Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvement in an injection and compression molding apparatus and a method therefor which comprises the steps of supplying molten resin by injecting it into a cavity formed by molds and compressing the resin by applying pressure. In consideration of problems with respect to the occurrence of sink marks in molded products and the deterioration in precision which are caused by the escape of resin during compression and a change in the cavity distance between two molds, the present invention provides an injection and compression molding apparatus and a molding method therefor which is capable of resolving the problems and stably producing molded products with good productivity. In the present invention, a gate is closed during compression, and a supplemental amount of resin can be injected after the compression step so as to supply the desired amount of resin in the molded article.

In the injection process, an injection speed is changed over in accordance with a screw position for the processing at the injection process. In the subsequent dwell process, the screw is axially driven by a servomotor, a pressure applied to the resin is detected, and a difference between the pressure and a dwell pressure which has been set is found. The amount of movement in response to the difference is output to the servomotor for the drive thereof so as to keep the screw at the position. As a result, the dwell pressure is controlled by the screw position. Moreover, also in the metering process, the resin pressure is detected, and the screw is moved according to a difference between a set back pressure and a detected resin pressure so as to correspond with the back pressure which has been set.

  • Patent number: 5250238
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the production of hollow bodies from thermoplastic material by means of blow molding uses a blow molding mold which includes at least first and second mold portions to enclose a generally tubular extruded preform which is expanded within the mold under the effect of an increased internal pressure within the preform. To provide for asymmetric closing and/or opening movements of the mold portions relative to the preform, the blow molding mold is displaced as an entirety parallel to the direction of the opening and/or closing movements of the mold portions, more especially during the mold closing and/or opening procedure, so that an additional motion is superimposed on the movements of the mold portions.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a molded resin foam by charging pre-expanded resin pellets into a cavity of a mold and subjecting them to expansion molding. In order to minimize differences in weight of the foam from product to product, the method is characterized in that prior to charging, the apparent density of the pre-expanded resin pellets is measured and, upon charging, the cracking width of the mold is regulated, on the basis of the measurement result, to a definite value determined depending upon the apparent density, whereby the weight of the pellets charged in the mold cavity is made constant.

Abstract: A system of injection-molding a super-precision product by an injection machine with a mold comprises conventional fundamental steps including a material plasticizing and metering step, an injection step and a material pressure-holding step, with additional features in that a nozzle passage, enlarged in volume, extending from a machine body to a cavity gate is interrupted midway therealong by a valve from communication with the interior of the body, after the injection step but while the pressure-holding step is being carried out. The pressure-holding step is carried out at least using the valve for exerting an internal pressure on a forward portion of the injected material separated due to the passage interruption, and compacted in a fixed closed space limited by the valve including a mold cavity, during which step a next plasticizing and metering step is commenced.

Abstract: The critical dimensions of product samples made during a standard certification procedure for an injection molding process are measured and a loss factor value is computed for each such dimension. Using statistical techniques, the largest loss factor value is partitioned into percentages of loss contributed by a predetermined set of loss elements. The loss element contributing the largest percentage is corrected so as to improve the quality of the process and the product. The method provides a way of determining what kinds of process corrections will most effectively improve product and process quality.

Abstract: A method of controlling an injection molding machine in which change in the forward movement velocity of an injecting screw or change in the filling pressure is detected at the time of performing switching from the filling process to the packing process, commencement of the packing control is hastened if the change in the velocity or the pressure is reversed, while the commencement of the packing process is delayed if a determined level is not realized within a predetermined time from the commencement of the packing control. When the injection molding work is performed, switching from the filling process to the packing process can be easily performed at a proper time and therefore high quality products can be easily mass-produced.

  • Patent number: 5244618
Abstract: Continuous process and apparatus form products from thermoplastic materials between top and bottom mold carriages. A flexible silicone rubber mold on a fiber belt continuously moves around each carriage frame. A surface of desired shape on one rubber mold mates with the desired shape of an opposed rubber mold forming a continuously moving mold channel into which is fed hot thermoplastic material at moldable temperature. After discharging the molded plastic product from the moving mold channel, localized surface heat in the molds resulting from contact with hot plastic is removed from the belt molds by air blown onto mold surfaces. Each carriage frame includes a back-up plate coated with low friction coefficient material over which slides a continuously moving belt mold. These slippery plates have numerous air-bearing holes feeding high pressure air between them and the respective moving fiber belt for reducing friction and wear.
