The proposed method utilizes a minimum network delay approach, which overcomes the problems caused by delay variation of the network and filters out network jitter, such as noise jitter and other “singular” anomalies causing latency deviations. Minimum network delay is defined herein as the time delay in which a packet remains in the network under assumption that all transmission queues through which the packet passes are empty.

  • Patent number: 7729308
Abstract: Optimal allocation of a number of sub carriers to applications having diverse QoS requirements and executing on terminal devices (e.g., mobile stations). A base station (BS) considers the QoS requirements and the observed QoS for each of the applications in computing the number of sub carriers allocated to each terminal device in the forward link direction in a given time slot. For allocation in the reverse link direction, the terminal device transmits a first bit indicating whether the aggregate queue lengths (of all applications) exceeds a pre-specified threshold and a second bit indicating whether a delay bound requirement is likely to be violated in the absence of sub carrier allocation. The BS computes the number of sub carriers to be allocated in the reverse link direction based on the respective two bits received from the terminal devices.

Abstract: A method and device for improving clock stability are provided. The method includes: determining whether a difference between a current sender timestamp (ST) and a current receiver timestamp (RT) is a mutated value; pre-processing the ST and RT, if the difference between the ST and RT is a mutated value; acquiring a service clock according to the pre-processed ST and RT; and sending time division multiplex (TDM) data according to the service clock.. Through the embodiments of the present disclosure, a packet delay variance (PDV) may be smoothed, the impairment of the PDV on clock recovery may be reduced, the quality of the clock recovery may be improved, and the problem of clock synchronization may be solved through the mutation processing on the timestamps.

  • Patent number: 7680033
Abstract: The present invention provides a way to discover/rediscover or repair a path in a SONET network using a “bottom-up” approach. In particular, information from nodes in the network is retrieved. The information indicates whether a node in the network cross-connects or adds/drops information in each of the timeslot of a SONET frame. A timeslot that is configured as an add/drop is considered a boundary of the path. Accordingly, based on the timeslots that are configured as boundaries, a path may be discovered/rediscovered or repaired.

Abstract: A system and method for processing multiple client flows to a single outbound link is provided. Specifically, a scheduler enforces a maximum symbol rate on the aggregate output flow. Inbound client flows are scheduled for output based upon individual quality of service parameters. For each round of scheduling, packets configured for a first bandwidth range are processed in a first pass and packets configured for a second bandwidth range are processed in a second pass. The packets are placed into frames before transmission. A comparison of the actual symbol usage with the estimated symbol is made and used to determine how to schedule inbound client flows for the second pass of the round.

Abstract: Successive interference canceling for CDMA. ICI may result from a signal's multi-path effects, or by filtering/suppression of some of the component energy of the signaling waveforms. Energy component attenuation destroys orthogonality of CDMA symbols thereby causing ICI. An ICF suppresses frequency domain portions (attenuates ingress), but also introduces ICI. Following the ICF, the signal is de-spread, sliced, re-spread and convolved with the ICF echoes (except first tap echoes). Convolving re-spread hard decisions with delayed ICF taps is equivalent to partially re-modulating the first-pass hard decisions to efficiently “add-back-in” the signal energy which was blanked/subtracted by the ICF. Alternatively, parameter estimation de-rotates and re-rotates soft symbols and hard decisions, respectively, compensating for undesirable symbol rotation. The convolved signal is subtracted from a delayed version of the ICF output signal.

  • Patent number: 7660333
Abstract: Jitter in a clock signal can cause communications faults in communications networks, such as in networks in which downstream nodes use recovered clock signals as timing for upstream communications. An embodiment of the present invention detects and compensates for jitter in a network by recovering a reference clock associated with communications signals between nodes, such as an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT) in a Passive Optical Network (PON). A local clock is synchronized with the reference clock. Jitter induced faults may be detected and compensated for by increasing the synchronization rate, then decreasing the synchronization rate until jitter induced faults begin to occur. A loss or change in a rate of communications errors occurring as a function of the synchronization rate may be monitored and reported to a system operator. Compensating for jitter by adjusting the synchronization rate provides for robust communications between network nodes.

Abstract: To relay messages in a time-controlled communication system with a star coupler arranged as a multirouter, messages arriving via ports are relayed according to a rule defined in the star coupler. Relaying paths are switched according to a rule defined in the star router which describes relaying paths for messages, namely in the synchronized operating state depending on the time according to the global time basis of the communication system. Two relaying paths can occur simultaneously in at least one time slot whereby they are in disjunction to one another. Each port belongs to only one relaying path respectively at any time. A check is conducted on the basis of a message's content as to whether the relaying of the message complies with an acceptance rule. Relaying of the message to those target ports which do not match the rule is cancelled or ended under the invalidation of the message.

Abstract: A signal transmission apparatus is connected to a network as one node among a plurality of nodes involved in the network which is provided with an audio signal transmission period for transmitting a plurality of channels of audio signals each transmission cycle and a control data transmission period for transmitting control data of the plurality of the nodes each control cycle by using an idle time period other than the audio signal transmission period. In the signal transmission apparatus, a storage section stores configuration information of the one node. A transmitting section transmits the control data including an error checking code of the configuration information. A receiving section receives request data from another node, the request data requesting the one node for transmission of an information block of the configuration information. A control section controls the transmitting section to transmit the information block in response to the request data.

  • Publication number: 20090323725
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of data transmission via a transmission link according to the TDM method, corresponding to time division multiplex. Such a method is used in an audio mixing console in order to transport the sample words of a plurality of audio channels jointly to an audio DSP processor and, after processing, to transmit them back from said processor to an output processor. Since the data output process is performed in an automated manner with the aid of a DMA unit, severe interfering noise can occur in cases of error, said noise also being output via the loudspeakers. The invention is based on the aim of avoiding such interfering effects. An error detection method based on the marking of data frames is used for this. For this purpose, a number of marking bits of the time slot of the data frame are set, the bit pattern of the marking bits being alternated in a defined sequence.

  • Patent number: 7633936
Abstract: A circuit and method are presented for signal processing and routing of digital voice telephony signals, using a specialized high-density integrated circuit voice processor. The voice processor performs several essential functions required for telephony processing, including echo cancellation, protocol conversion, and dynamic range compression/expansion. These functions are traditionally performed by multiple circuits or modules. By combining these capabilities in a single device, power and circuit board area requirements are reduced. The embodiment of the circuit and method disclosed herein include novel implementations of a time-slot interchange circuit and a telephony signaling circuit. Both of these circuits are designed to minimize demands on the signal processing engines incorporated within the voice processor, and account for very little of the on-chip circuitry.
