Spring Projected Patents (Class 292/163)
  • Patent number: 7481468
Abstract: A blocking apparatus is cooperable with the latch lever of a vehicle door latching mechanism to prevent the latch lever from moving during a crash event, which prevents the latching mechanism from allowing the vehicle door to open. The blocking apparatus includes a housing supporting a linearly movable plunger engagable with a cam surface on the latch lever and a blocking member pivotally mounted for movement between a normal position and a blocking position. The blocking member moves into the blocking position due to the imposition of crash forces on the blocking member during a crash event. A centering spring mechanism biases the blocking member into the normal position and can return the blocking member into the normal position to permit movement of the latch lever after the crash event has occurred. The plunger is biased into engagement with the latch lever so as to move with the cam surface.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a slide latch for electronic devices to slide the cover open or closed relative to the base of the electronic device and has a base, a sliding latch, a spring and a rotating latch. The base has two longitudinal sides formed parallelly on and protruding from the base. Two turning protrusions are formed parallelly on and protruding from the two longitudinal sides and each has a guide edge, an inclined edge and an apex. A sliding latch is mounted slidably on the base. A spring is mounted on the base, which abuts the sliding latch. A rotating latch is mounted rotatably on the sliding latch, between the two guide edges of the two turning protrusions of the base. The present invention allows the cover to open or close relative to the base without mounting hinges on the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 7441813
Abstract: A battery cover latching mechanism (300) for latching a battery cover (20) on a housing (10) of a portable electronic device. The battery cover has a fixing portion (204) defining a hollow (206) therein. The latching mechanism includes a button (30), a locking member (40) and an elastic member (60). The button (30) has an inclined surface (308). The locking member has a claw (408) engaged with the hollow and a slanted surface (414) that resists the inclined surface. The button is mounted in the housing and is movable along a first direction. When the button moves along the first direction, the locking member is driven to slide along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, so as to move the claw from a first position where the claw engages in the hollow to a second position where the claw releases from the hollow.

  • Patent number: 7410195
Abstract: A vertical bolt mechanism and installation configuration that avoids damage to a door corner comprises a vertical bolt case of tubular shape and a horizontal tubular transfer case. The mechanism is substantially contained within the bolt case and transfer case. In the installation in a door, the bolt case and the transfer case require only two major holes in the door top and edge, each hole being well spaced from the door corner and the axis of each hold being directed perpendicular to the other. Installation requires insertion of the bolt case through the hole in the top of the door and the transfer case through the hole in the edge of the door. The two cases come together to form an L-shape within the door with the internal mechanism of each case joined in engagement. Routing or cutting out of the door at the corner is thus avoided.

  • Patent number: 7399009
Abstract: A load floor latch for securing a first closure member to a second closure member panel such that when the first and second closure members are fastened, the latch is opened by actuating the handle and the pawl is retracted into the latch. A biasing device such as a torsion spring acts on a locking arm so as to pivot the locking arm such that it engages a slot on the pawl. This maintains the pawl in the retracted position. When the first closure member to which the latch is attached is closed so as to bring the first closure member into a closed position with respect to the second closure member, a projection on the locking arm contacts a contact member such that the locking arm is pivoted and the locking arm no longer remains in the slot in the pawl. The pawl is then free to extend out of the latch to a latched position by the action of a compression spring and engage a keeper on the second closure member to thus fasten the first and second closure members.

Abstract: A gate lock is composed of a lock base, a lock core with a slot defined therein, a latch member and a bolt assembly. A gate is mounted in a frame, which can be mounted in a doorway. The gate lock is mounted on the gate and the bolt assembly of the gate lock is mounted on the frame. When the gate is closed, the bolt is engaged in the slot in the lock core. The lock core is then rotated 90 degrees. The bolt will not slide out of the slot, and the gate is locked. To unlock the gate, the lock core is rotated 90 degrees in the opposite direction. The gate is then lifted upward allowing the bolt to slide out of the slot, thus enabling the gate to swing open.

  • Patent number: 7390035
Abstract: A magnetic self-latching device for a gate has a main body with handles on either side for operation or has an arrangement to be remotely actuated, for example electrically. A latching body has a high strength magnet usually provided at the bottom of a cavity which defines a latching shoulder. The latching body is adapted to be fixed to a gate post. The main body, with its housing, can be mounted on the gate frame and incorporates a latch pin which, in the door-closed position, is displaced by magnetic attraction to an extended latching position and against the biasing of a return spring. The gate cannot be opened until actuation of the mechanism occurs, for example by rotating a handle to retract the pin against the magnetic force; the gate can then be swung open. When the handle is released, the biasing spring retains the latch pin in a retracted position.

The door has a manual lock actuator on the inside of the door, and an optional key-lock actuator on the outside of the door, whereby latching the door in the closed position requires a deliberate manual manipulation of either the inner lock actuator or the outer key actuator. The assembly permits sequential unlocking and opening of the door from the inside by application of a single horizontally-directed force to the inner handle. A control lever pivotally connected to the locking bolt opposite the mouth end is biased toward a locked position in which motion of the locking bolt is blocked. • Patent number: 6793254
Abstract: An automatic door latch is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the latch includes a dead bolt which is automatically moved from a partially retracted or trigger position to a fully extended locking position when a door in which the lock is mounted is closed. When a key is used to unlock the dead bolt from outside of the door, or a finger turn or key is used to unlock the dead bolt from inside of the door, the dead bolt is automatically reset to the trigger position. In a preferred embodiment, the dead bolt lock includes a multi-position switch mounted in the lock housing which engages a contact member mounted on the dead bolt. Retraction of the dead bolt into the housing causes the multi-position switch to engage the contact member and to secure the dead bolt in the trigger position. Subsequent retraction of the dead bolt into the housing causes the multi-position switch to disengage from the contact member, thereby allowing the dead bolt to extend from the housing to the locked position.

Abstract: A lock for preventing one member from moving relative to another member has a housing securable to one member, and a plunger unit mounted in the housing. The plunger unit has a sleeve, a plunger slidably mounted in the sleeve, and a spring acting between the plunger and the sleeve to resiliently bias the plunger to a locking position in which a free end portion of the plunger projects from one end of the sleeve. The plunger also has a manually operable portion projecting from an opposite end of the sleeve. In the locking position, the free end portion of the plunger projects from the housing to extend into an aperture in the other member, when the housing is secured to the one member, and thereby prevent relative movement between the members. The plunger also has an unlocking position in which the free end portion thereof is withdrawn from the aperture in the other member by pulling the manually operable portion against the action of the spring.

Abstract: A locking mechanism having a serrated rod that fits into an aperture of a rotatably mounted block when biasing which pushes the block toward the direction of insertion is reduced. Pulling the serrated rod, after insertion, in the direction from which insertion occurred tends to increase biasing and, consequently, decrease diameter of the aperture projected perpendicular to the length of the serrated rod thereby retaining the serrated rod within the aperture. An end of the serrated rod that does not have the serrations can be formed into a loop for attaching a belt or have screw thread for connection to a bar.
