Distance Measuring Patents (Class 33/700)
  • Patent number: 5157846
Abstract: A scale, particularly for a position measuring device, includes a base member and a graduation carrier with a graduation which is fastened with an adhesive layer to the base member. In order to prevent an at least partial separation of the adhesive layer from the contact surface of the base member, the adhesive layer extends in a positively engaging manner with a projection in a dovetail-shaped groove in the contact surface of the base member, so that a secure adhesion of the adhesive layer on the contact surface of the base member is ensured.

  • Patent number: 5050312
Abstract: A graphic calculator (10) for use in technical drawing has means for selectively displaying one of a plurality of sets of division markers wherein each set corresponds to a set of scaled division markers of a particular scale rule. Such a calculator effectively provides a scale rule whose divisions may be altered as desired. Also disclosed is an electronic protractor having a transparent cross-hair viewer for accurately locating the protractor over the lines forming the angle to be measured and means for recording the point at which at least one of said lines extends from under a measuring edge of said protractor.

  • Patent number: 5040307
Abstract: Inaccuracies in measurement of the separation of a pitched horseshoe from a target stake are substantially reduced by a measuring device that is configured to engage the target stake such that surface anomalies in the stake do not influence the accuracy of the measurement. The measuring device is comprised of a generally elongated solid body having a generally circular aperture adjacent one end of the body, the diameter of the aperture exceeding the width of the target stake, so that the device may be placed over the stake and a far edge portion of the aperture, that is adjacent to the one end of the body, may abut against that portion of the stake which faces away from the pitching direction. A sequence of gradation markings are formed on a second portion of the flat body, which is spaced apart from the one end of the body. In accordance with a further aspect of the present invention there is provided a scoring device for providing an indication of the score of the game during the progress of the game.

  • Patent number: 5036597
Abstract: A securing device composed of a plurality of components for a measuring apparatus used for determining the positions of two structural members which are movable relative to each other. The measuring apparatus includes a graduation, a carrier member carrying the graduation and a scanning device for scanning the graduation. The scanning device is guided at a constant distance from the graduation. The scanning device is fastened to one of the movable structural members by means of an assembly base. Spacer members are used for maintaining the securing device in an intended position relative to the carrier member. Each component of the securing device is a unit which can be separately attached to the carrier member. The components include interacting elements for connecting the components in a securing position.

  • Patent number: 5020236
Abstract: An arrangement for measuring the distance between the axles or wheels of a vehicle. A roadway with at least one sensing sill. A sensing section along the roadway with one end a maximum length from the sill corresponding to the smallest spacing between axles to be measured and another end a minimum length from the sill corresponding to the largest spacing between axles to be measured. A first wheel on a first axle of the vehicle being located at the sensing sill and a second wheel on a second axle on the vehicle being located on the sensing section when measuring the distance between the two axles by using the distance measured between the second wheel and the sensing sill.

  • Patent number: 4991311
Abstract: A magnetic linear scale unit comprises a magnetic scale and mounting blocks which are designed to be rigidly fixed to one of relatively displaceable mechanical components, about which magnitude or stroke of the relative thrusting displacement is to be measured. The magnetic scale has end sections to be mounted on the mounting blocks. The end sections have round peripheral portion mating with the mounting block. At least one of the end section also includes a structural component which allows pivotal movement of the magnetic scale relative to the mounting block for fine adjustment of the axis of the magnetic scale relative to the axis of relative movement of the mechanical components. A scale channel is free from the mounting block and simply serves as the magnetic shield. Therefore, the scale channel of the invention is substantially free from the accuracy requirement and production error of the scale channel and will never affect measurement of the displacement magnitude.

  • Patent number: 4941267
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining an actual measurement in feet and inches of the distance between two points which appear on a scaled drawing by adjusting a first and second indicator to locate on the drawing a first and second point, and generating a voltage signal corresponding to the distance between the two points. A converter then converts the voltage signal to a frequency signal which is received by a first counter which generates a first binary count in response thereto. Logic gates couple the first counter to a second counter which generates a second binary count which is incremented by the first counter when the first counter reaches twelve. The first and second binary counts represent the feet and inches, respectively, portion of the measurement, and the actual measurement in feet and inches is displayed on liquid crystal displays mounted in the housing of the apparatus.
