device of the user so that the user may cook the food product according to the output food preparation parameters.

Abstract: An aluminum gas distribution plate refurbishment system combines a multi-beam inductively coupled plasma (AP-ICP) torch and vacuum discharge chuck. Plasma beams are employed to clean and restore to service the many gas flow passages in aluminum type gas distribution plates. Several parallel supersonic plasma beams of uniform density are produced from a single upper and lower AP-ICP plasma reactor arranged in totem pole that are driven by two pairs of opposing spiral planar RF induction RF antennas. These plasma beams are focused inside the gas flow passages to etch, heat, and deposit nanoparticles within. The vacuum discharge chuck includes a capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) reactor to generate a positive species discharge immediately beneath the gas distribution plates. This overcomes and undoes a Debye Sheathing effect, a electron-fed negative space charge blocking occurring above, and unknots any congested plasma beams in the gas flow passages.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention generally relate to RTP chambers. The chambers generally include a chamber body and chamber lid. The chamber body includes a substrate support having multiple zones of resistive heaters to heat substrates positioned on the substrate support. The chamber body also optionally includes a cooling channel to mitigate thermal stress and a thermally insulating liner disposed therein for containing heat generated during thermal processing. The chamber lid includes a lid body having an opening therethrough, and a reflective plate disposed within the opening. A plurality of pyrometers are positioned within the reflective plate to measure the temperature of a substrate at a plurality of locations across the substrate corresponding to the zones of the substrate support. The temperature of each zone is adjusted in response to the signals from the plurality of pyrometers.

The base rack (104) is adapted to remain stationary and may be positioned on ledges or other protrusions associated with inner liners of oven cavities. In one embodiment, a pair of angled pieces (118) extend between outer lateral braces (114) and a rear brace (106). The cooking rack (102) is adapted to slide on and be extendable relative to the base rack (104). A user can exert manual forces on the cooking rack (102) so as to move the cooking rack (102) relative to the base rack (104). The movement occurs in the absence of the requirement of any type of rotatable or rolling elements.

Abstract: Provided are a cooking appliance, and a system and method for controlling a cooking appliance. The system includes a RF tag and a cooking appliance. The RF tag stores food information about foods as integrants of a dish and the cooking appliance having a RF reader reads the food information stored in the RF tag. The cooking appliance includes a memory, a cooking appliance controller, and a display unit. The memory stores dish information about dishes that can be cooked using the food information. The cooking appliance controller reads dish information from the memory, and the display unit displays at least one of the dish information to a user.

Abstract: A cooking apparatus including a filter which may efficiently collect gas and smoke generated in a pyro-cleaning process, and a method of controlling the same. The cooking apparatus includes a main body having a cooking chamber formed therein, a vent unit configured to discharge gas in the cooking chamber to the outside of the main body, and a filter installed in at least one of the cooking chamber and the vent unit to collect gas or smoke generated in the cooking chamber. The filter includes a metal sheet.

Abstract: An interactive cooking preparation device is presented. The user places ingredients that the user wishes to use in a recipe. The interactive cooking preparation device detects the ingredients placed by the user in the detection area of the interactive cooking preparation device using sensors. The detection results in a set of ingredient identifiers that correspond to the placed ingredients. A recipes database is then searched for the detected set of ingredient identifiers. The database search results in one or more suggested recipes. The suggested recipes are displayed to the user on a display device that is included in the interactive cooking preparation device. The user then selects one of the suggested recipes.

The oven includes a cooking cavity, a user interface comprising an input device to be actuated with a single actuation event by a cook to select a predetermined cooking mode for cooking the food item, a heating element operable to produce heat required to cook the food item within the cooking cavity, and a control unit. The method includes receiving a cooking signal in response to actuation of the input device with the single actuation event by the cook, and establishing a cooking parameter for the predetermined cooking mode based on the cooking signal. The cooking parameter can be specific to the food item to be cooked according to the predetermined cooking mode of the oven. The method also includes initiating the predetermined cooking mode associated with the input device, and detecting that cooking of the food item according to the predetermined cooking mode is complete.

Abstract: The present invention is a self-inflating heat sanitizer, which uses convective heat transfer to eradicate bed bugs within an item. The heater unit propagates and reheats the air within the present invention as the heated air flows through the present invention. The heat chamber enclosure is a compartment that allows the heated air to circulate around the item and raise the temperature of the item to above 140° F. The structure of the heat chamber enclosure is inflatable walls, which are pressurized when the heated air flows into the heat chamber enclosure. The heated air will then vent out of the inflatable walls into the treatment volume, where the item is located. The insulated ducts lead the heated air from the heater unit into the inflatable walls and lead the heated air from the treatment volume back to the heater unit.

Abstract: A system for support and securement of a thermal heating panel of a carousel oven upper a rotational axle includes a flat upper receiver formed of several diametric strips. The upper receiver is proportioned for complemental receipt of the heating panel. At, or integrally secured to, the bottom of the upper receiver, and situated polarly symmetrically about the axle, is a cradle proportioned for complemental fit upon a male drive shaft at an uppermost end of the axle. Due to the weight of the heating panel and its slow rate of rotation within the carousel oven, the force of gravity of the heating panel is sufficient to maintain the upper receiver and its cradle upon the male drive plate even in the absence of positive securement between the elements. Alternatively, the heating panel is entirely replaced by a grill-like surface, secured above or below the diametric strips to permit the grilling of types of meat or food other than those typically cooked upon the thermal plate panel.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for providing top heat to assist with baking in an oven appliance having a gas bake burner. The top heat is provided by a heating element positioned in the top of the oven cavity. This top heating element is operated in a manner that assists the bottom, gas bake burner with properly browning the food on both its top and bottom. The operation of the both the top heating element and the gas bake burner can be varied to provide proper cooking and browning based upon e.g., the type of food being cooked, the amount of food being cooked, and the level of browning desired.
