  • Publication number: 20030025336
Abstract: A locking mechanism having a serrated rod that fits into an aperture of a rotatably mounted block when biasing which pushes the block toward the direction of insertion is reduced. Pulling the serrated rod, after insertion, in the direction from which insertion occurred tends to increase biasing and, consequently, decrease diameter of the aperture projected perpendicular to the length of the serrated rod thereby retaining the serrated rod within the aperture. An end of the serrated rod that does not have the serrations can be formed into a loop for attaching a belt or have screw thread for connection to a bar. The belt or bar would restrain a person or physical object.

Abstract: A latch having a housing, handle, pawl, actuator and spring. The spring biases the pawl toward the latched or extended position. The handle is pivotally attached to the housing and has a pair of actuating arms that are engageable with the actuator. The actuator is slidably supported by the housing. Lifting the handle to the open position causes sliding movement of the actuator which in turn causes the pawl to slide to the unlatched or retracted position.

Abstract: A door latch has an adjustable cam (25) to accommodate two backsets of the bore (24) through a door. The cam (25) is operably attached to a handle 14. Rotation of the handle (24) approximately 45° fully retracts latch bolt (54) and deadbolt (56) through a slide actuator (100) that pulls a link (112) which pivots a cam lever (104) that retracts the bolt (54). The bolt (54) retracting motion is magnified with respect to the motion of actuator (100) via the link (112) and cam lever (104). The link (112) and cam lever (104) are mounted within cylinder section half (52) of housing (28) so as not to interfere with the deadbolt (56) and its slide (150) and deadbolt locking plate (170) that are mounted in a complementary cylinder half (51).

  • Patent number: 6428057
Abstract: A muzzle door latch, or attachment mechanism, incorporates spring-loaded plungers acting within concave surfaces to provide additional resistance to vibration. The door, or cap, has an elastomeric seal about its outer circumference, which fits snugly within the muzzle. Diametrically opposed guides are attached to the outer side of the cap and extend radially past the outer edge of the muzzle. A plate is attached to the exterior of the muzzle, corresponding to each guide, and each plate extends slightly beyond the end of the muzzle. A roller on each guide engages the outer surface of the plate when the cap is positioned within the muzzle. The plates have a concave indentation on their inner surface, and a spring-loaded plunger on each guide is biased against the concave surface.

  • Patent number: 6135512
Abstract: An automatic door latch is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the latch includes a dead bolt which is automatically moved from a partially retracted or trigger position to a fully extended locking position when a door in which the lock is mounted is closed. When a key is used to unlock the dead bolt from outside of the door, or a finger turn or key is used to unlock the dead bolt from inside of the door, the dead bolt is automatically reset to the trigger position. In a preferred embodiment, the dead bolt lock includes a multi-position switch mounted in the lock housing which engages a contact member mounted on the dead bolt. Retraction of the dead bolt into the housing causes the multi-position switch to engage the contact member and to secure the dead bolt in the trigger position. Subsequent retraction of the dead bolt into the housing causes the multi-position switch to disengage from the contact member, thereby allowing the dead bolt to extend from the housing to the locked position.

  • Patent number: 6120070
Abstract: A latch for use in connecting thin panels together has a base with first and second portions connected by a spring loaded hinge, a lock pin and release pin mounted to the base reciprocate relative to the first and second portions of the base. The first and second portions of the base are moveable relative to one another with the second portion of the base having an edge to engage an enlarged head of the distal end of the lock pin and holding the lock pin in a retracted position. A spring biased release pin contacts the second portion of the base and disengages the enlarged head of the lock pin from the second portion of the base, and a biasing spring returns the lock pin into a locked position where it secures a second panel member to a first panel on which the latch is attached. The lock pin and the release pin are operated by a simple hand tool that cooperates with complementary receptacles on the pins to move the pins along their longitudinal axes in response to an axial force applied by the tool.

In the first embodiment a second section of the deck is pivotally connected to the first section and it is also movable between a horizontal load position and a vertical stored position against the side wall, and when it is in the vertical stored position it is hanging from the first section and is configured such that it nests closely in the first deck section to provide a slender storing intermediate deck structure.

Abstract: A safety device includes a substantially L-shaped mount securely mounted to an inner wall of a side panel of a drawer and a sliding assembly. The mount includes a vertical portion on which a first track is provided and a horizontal portion in which a hole is formed. The sliding assembly includes a body having at least one compartment for optionally receiving a stop and a second track extending longitudinally from the body. A member projects from the body and is slidably received in the first track. A pin extends downward from the body and has a snapping head at a distal end thereof to prevent excessive upward movement of the pin. A spring is wound around the pin. The sliding assembly further has a slider slidably received in the second track. By such an arrangement, the drawer is limited, by the upper edge of the desk, between the stop and the slider.

Abstract: An anti-pilferage device is attached to the car body of a railroad flatcar of the type for carrying containers. The device has a mounting plate attached to the car frame at a point adjacent the doors of a container loaded on the car. A barrier is tiltably supported on the mounting plate in a manner which permits free movement if the barrier is bumped during loading of a container. The barrier is movable between a raised, operative position and a lowered, retracted position. A spring biases the barrier to the operative position, wherein it is in the path of a swinging container door to prevent it from being opened. In the retracted position the barrier is below the level of the container floor. A plurality of anti-pilferage devices may be mounted on the car to accommodate containers of various lengths. The barriers are automatically movable between the retracted position and operative position without the need for manual actuation.

  • Patent number: 4183565
Abstract: To lock the head of a latchbolt in extended, or locked position therein to prevent opening of a door in case of fire the latch bolt head is provided with a spring driven locking pin reciprocatably mounted in a transverse direction. In the extended locked position of the latch bolt head the locking pin is in alignment with but withdrawn clear of a hole in the latch bolt case. At the inside end of the locking pin is a groove and a fusible pin normally engages the groove holding the locking pin in withdrawn position. This permits normal latch bolt action. When the fusible pin melts because of heat from a fire the locking pin is released and driven by spring action into the hole in the latch bolt case to physically bar withdrawal of the latch bolt, and consequent opening of the door.

Abstract: A lockset has a die cast, monolithic body pivotally supporting a lever handle which upon actuation and through fingers engages tabs of a lock bolt assembly for selective linear retraction of the latter. A rotatable knob carried by the body through a spindle and a guide plate mounts a cam plate which acts, upon rotation of the knob in either direction, to retract the bolt assembly. The bolt has opposed U-shaped guides which receive the guide plate and guide the bolt laterally and vertically. A lock has a lock lever which positively engages the bolt assembly to lock the latter in place. A follower lever and the lock lever are pivoted about a common axis. The follower responds to a barrel lock between two positions to lock and unlock the lock lever from the bolt assembly. The lock lever also responds to a latch pin independently of the follower on the opposite side of the lockset from the barrel lock, to lock and unlock the bolt assembly.
