    Abstract: A system and method for a patch-like, self-contained substance infusion device which provides one or more substantially hidden patient needles which can be placed in fluid communication with a fluid reservoir subassembly that includes a rigid bladder portion used in conjunction with a non-distensible bladder film, such as a metallized film. Simple removal of an interlock allows a disk, or Belleville spring assembly to apply an essentially even and constant pressure to the contents of the fluid reservoir assembly, and allows the device to then be attached to a skin surface via an adhesive contact surface. A push button activation assembly is provided which can then be used to release and seat one or more spring-loaded patient needles into the skin surface, and establish a fluid communication path between the patient needles and the pressurized fluid reservoir contents thereby delivering an infusion into the skin.

The self-administration device for liquid drugs includes a casing 1; a port portion 2; a reservoir 3 having an open end which is closed by the port portion 2 and is capable of being restored to its original shape; and pushing means 4 for pushing the reservoir 3, wherein the reservoir 3 is pressed by the pushing means 4 to inject the liquid drug. The pushing means 4 includes a cylindrical member inserted slidably into the inner wall of the casing 1, and a spring member housed in the cylindrical member. The cylindrical member and the port position 2 are respectively provided with a male hook 425 and a female hook 25, for acting as detachable mutual engagement means.

A cap is removably mounted to the disposable assembly. Locking members on the cap and disposable assembly prevent removal of the cap until the disposable assembly is moved to the firing position within the drive assembly.

    Abstract: An injection device is adapted to eject a sequence of doses from the needle of a capsule carried within its barrel-like body. A plunger extending rearwardly from the capsule has ratchet teeth along its length engaged by pawls at the forward end of a drive tube biased forwardly by a spring. The capsule is in a sleeve-like carrier having limited longitudinal travel, a lost motion connection to the drive tube and an engagement with the ratchet teeth by pawls. The drive tube can be releasibly retained in a rearward position by a trigger mechanism. When released, the drive tube urges the plunger, capsule and carrier forwards to project the needle. The liquid acts effectively as a solid. With the carrier stopped, the plunger carries on to eject a dose, clicking past the carrier pawls. The re-prime, the knob is pulled to retract the drive tube and the carrier, the lost motion connection allowing the drive tube to move further and have its pawls click back along the plunger until the trigger mechanism re-engages.
