  • Patent number: 9928214
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for quickly and approximately solving structured regression problems. In one aspect, the system, method and computer program product are applied to problems that arise naturally in various statistical modeling settings—when the design matrix is a Vandermonde matrix or a sequence of such matrices. Using the Vandermonde matrix structure further accelerates the solution of the regression problem, achieving running times that are faster than “input sparsity”. The modeling framework speedup benefits of randomized regression for solving structured regression problems.

  • Patent number: 9207975
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing distributed execution of programs. In some situations, the techniques include determining configuration information to be used for executing a particular program in a distributed manner on multiple computing nodes and/or include providing information and associated controls to a user regarding ongoing distributed execution of one or more programs to enable the user to modify the ongoing distributed execution in various manners. Determined configuration information may include, for example, configuration parameters such as a quantity of computing nodes and/or other measures of computing resources to be used for the executing, and may be determined in various manners, including by interactively gathering values for at least some types of configuration information from an associated user (e.g., via a GUI that is displayed to the user) and/or by automatically determining values for at least some types of configuration information (e.g., for use as recommendations to a user).

  • Patent number: 9111366
Abstract: Statistical analysis techniques based on auto- and cross-correlations/cumulants, of image stacks of fluctuating objects are used to improve resolution beyond the classical diffraction limit and to reduce the background. The time trajectory of every pixel in the image frame is correlated with itself and/or with the time trajectory of an adjacent pixel. The amplitude of these auto- or cross-correlations/cumulants of each pixel, at a given time lag or averaged or integrated over an interval of time lags, is used as the intensity value of that pixel in the generated superresolved optical fluctuation image.

  • Patent number: 9026394
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to the automated testing of a system that includes software or hardware components. In some embodiments, a testing framework generates a set of test cases for a system under test using a grammar. Each test case may perform an action, such as provide an input to the system under test, and result in an output from the system under test. The inputs and outputs are then compared to the expected results to determine whether the system under test is performing correctly. The data can then be interpreted in the grammar system or used as input to a fault isolation engine to determine anomalies in the system under test. Based on identified faults, one or more mitigation techniques may be implemented in an automated fashion.

  • Patent number: 9026395
Abstract: A specific gravity measuring tool comprises a portable handheld housing supporting a plurality of electrodes at a fixed known spacing thereon and a display for displaying a determined specific gravity thereon. The electrodes are arranged to be penetrated into the object to be measured, for example a potato. The electrodes include a first pair across which an electrical potential is arranged to be generated, and a second pair across which an electrical potential is arranged to be sensed. A processor of the tool is arranged to calculate electrical impedance using the electrical potential generated across said first pair of the electrodes, the electrical potential sensed at said second pair of electrodes, and the known spacing between the electrodes so that the specific gravity can be determined using a predetermined relationship between electrical impedance and specific gravity.
